i'm not sure who to believe. either the chinesers are shopping in richy-rich businesses laundering their loot, or spending absolutely nothing on zero baht tours other than mama noodles at 7-11. but then we're told they're coming to buy up all the condos and businesses. it's so confusing.
A very small percentage of the Chinese tourists are buying expensive condos as a bolt hole in case things go tits up in China or possibly to launder their money.

So are they Thai or Chinese? China doesn't allow dual Nationality.
Many Thai people are descendants of Chinese families they don't have dual nationality. In ancient times many Chinese merchants set up shop in Thailand and married into rich Thai families to get status. The Thaksins are one such family.

As usual TAT is talking through its own hat. Mostly Chinese tourists who come to Thailand come on Zero Dollar tours having paid for their whole trip in China before departure. Who knows how much of this money actually flows into Thailand. Secondly China is actively discouraging their people not to travel overseas but to travel domestically. The likelihood of even thousands of Chinese tourists arriving per month is highly unlikely. The 10m + figures of the past are probably gone for many years to come. Dream on TAT.

I haven't ever seen what "effectiveness" means in these studies? Are that all using the same standard definition....for example does 90% effective mean that if people 10 people out of 100 taking placebo would catch COVID vs only 1 taking the vaccine or does it mean that if 100 people take the vaccine only 10 will catch the disease which is of course not very impressive? Are the studies done in a lab or in a real life situation?
These are the statistics released by the first company Pfizer that has trialled the vaccine. Frankly it can only be a broad estimate as it hasn't been properly tested yet.

The vaccines are in development stage and seem to be 90%, at best, effective. The adverse risk scared Government of Thailand is unlikely to open its doors to tourists quickly even after the vaccine is released. Most of Thailand's population would have to be vaccinated before that could be considered safe.

How can you possibly think, given all the regulations in place that in effect prevent tourism, th
Domestic political concerns, certainly a driving factor. Tourism - no.
You are probably correct that domestic concerns figure high in the Government's concerns. I am amazed that the bulk of Thai people are taking covid19 seriously but still they don't wear crash helmets. Nearly as many people die on the road every day as have died from covid19 over the last 8 months!

You might have missed it, but the idea of quarantine is to stop the Thai population being infected with covid. 10,000 worldwide deaths yesterday and again zero in Thailand. Hasn’t been a covid death here for more than six months.
Cant get more effective than that.A total of 60 covid deaths since the beginning of all this.
USA, UK, France, Italy, Belgium etc had more than that before breakfast today. I don’t want them coming here until they sort themselves out.
Yes those are the published figures but it's strange that the only extra people found with covid19 are people who have come out of quarantine or who have returned home from Thailand. Thailand has done a great job in keeping covid19 under control but the figures are not completely accurate.

Trip Advisor was not a party to the settlement so it didn't break any agreement. Wesley Barnes was asked to persuade Trip Advisor not to make any negative comments. Trip Advisor has a duty of care to its customers to warn them that this particular hotel tried to jail one of its customers for writing a vindictive review. The hotel shot itself in the foot.

The only table that the Thai Government wants to be near the bottom of is the one of statistics showing the number of covid19 cases. They believe that the lower the number of cases the better it will be for the tourism industry. This has proved so successful that a massive 156 international tourists arrived in Thailand in October under the STV scheme. Now with the requirement that foreigners have to show that their home bank accounts have held a minimum balance of the equivalent of 500,000 baht for the last 6 months the numbers qualifying for the STV will drop substantially.

Everyday for months now it seems they are finding cases and effectively stopping it spreading throughout the country because of the procedures they are enforcing.
So far so good. I hope nobody slips up. So many will lose so much if it gets out again. Many are just hanging on as it is, another outbreak will be their death knell and if it does it will also probably be the end of STV visa.Yes a fantastic job 156 people were allowed in in the month of October! Only 556 people are currently in a list of future applicants. The STV programme is a truly successful programme in keeping tourism at bay.

As said 80+% of Thais don't give a fig about international tourism.
The top 11% makes a huge difference especially as the number of people employed in the service is huge and they are now all unemployed. In Pattaya half the restaurants are closed and I have been told that in Phuket the figure is around 70%.
ATTA urges govt to consider Chinese tourists or risk 2 million people being left jobless

Get rid of the crazy red tape to come to Thailand and then tourists will come back. A covid19 test and covid19 insurance should be enough. Expensive enforced imprisonment in a hotel room for a week followed by being limited to the hotel grounds for a further week is plainly not an enticement to visit Thailand.
