  1. I don't go into what is decent. But I believe the error in manufacturing could be intentional so Givi could sell their products at a lower price in some countries and the error stops them from reaching countries where Givi.can charge a higher price. There may also be shops around here where the "foreign standard" is sold. They will not fit plates bought here. The official Givi retailer for Thailand advertises on Lazada, as I remember. It's all a mess.
  2. I believe this could be some "region coding". I bought a very good Samsung cell in Buriram some years ago. It worked in Asia, Africa but never in Europe. The worst hacking tricks including flashing new ROM didn't help. It was a cheap but good model only intended for some countries in Asia and Africa. This problem with the Givi boxes could be the same. Chinese plates and boxes have their own standard. Therefore cheap Chinese boxes can not leak to Europe or US. (Not cheap when they reach Lazada, though.) It must be intentional. A counterfeiter couldn't make a perfect box but fail with the lock. The Asian standard is a region code.
  3. Yepp. You are probably right.
  4. I think you are right. But I want to switch boxes between my bikes so I will import from now on. The large Maxia 4 was 30.000 Baht in Shopee/Lazada but only about 13.000 to import + tariff + VAT about 2000 from Italy. (And transportation) Glad I imported. I started a thread about it. But now I found a small box @ B 2500. Have to send that one back too.
  5. I lived in China many years so I am used to evaluating "degree of fake". But all looks real good here. Except the lock doesn't fit. Idiot copier lose money and draw attention. But I dont think Givi cares.
  6. Last year I bought a Givi Monokey rack and plate for my bike. Also bought a box. All imported from Motostorm, Italy. All fit perfectly. Recently I bought another Monokey box from Shopee/Lazada. It didnt fit. The Kawasaki mechanic couldn't make it fit either. It all looked like a genuine Givi Monokey box but as I measured the latch of the box was positioned 3 mm too deep to be able to reach the hole in the protrusion on the plate. I sent back and got money back. Now I ordered another box from Shopee/Lazada (i forgot which, the hotel does it for me). It has exactly the same problem. I can't press it onto my Monokey plate. This is another model of box and, I believe, another seller. All arrives in what appears to be original packing. Inbetween I have often used my old Monokey box that I imported from Italy without problems. It has always slipped in place easily and holds on well. So it seems the Givi boxes I get from Shopee/Lazada don't fit. Next week I get another box and Monokey plate from Motostorm, Italy. They say no changes have been made and the box should fit my old plate and my old box will also fit the new plate. ... They say. I will try to update this thread when that stuff arrive.
  7. Burapa Bike "Week" Feb 13-15 2025, Pattaya https://www.pattayabikeweek.com/ I think much activity takes place around Indoor Stadium in Chayapreuk, Pattaya. Does anyone know more about the program, schedule ... ?

  8. Banks are scammers but this looks like Kasikorn all right to me.
  9. I got three forms via email from Kasikorn and they ask for reply via email. I can't fill and sign via email. I am European and it looks like I maybe can fill out only the "FATCA" form. I guess I will best print it out, fill out and return it at a K office? Or maybe take a picture of it and email it back?
  10. After owning a scooter for a year I went to DLT with the "insurance document" and the green book. I paid a moderate sum and got a new tax sticker to keep on the bike. Did I then also pay the PRB for next year? Since I got a sticker for next year I should be OK? PRB is mandatory, isn't it. A Thai person told me I didn't need to go to DLT. If I just go to a licensed operator ตรอ/inspection station, like opposite 7Eleven ship on S Pattaya road, they will set all up for me. But needs for me to go back and pick up after a few days. But will that cost more? If I need to buy PRB, where should I buy it? I also have a motorcycle and may buy one more. They are delivered with one year first class insurance with a company called Lockton. I guess I will just call Lockton when time to renew arrives. I could compare offer to what the ตรอ can give. And If I go with first class insurance, PRB is included? Any suggestions appreciated. Any good insurance companies?
  11. I moved registration to Chonburi. That was smooth. But three visits needed 1. Application: Green book, cert. of residency, passport, visa; pay B. 25 2. inspection, bikes are allowed to jump the queue for gate 4, I believe the frame ID number was most important 3. exchange Bangkok plate for Chonburi plate They also issued a new tax receipt, the old one that fell off with the original plate was not required 80 km to Chonburi DLT from Pattaya, more comfortable in a day compared to Bangkok. If I ever buy bike in another province again, the first thing I'll do will be to move registration here.
  12. If it is correct like I read somewhere, that he got sucked out 10 m from the shore, swimming should definitely be banned.
  13. Then the flags are useless. If there are red flags all the time, then the beach should be closed
  14. Two rides to DLT in Bangkok got me a new plate. B 105. There is only one type of plate but the frame should be metal and the Kawi guys put an extra bolt in it. I never got a new tax receipt. A couple of days ago a friendly police officer at a checkpoint asked me to make a copy of the tax receipt to carry along. At DLT Pattaya they said no problem with Bangkok registration. Just bring green book. When I came back with green book they filled out everything. But when all was ready for the queue to process, another DLT officer said it was not possible. I had to go to Bangkok or pay B 1500 to DLT Pattaya to do this for me. So I went to police and they said they would accept my photo of plate and tax receipt if I laminated it. So I laminated it and will pay next year's tax as soon as possible. Police said DLT Pattaya should do this with Bangkok plate. But they didn't. So my impression is DLT Pattaya should issue a copy of a lost tax receipt for a Bangkok registration. But in my case they tried to take me for B 1500. Is that correct?
  15. Weed shops close on April 1. 🤣🤣🤣 At 4:20 PM according to my intelligence 😂😂😂 They must have set that date intentionally. "It's cool stoners. We're just joking. Come and enjoy!"
  16. Gov't is on the matter Thailand’s Prime Minister SretthaThavisin has called on his citizens to show their kindness to foreign tourists with an aim to help fuel the country’s tourism. https://e.vnexpress.net/news/travel/thai-citizens-urged-to-show-kindness-to-foreign-tourists-4718778.html
  17. Kawasaki Bangkok could not fix this, I will have to go to Bangkok DLT myself. Kawasaki originally sent me a plastic plate which I asked a bike shop to put on. This may be ok for a scooter. But it was apparently not good enough for a motorcycle. Vibrations and wind wore it down. So at DLT I will ask if it is possible to get a metal plate like I have seen on some bikes. If I just get another plastic plate, I must find a better way to affix it. Any advice on this appreciated. Otherwise Kawasaki has been good to deal with. But this will take a little time to fix.
  18. In every country there are locals who wish to show that they don't appreciate foreigners. They sometimes show it in small gestures and a foreigner can e.g. sometimes end up last in a line where he arrived early etc. This is no big deal. But in Thailand it is much more pronounced during week-ends. Why is that? Of course we meet more working people then but I don't believe that is the only explanation.
  19. Since the question came up again: To get a new plate with a Bangkok registration you must go to Bangkok: https://maps.app.goo.gl/eYfFKR8gGw2tuzd98
  20. I put down what DLT just told me so I remember and could maybe be of use to others. Bring passport, visa and green book to this place to get new numberplate. Bike is not needed and she didn't mention the document I got from police. (But it might be helpful if police pulls me over for not having a plate?) https://maps.app.goo.gl/eYfFKR8gGw2tuzd98 (bike registered in BKK) To transfer registration, passport, visa, green book and certificate of residency are needed. Can not transfer to Pattaya DLT which is too small office. Can transfer to Chonburi office. But maybe not worth the trouble since I can pay tax in Pattaya with Bangkok registration. So if Kawasaki Bangkok can not fix it, I must go to BKK.
  21. So I may have to go here. https://maps.app.goo.gl/zPpUy568qmVoGg9x5 with a Bangkok-Mongkol plate? But I will try Pattaya DLT first. Do you know what documents are needed? Better move registration or I must go there pay tax.
  22. I bought a new bike in BKK 3 months ago. This weekend the license plate fell off somewhere on the highway to Kolat. Kawasaki had noted that the plate was a little bent but they nor I did connect that vibrations and wind take their toll. All is great with the bike but the plate is only fastened with two screws. Must have a stable board behind the plate and an extra screw. (Or maybe these flippers that the bike gangsters use 😆 - better not) I got a document from police. Kawasaki Pattaya are also good but do nothing. I and hotel must continue contacting land transport and Kawasaki BKK. What kind of problems can you expect having a bike registered in Bangkok-Mongkol? Will I have to go to BKK Land Transport to get a new plate and pay tax? Can I move registration to Pattaya? Green book is on me in Pattaya.
  23. A sprocket and a chain was 8.5 k Baht including freight from Europe. 30% duty and 7% VAT added up to 3.5 k Baht. Duty based on item cost and freight cost. VAT based on item, freight and duty. Also 200 B duty handling+VAT But that is OK. If I buy more expensive engine/chassis/details stuff I will first check how customs classifies it, though.
  24. The packages arrived today. I haven't had time to look through all. I just give a quick report here. I added what I had paid for the stuff and delivery and set towards the fees I had to pay in Thailand. Fees came to 13% on what I had paid for merchandise and delivery. I needed some special stuff not on webpage, brought from GiVi and slight delays occurred after holidays. But when things got going after holidays my impression is the system worked very quickly with UPS air delivery at reasonable rate. So my conclusion is that I wouldn't hesitate to buy mail order again from large European retailer (US probably same) and prepare for a moderate fee to Thai authorities. But no guarantee how it goes, of course.
  25. Like Kawasaki bikes. Below 1000cc are made in Rayong and above 1000cc imported from Japan. Also reflected in price. Mostly I wanted to deal with the largest GiVi retailer, they also ship by air. I assume few dealers keep specialized Items in stock so I wanted to deal with a retailer close to the source. But ordering from Italy has had delays. I hope VAT and customs will not go worse than 5+30% and with some luck less. But we’ll see. Like I wrote I dislike Amazon since it dodges VAT by importing to low VAT-countries in Europe and also lets other postal clients pay for their packages (Like Trump said) by doing their own customs clearance, avoiding that postal fee. Amazon is very convenient but it is costly for EU-citizens now to import outside Amazon (higher VAT and customs clearance fee). Amazon creates a monopoly. I fear Lazada and Shopee may develop into the same. So looking at political trends I will probably not get away without paying due fees, once the package is shipped. Admittedly Amazon, Lazada and Shopee are very convenient now. "But there is no free lunch." They are establishing monopolies which will probably make individual import difficult later. (Like from UK, US and China into the EU, already.) British mail weakened in some scandal now, I believe? Welcome to private mail, it has not been good in my country.
