Either way, they just want to see the bank letter to know the money has come in from overseas - the letter from the bank should state the amount in baht.

After countless acts of torture, horrific punishments such as having limbs cut off, not to mention the public beheadings and stoning - i'd say what's happening in the middle east 'crossed the line' long ago.

Pattaya would be the logical place, and a number of investors are speculating on that possibility. But the ones who actually have the power to make that kind of decision have considerable land holding elsewhere, ie Hua Hin and surrounds. So, if they do ever decide to build a casino (and that won't happen until other major events unfold) there is every likelihood it won't be in Pattaya - even if it should be.

Thai rent-a-car have an office on Petchaburi Rd (near where Ekamai intersects) and will deliver to lower Sukhumvit for a small fee. They're reliable but not super cheap, but usually cheaper than the multinationals.

I'm all for paying to get into national parks, especially if it improves the park and the experience. But this example raises just B20,000 a year (assuming 100 foreigners still visit this park). That'll hardly cover the reprinting of signage. Lifting the local price by as little as 5 baht would have been infinitely more productive.

Thanks for the vid, interesting insight.

Great park, you can cut all the way through from the tobacco monopoly from the bottom of soi 4. Don't forget to walk/run/ride clockwise if you want to keep the local circumambulators (is that word?) happy.

Went to the Alps a few years back with some mates and the biggest mistake was not bringing a snow bunny along. The nightlife was pretty much non existant, that was in Chamonix, not sure about elsewhere.

Do it, she'll pick it up. You'll have her up the top of Les Grande Montets by the end of the week.

There's a difference maintaining an existence and living. But faced with a choice between walks on the beach versus getting beaten up by housos in Dandenong, i'd take the walks on the beach.

Far and few between. Try the Thai Christian School in Ekamai.

Thanks for the reply
From the reading I have done Type O is only if you are over 50 & a working / travel visa is if you are between 18 & 30
We are planning to get dual passport for our child but on this trip our Child will be on an Aussie Passport to play it safe
There are different type O visas. One of them is retirement, another type is to visit family (you don't have to be over 50). On your link to the embassy they refer to it as a 'spouse visa'. As long as your wife has a copy of her house registration, you'll be technically visiting her at that address - even if she's living with you in Australia.
Playing it safe would be having both passports for your child. You should enter/leave Australia on the Aussie, and enter/leave Thailand on the Thai passport. If that makes sense. Your child can apply for a non-o visa if you don't want to get him/her the Thai passport.

I supported the return of knighthoods as it seemed right for this honour/title to be bestowed on Australians by an Australian leader, rather than at the discretion of the Queen of England. But this makes a joke of that whole concept. Poor, poor judgement.

For a little bit of extra money, i'd go for the 12 month multiple entry non-o spouse visa. That will give you your first 3 months without needing to leave the country, then another 9-12 months (with 90 day runs) should you decide to stay longer. You don't need to show your bank account balance etc when applying for that visa in Australia.
An employer can help you apply for a work permit on the non o marriage visa/extension once you're in Thailand, but not on a tourist visa.
For your child, i'd just apply for a Thai passport in Australia once they are born, rather than getting a visa. Wife does not need a visa.

An example of these are on Sukhumvit Rd heading east through T intersections that merge with even numbered sois (eg Soi 26). The far left lane may proceed on a red light with caution, but the rule is you must still give way. So yo may proceed, but if there is an accident, you are at fault.

I think Karon is on the money, or possibly Kamala. Both have quiet beaches, affordable accommodation and enough bars to keep you interested. Kata is nice, but a bit quiet at night and the hills can be a bit tough to negotiate with an 18 month old.

Big one for me is the quest everything to be 'sanook'. That and the 7/11 baloney with chili suspended in it.

In the back of beyond, at some unspecified date in the future.
Might as well be closed for good, as far as I'm concerned.
A hop skip and a jump for me....great to see a proper pub out my way!
Half your luck, it used to be in the basement of my work building (UBC II Tower). Doubt i'll be ducking to Phattanakan road in my lunch hour every again. But seriously, the same kind of food can be had in any number of places in that area.

You know you've been in Thailand for a while when you start referring to 7/11 simply as 'seven'. Tragedy about the toasties, is that country-wide? My local seems to have gotten rid of the fresh-made versions altogether and now only sells the pre-made croissant-style version from the fridge.

Feel sorry for the guy who opened these one at a time trying to find one small enough to fit.

Shame. Sitting in an HDB void deck on a 30 degree night and sharing a few cold ones with the uncles was a real Singapore pleasure.

Most avocados you get in supermarkets in Thailand are grown on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and are imported by Choice Foods. There's some education to be done with local retailers as they stick them on the shelf too early, when they are still hard like hand grenades. If you want to ripen them up, put them in a paper bag with a banana. They taste great with a bit of salt and balsamic vinegar.

Beach Holiday Advice: Help!

There's some lovely beaches in Chumpon for a relaxing stay, my fave I can't remember the Thai name but it translates as 'taking the cow for a walk' beach. White sand, clean and quiet.
