  1. 31 bombs hit troubled south, one dead

ONE person died and 22 others were wounded in a wave of at least 31 bomb attacks by Islamic militants on police and government offices in Thailand's insurgency-hit south.

The string of blasts within about 30 minutes of each other rocked the mainly Muslim provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat near the Malaysian border, with five military and one police officer among the injured, police said today.

"Militants are likely to have coordinated the attacks and planned them in advance because the bombs went off between 07.45am and 8.15am," said Colonel Sommai Phutthakun, deputy police commander in Narathiwat.

"They wanted to show their power," he said.

The attacks, using mostly remote-controlled explosives, followed a week of relative calm when predominantly Buddhist Thailand celebrated King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 60-yea

In Pattani, nine blasts killed one official at a tea shop near a Khko Pho district police post and wounded 15 more people, two seriously, police said.

In Narathiwat, 16 bomb attacks hit the Muang, Ruso, Ra Ngae and Takbai districts, wounding five marine troops.

In Yala, six attacks wounded at least two people.

The first blast hit a Yala provincial police office at 8.00am, wounding one traffic police officer, and another hit the provincial hall.

A third bomb went off at a tea shop near Yaha district police station in Yala, wounding the owner of the shop, and a fourth device exploded at a police station in Bannang Sata district.

A fifth blast in Yala hit a border patrol pick-up truck outside a police officer's apartment in Muang Yala district, destroying the unoccupied car.

On Tuesday two Buddhists, a female local government official and a shop owner, were killed in separate shootings in Pattani, police said.

More than 1300 people have been killed since an insurgency broke out in January 2004 in the mainly Islamic and ethnic Malay south, a region also troubled by organised crime and police corruption.

My only Question is what date will the muslim population of southern thailand be thrown out of the country and put back im mallasia where they belong.nobody likes muslims anywhere in the world they can`t even get allong with other muslims let allone the rest of the world boot them out thaksin then boot yourself out as well

  2. I am sick of the farangs whose hatred of Thaksin stems from nothing more than them having to pay a few more satang for their visas :D:D:o

Thats because your a brain dead idiot that can`t see thaksin is only bringing down thailand. If he gets his way there will be no more tourists staying in thailand spending millions.his wife owns the land for the new airport.everything he does is not for the thai comunity its to pad his pockets with as much cash as he can before he is eventually thrown out of office.he has done nothing to help anybody but himself.the southern part of thailand would not be in the trouble that has been happening if it wasn`t for this moron running thailand.the good people of thailand deserve much better. :D

  3. Here in the U.S., the media focus so overwhelmingly on the negative that people outside of an area are left with exaggerated images of the dangers present in that area.

I note that because I am wondering if the same is true there in Pattaya. As I monitor the info posted here at TV, I see a parade of items about assaults such as this one. I can't help but wonder about the threat level perceived by those of you who live there.

Is it, in fact, unsafe to walk the streets of Pattaya alone, at night, these days? Or are incidents like this extremely rare, and not something that should deter a man from such activities. (It is, of course, never adviseable, in any country or location, for a woman to do so.)

Your experiences and frank opinions are welcomed.

anyone who lives here aint gonna be down soi six at 11.30pm if they are they deserve all they get.?67 he could be 17 and be mugged in soi sex at 11.30 at night.pattaya or any other resort area in thailand is still safer than any other place ive ever been on holiday.down town in any american city is a no go area as well as many european citys.probably more people mugged in disney world in a month than pattaya in a year.can anyone remember the last tourist to be shot for a wallet [on the street]?in pattaya.the place is safe as houses even for you yanks but to be on the safe side pretend your from canada!.

I would walk down any street in pattaya any time of day or night.Im 44 american guy.Ive been down most streets allong beach road and i will never have a problem.I think somebody was drunk flashing some cash braging.soi 6 is as safe of street as any and 11:30 the night has just begun.ive walked back from soi 8 to soi 3 so many times so drunk its pathetic and never had a problems at all hours of the night or should i say morning.

  4. Seems no end to this.  Rain OK, but this is just OTT.  My wife is still trying to get her car dried out after being caught in flooding in Hang Dong area.  This is even after she moved it when a neighbor said the water levels were rising.

Well well, and some people still claim there is no such thing as global warming. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

:o I guess signing the Keeyoto treaty would have helped prevent all bad weather by taxing them bad Americans while allowing the competing countries a chance to catch up with those Capitalist.

This Guy is a joke and has no idea what he is talking about.unlike the small countrys of the world that have no laws in place about how much polution their factorys can expell into the air.We Americans have had in place laws against this for years. This Keeoto treaty is something for smaller countrys which have nothing in place right now. This was a treaty to set a giude lines for them to obey and cut down their polution levels.like I siad this guy is a fool

Not as much of one as the Muppet in the miniature St Paul's Cathedral that some refer to as the First Home - At least the poster above recognises that global warming IS happening and that something needs done about pollution.

Plus survey after survey, and report after report, have stated that the USA is the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases and other atmospheric pollutants ..... despite all the regulation and control you talk about.

once again another non no it all.surveys means nothing.so you take a survey what people (think) not fact. And once again spoken by somebody thats not from the usa and has no idea what we are doing here and the laws that are in place.and Again blame the worlds problems on the usa you are good at laying that on our lap.all the worlds problems are caused by us hahahahhaha and then you woke up and the dream was over

  6. I am interested to know how you met your Thai wife (or husband)

The most common way (from a poll I held in London) was in a bar. The second was agency, the third internet.

I met my husband on the internet, just started emailing each other and etc. When he came to Bkk we arranged to meet up and....the rest is history.

    how about you!! :o

i MET MY WIFE ON WWW.BANGKOKCHAT.ORG we feel in love on line then met in bkk then got married in phichit and we have a son now nice story for us :D

  7. I really fail to understand what sort of impact this law will have on the troubled south...after all, the police hardly have a reputation for respecting peoples rights down there as it is.

If the PM in all his wisdom has not been able to come to any agreements in the last 4 years, how is this "breach on civil rights" going to change anything.

Is this the PM's power grab? I recall last time the government declaired a state of emergancy, students were being shot in the streets.

I feel sorry for Thailand, that they vote (get paid) blindly, and then are forced to put up with a corrupt PM as a result.

I wonder why thailand doesn`t send all the muslim population back to malasia where they belong. They can`t get allong with any race of people not even there own race so why should we put up with them

  8. Well it has been heading north for so time already. Only the blind could not see that. However I would have thought that the PM would have learned from history and defused the situation during last year already.

See how they cope with their independence and how long it is before they come calling for help.

Sure with shoddy education down South for generations, that should work.  :D

How can you call Bush a failure, since 9/11 how many terrorist attacks has the western world suffered.

Not many, but you lost most of your rights after the attack. Osama must be laughing his ass off in some cave.  :D

You may not like the guy but he is successfull and maybe he thinks he can win...

Successfull at what? Successfull and MAYBE thinks he can win. Where is the success in MAYBE you can win?

I think george Bush has done a good job after all look at how this mess started anyway the world trade center was attacked thats what started it all so i think the world has been allot safer place since allot of the alkida freaks have been killed.and osama binladen can laugh all he wants hideing in caves i think we have that laugh not him some life hes liveing hahahahahaah rich but to scared to show his face anywhere for fear somebody will collect the bounty on his head dead or alive.some of these jerks here saying bush is a failure doesn`t know what they are talking about thats for sure.as far as the southern provinces of thailand is concerned why doesn`t thailand reclame the land from these ungratefull muslims liveing there.make them leave the country and there will be no problems after they are gone.muslims can`t even get allong with there own kind let allone the rest of the world. :o

  9. Tsunami Victims Ready to Sue US and Thailand

Victims of the earthquake and tsunami that destroyed much of the South Asian coastline last December are reportedly preparing a lawsuit in New York against the US Bureau of Meteorology and the Thai government for failing to warn them about the earthquake.

Lawyers for 15 Austrian and four German tsunami victims announced in the Austrian capital Vienna yesterday (February 15) that the case is not primarily concerned with compensation, but aims to reveal the negligence of those sued over the issue. The lawyers asserted that the Washington-based US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii did not warn the countries on the Indian Ocean in time despite records of the earthquake.

The case alleges that the NOAA and Thailand authorities recorded the epicenter and size of the earthquake within 15 minutes, but they did not inform the countries which border on the Indian Ocean.

    --Anadolu News Agency 2005-02-16

Ok since When is it the united state problem on warning anybody of a tsunami we only have to warn our country of anything since it is our taxes that pay for this system not any other countrys if you want this to work for you then pay your fair share. This pathetic lawsuit will be thrown out of court so fast its not funny.once again this is to warn the united states of any problems not the world.I know bush sure seems to think we are the world police wich i think is a joke we have our own problems as it is.i sure wish the other countrys would pull there fair share for once.We always have been a country others look up for help with anything.and all we get in return is looked down on and criticised for trying to make this world a peacefull place to live for everybody.its not our fault the muslims can`t even get allong with there own kind let allone the world.

  10. I hope everybody votes thaksin out of office he has done a very bad job of running the country.hes only in it for feeding his pockets nothing else.another 4 years of him will ruin the thai aconomy as less tourist will come with money because of the early bar closeings. :o Its time for him to leave if he get ellected again I feel sorry for thais still liveing there. As you will get even poorer from the lack of tourist dollar.
