What we are witnessing is the death rattle of the conservatives that have ruled Thailand for the past 200 years.
The old families with close ties to the ancient power structure, with enormous wealth, with close family ties to the military who walk on the heads of ordinary Thais.
Who treat farmers and workers as mere chattels, who have raped the natural resources of the nation, who own just about everything.
They are responsible for the yellow shirts.
They know that if the workers and farmers become organised and elect their own leaders, instead of accepting these Democrat puppets, they lose everything.
They will use every dirty trick in the book including patriotism (the last refuge of the scoundrel) to cling on to power and keep the people ignorant.
That is why they have brought on the last coup, to get rid of the Thaksin and to install a puppet (Abhisit).
However, you can't put the genie back in the bottle, and the people have elected Yingluck.
No matter what anyone says about her brother, she was elected in an overwhelming victory and she is the leader.
Suthep is just a lackey for the old clique and he uses the Yellow shirts and patriotism as his weapons to try and force out a democratically elected government.
Can you imagine what would happen if someone tried the same tactics in the UK?
He would be arrested and locked away.
And so it will pass here too, the old clique trying hard to hang on, but they are on a losing game, the people have had enough of the old ways.
They want change and they want to have a say.
The issue of amnesty for Thaksin is a red herring, any excuse will do to keep the pot boiling, to get back into power.
If Thaksin died tomorrow there would be another excuse to try to force out Peu Thai.
They just don't want to live in a democracy where the law would apply to them equally.
Finally somebody with a brain making a comment.
This is exactly it - but so many farang sheep follow the local sheep in falling for Suthep and his gang.
Suthep:
"we want real democracy"
" I won't run for PM"
"Here is the plan: we appoint a peoples council - by the way - I have already chosen them so you don't have to worry your little heads and I will be their secretary general to make sure they behave"
What a farce. And so many idiots falling for it.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the red and yellow shirt common people had the lightbulb go on and they together realize "Hey, we are getting screwed by those in power regardless of party". And then throw the lot of the parasites out. On my Christmas wish list.
Geez Emdog.
Finally a comment I can agree with wholeheartedly. And this does not only apply to Thailand.
I have suggested more decisive actions. Perhaps throw the whole damned lot in jail and then start afresh.
All politicians from now on get a salary of 1 million dollars per annum
BUT - BREAK ONE ELECTION PROMISE OR STEAL ONE SATANG
and it is life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Then let's see who is keen to go into politics.

I am an animal lover and your info is good info, however.... taking your dog to the vets to have a broken toenail cut? Why not just do it yourself?
There is a show on Discovery called Pampered Pooches, have you been on it by any chance?
It was more than just broken it was bleeding and went back into the toe itself. So no - not all that pampered.
God people just love jumping to conclusions.

Blew the whistle every time I clicked, so possible 1 person could add many whistles - difficult to say for sure without checking the code.
So the counter might not be exactly accurate.

Vets' services and charges vary widely - be warned!
I have 4 cats and 3 dogs and have take them for many years to a vet in South Pattaya on Sukhumvit road just past Tesco Lotus.
Initially they were very good, but then I realised prices were going up wildly.
I had a bitch spayed for THB1,200 about 2 years ago and then about a year later I wanted the same done for another smaller dog. Suddenly the price was THB 4,500! When I questioned this they said that the previous price was a special.
This was a warning and I started watching all prices.
One of my beagles contracted mange as a puppy and the weekly shampoo and injection cost THB4,600. Crazy - as they said it could take 3-6 months to cures. That adds up to THB 18,400/month - thus easily THB 100,000 for the cure.
After the second injection, a new vet opened up near my house in Nongprue - just off Siam Country Club road (where the new vet is). I went to them and asked for a price. THB 600 for the same injection and special shampoo. !!!!!!!!!!!
Best is, I have been back for other issues with the pets and the prices are all much lower and the people much friendlier.
Three times, I went back with the dog having a broken toe nail or something small. The vet cut the nail and on all 3 occasions as there was no medication or follow up required the charge was a massive THB 00000.00. Yes - that's right - IT WAS FREE!
For anyone looking for a good vet this is their name. They have two offices in Siam Country Club road - the main one close to Sukhumvit and the other about 4km towards Mapbrachan. Their website is - http://www.siamcount...tryenglish.html
I highly recommend them.

Many - but I am not your assistant - easy comment for a lazy uninformed person. Does not mean it is true. Not wasting any more time trying to educate you. Cheers
Not my job to do your research if you are uninformed
Insults aside...Please engage brain before putting mouth into gear
By all means, provide a citation showing were PTP has vowed to remove the LM laws or done anything at all to that end.
So no facts to support your comments then?
(insults =/= facts by the way)

Actually NO. The PTP are trying to remove the LM laws. Next time get your facts straight.
Justice PTP style.Soooooo absurd.
Was the statement deemed illegal when he said it?
Actually, no, PTP has done SFA regarding the LM laws, let alone trying to remove them.

Actually that is the current situation. The elite keep passing their seats down to their relatives and friends. Definitely not democraticThe House-Senate meeting on Saturday approved the charter-amendment bill, which will change the Senate to an all-elected chamber and remove appointed senators.
This is amazing! A step in the right direction in my opinion. People who make laws should represent the people. Congratulations Thailand! (if it gets approved)
Yes it would be another step to help get wives, relatives & cronies of those in power to be elected & thus reduce the independence of the senate.

If the readers of this thread learn only one thing from it - it should be to be very very careful what one says or writes publicly - particularly whilst this present government is in power! Take it as a warning and keep your own head low!
If you were better informed you would be aware that the current government is trying to remove the lesse majeste laws

Does anyone know of a gay doctor in Pattaya, or at least one that is gay friendly?
Sometimes it is just easier to discuss certain issues with someone who understands them.
I generally go to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and although I have always had excellent treatment, I would be more comfortable with a gay doctor.
Thanks for any assistance.

So what's new. Every government here ever in power has been the same. Of course each time there is a change the losers bitch about the new guys because they know what they did and now they are losing out.
The hypocrisy is as bad as the corruption.
Don't know how they will ever stop it here as it is seen as acceptable practice by too many folks.
Need to educate people - but which pig at the trough is ever going to do that?

Why don't they just do what the yellow shirts did last time. Overthrow their own government using the military - re-write the constitution with all the changes they want. Pass the same law as last time saying you cannot criticise the new constitution and then have an election which they will again win.
I am sick and tired of the elitist supporters criticising the elected government when they try and do something legally as opposed to using military might.
You all talk democracy - but don't see the double standard.

As for judicial intervention, he said that if the high court ruled in favour of the Democrats, then the public could question the judiciary's neutrality,
So is that a threat then?
PT policy on anyone who disagrees with them is always the same violence and/or intimidation. Do as we say or we call out the storm troopers.
Better to call in the public who voted you in than the army to get rid of the people's choice I would say

I have a Thai company registered in Bangkok with a branch office in Pattaya. As we are no longer have any employees in Bangkok, I am considering changing my business service provider to someone in Pattaya. Can anyone recommend a local company that can handle all accounting and visa services?

Interesting how you can call it "tyranny of the majority" is this worse than "tyranny of the minority" - where the hell has the idea of democracy gone.
And "cling to power". If you won a democratic election you don't need to "cling to power". You have been given the power by the electorate.
Boggles the mind. Democracy under the terms of the minority seems to be the idea here.

Incredible how everyone carries on about the current government tries to change the constitution democratically when the Military junta did what they did. It was against the law to even criticise the draft.
See wikipedia
At least they legitamised the changes through a public referendum. "Incredible how everyone carries on about the current government tries to change the constitution democratically when the Military junta did what they did", not so incredible when you consider that its current news and the Junta is past history.
You obviously only read the bits you like. The junta passed a law against criticising it. They also passed a law against promoting either supporting yes or no and then went out and did exactly that. So understand what you are reading before shooting your mouth off. You are just like the elite here. Have no clue!
They also said if it was not approved they would not allow democratic elections. Hows that for intimidation.

Restrictions against campaigning to reject the draftThe junta passed a law that made criticism of the draft and opposition to the constitutional referendum a criminal act. Political parties were not allowed to persuade voters to cast ballots in favour or not in favour of the constitution. Any violators could be banned from politics for 5 years and jailed for 10 years.[2]
The restrictions against opposition to the draft were criticized by human rights bodies. “Even if amended to allow for ‘factual’ campaigning on the referendum, it is clear that the main purpose of the law is to intimidate and silence persons who don’t share the official view,” the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) said. “Meanwhile the administration is pumping vast amounts of money into Yes propaganda that is set to increase quickly.”[51]
The ban against campaigning against the constitution was enforced. In July, 20 soldiers and 10 policemen raided the house of a politician and seized anti-charter t-shirts, banners, documents, and recorded speeches.[52] Police also raided the Duang Prateep Foundation of former Senator Prateep Ungsongtham Hata and confiscated 4,000 posters which carried the message “It’s not illegal to vote against the draft constitution.” No charges were filed. The police claimed they were acting on orders from the military. “They could not cite any law to back up their actions,” said Sombat Boon-ngam-anong. Prateep filed a complaint with the police, claiming that they had committed an “unlawful” act, citing her human rights under the abrogated 1997 constitution.
The junta also claimed to the public that general democratic elections would only occur if the draft were approved. Defense Minister Boonrawd Somtas told reporters that an election “can take place only if the new constitution passes the referendum,” implying that a a "No" would result in indefinite military rule.[51]
Taxi-drivers were banned from putting anti-draft bumper stickers on their vehicles.[45]
Interior minister Aree Wong-Arya has warned those campaigning against the draft by distributing leaflets to voters that they will be severely punished if there is proof against them.[53]
On 11 August in Kamphaeng Phet province, military officers raided a shop printing leaflets that attacked the draft. Eight boxes of leaflets and the printing press were seized for investigation. The raid was conducted under a government Emergency Decree.[54]
At the time of the referendum, martial law was in place in 35 provinces, intimidating those who wished to campaign against the draft.[45]

The Constitution-The highest law-Bend it,twist it,tear it up.The pigs could use it to soak their gravy while feasting at Napoleons table. Some are more equal.....
I think it should be torn up as it was drawn up by a military gang who overturned the government illegally. What was democratic about that?

The only difference in corruption between Thailand and the west is that the small guy gets to join in the game here whereas in the west it is only the guys at the top that get away with it. Because the small guy is also involved here it is also more visible.
Corruption exists all over the world.
We never had to include a 15% rake-off in any of our tenders in the UK.
SC
Corruption and theft do not always take the same form. People in other countries are smarter. Look at SIngapore where they legalized their corruption. For many years, Sematech - the holding company for Singtel and numerous other gov/semi-gov enterprises was never audited. Even the Auditor General had no access to their books. How's that for hiding any shenanigans. Nobody could see where the billions in profits went.
