  1. Thanks. But can you ride or tow a flat tire?
  2. You are hopefullu right. In the city there is no problem. But a flat or break down along the highway is different. Some Thai will probably stop and give you a ride to a repair shop that send a Hilux to bring in the bike.
  3. I am a novice scooter renter considering to buy a PCX 160. If I start making short intercity trips, what would I need to know about emergency repair. What should you bring. Just the basics. I will probably buy a new bike and follow service program. 1. Should I bring the gooey stuff to inflate punctured tires to bring me to next "bayang"-shop? (tubeless tires) 2. Should I bring a tire plug kit and compressed air bottles. (Space for luggage will be limited in a top box.) But this will not work if there is a cut in the tire. I don't think the belt breaks. Too big for me to repair? Is there some organization you can call and they come and fix it? (And if Truemove doesn’t extend its graces to where you broke down, someone will probably give you a ride into town.) Some insurance is probably overkill? And related questions, Thank you.
  4. It looks like Thai people love the Filano for extra storage and not the Lead (37 ltr!). Both 125 cc. Maybe the extra storage gives a nice empty barrel VW sound when not loaded? Hasnt the PCX a little of that ???? ? But I like the PCX 160 abs I rent now.
  5. Thanks. I guess this will be the one to download, if and when the time to buy bike comes. Right now focus on having phone repaired. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://thailand.acclime.com/wp-content/uploads/certificate-of-residence.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjbv5ffkZyBAxVESmwGHVtDAVYQFnoECAwQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1ahCljQlD7s32RK0CFvmy_ Also see some blokes are adding hooks for hanging stuff you buy on the PCX, where the handlebar is affixed. PCX is bigger than the Click so you can still hang some stuff there. Checked out three big stores for helmets in Bangkok. 30.000k is a common price. Finally bought a Real at 2600. Barely fits under the seat of the PCX. Also learnt that for some brands the outer shell is the same for XL and XXL. Just less padding in the XXL ... Taxis in BKK drive after Google maps. On the way to a bike shop we got into a narrow path along a canal and could not pass over a small bridge. We backed all the way and managed to turn the car in the temple area we had just driven through. Then I realized my Google maps was set for motorbike ???? Fortunately Thai people are usually cool and jai-yen.
  6. Thanks. I will definitely check them out. I think I only need certificate of residence. If I go to BI in Jomtien I hope it is a simple process, 500B? I only show passport and fill out address? I think I can use the same certificate of residence for different motorbike shops? All upside down right now. Samsung original workshop should change phone battery that was swollen but they broke motherboard. Lots of discussions but it seems they will fix it without ME paying 12k baht and they lent me a phone. Lets hope no further surprises on Monday at pick up.
  7. I will sure check them out. There is also this in Sattahip, I believe https://maps.app.goo.gl/U6vh2ABQzEpKwdNu8
  8. Mityon Pattaya South wants 105 for red mat PCX 160 abs. Can pay cash. On Theprasit they only sell for installments but Click and Aerox they sell cash! Mityon is 11.5k more expensive than the Internet on the PCX but 1k cheaper on the ADV which they sell at 108. But their ADV:s are grey or painted "Captain America" (=come bomb me, if someone goes adventuring in Sahara ???? ) Not suitable for an "adventure" bike, imho. I don't know so much about bikes so I write here and hope those who owned bikes a while will comment. The 160 abs PCX I rent now is very nice. Lower leg lift to get on than ADV. Not so worn but the windscreen joint has been glued. First service Feb. 2022, 6000 km. I don't know what I should offer the rental shop for it, if they sell? Bikes don't fall in price so much so maybe better to buy new. But I don't know if a new farlang bike might attract attention and trouble? Strange some bikes only sell on installments. And it is not possible to order a special color or model from Bangkok. Maybe room for business. Manage installments and locate bikes in Bangkok and sell for order in Pattaya etc. Just transport them on a pick up. Any comments appreciated.
  9. I can sense how the energy of Isaan land makes its inhabitants one with its culture. ???? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_shui https://youtu.be/enKhkTmB0OQ?si=F8qXDKZCvLY_ET42&t=137
  10. This was a popular way in some European countries more than hundreds years ago. Unnoticeably small movements of the hands will make the twig point where the dowser decides. 11. Good! How was the spot to drill decided? By Kau Chim?
  12. I have little experience but I assume the supermarket parkings have cctv and are comparatively safe, but outside that ... A wire through the opening for the face in a full face helmet and also around the bike frame would attract attention. Looks like we may have to do like the Thais and buy a Filano 125cc, or a PCI, ADV etc which I believe fit one full face helmet. Storage for a full face helmet is one of the few factors against a Click. A top box would solve that but would be nice to use for other stuff. I guess a larger top box also reduces mobility in traffic, passing between cars?
  13. I saw such helmets recently. The chin protection flips all the way back while the visor can still be in place. Seems well balanced also when they are flipped. I have had a few others where you can just flip up the visor and chin protection in one piece and then they often become front heavy and put load on your neck. There are also locks for helmets. I wonder if they act as a deterrent or a challenge to the thief ???? the simplest being a strap you insert into the buckle of the chin strap and lock somewhere on the bike.
  14. Yes. The two largest they had were Shark and NJC. Around 7k and 11k price as I remember. They say the helmets loosen up but they felt real tight. I seem to need around XXL depending on make. But for that money I wish to feel 100% good about fit and model. Lazada seems to have change of mind only for fashion and mother/baby products. Maybe Real at 2900 in another shop was best buy but still tight. I got a helmet but look to improve model.
  15. Scanned several shops in Pattaya today. Found a few large helmets but still tight. Will probably have to check mail order or go to BKK ???? Lazada har returns within 7 (14?) days, but when do I get the money back.
  16. But open face helmets come with a visor, don't they? Scanning shops now. Several have "Real" at 3000 B. Feels sturdier than mine, but even XXL feels cramped. If you order on Lazada/Shopee can you make return?
  17. Thanks. Will do. Even if it doesn't fit under the seat, theft is less common in Thailand than many other countries. There isn't much to do, a good helmet is what you need. Will hang it on the mirror in the supermarket parking or jam the strap under the seat. There also seem to be gadgets that "lock" the helmet to the bike and require cutting to steal helmet.
  18. Thanks, I will have to look into this. The locking looks similar on the cheaper helmets I have used. A red flap closing a strap with "notches". I will Google shops in Pattaya. Any suggestions of shops appreciated. I don't think the one I use has a poor lock. A poor lock to me would be the plastic buckle you have for belt bags and the strap will just slip to any length easily. Those look very unsafe and are used on helmets in rental shops. But my helmet may be thinner since an XXL fits into a Click 160 storage ... The type on my helmet seems to come at only 25B though ... https://shopee.co.th/product/308460876/9685909470?gclid=Cj0KCQjw9MCnBhCYARIsAB1WQVUuvQDVBA-pfHDXeNYXM_RxW1ckPTCm9VNUn970H9kjizogCsqYxYAaAvgLEALw_wcB --- I would not buy a helmet with this type of lock https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQaP1uXRqQf0BiyEBUqSazHDUqur3lwT3wHng&usqp=CAU
  19. Avex Crux, XXL https://shopee.co.th/product/31344940/2835156335?gclid=Cj0KCQjw9MCnBhCYARIsAB1WQVWPuMjUVsFgaCHOm7ps6R9NFp0X9F0-y0iJ0pnVAmAfYeLHoBU3dp0aAv4dEALw_wcB Is this an area where I could improve safety by getting a better helmet? Finding larger sizes is a problem. It was one of only two helmets that fit, in the biggest helmet shop I could find around Pattaya South. Other shops and supermarkets had none. Put a tape around my head now, it showed about 63 cm. If I need to improve on helmet, where in Pattaya would I go look for helmet? ... and what are the brands to look for, preferably not too heavy, using phone hasn't been merciful on my neck. I can feel that when I often keep to the left lane on Sukhumvit where pavement is neglected. Thanks. ---- Just another question: I sometimes find useful stuff on mailorder like Lazada, Shopee etc. Does it work well to order that with a western credit card?
  20. My full face helmet fits. I mostly do 60-70, so far. U-turns on highways are most critical. Even if you speed up to 80 you don't know what can come from behind while you cross over. The system seems to be built around U-turns. You can't always wait for first left and then immediately make a U-turn on the smaller road and a right on the highway since there are few traffic lights and most access roads just allow left turn onto highway. If your destination is on the right side of the highway you are often forced to making a U-turn. Well hopefully careful does it and checking the mirrors. Experience is the only way. I asked in Mityon today how the Aerox and ADV differed. But the sales girl just looked at me as if I had asked the difference between rice and noodles. You are just supposed to know these things. ????
  21. I am a novice contemplating to buy a bike. This week I rent a click 160. Much more "reactive" than adv. Good maneuvering in jammed traffic but maybe demands more attention on the highway. If you have a top box on an adv or aerox, to get on you must probably "hurdle" your right leg over the tank cap area which is higher than on pcx, but I like firm suspension of adv, feels "safe". Adv is 110k click 70. Driving position on click is high feet. If you drive far some "experts" write you should make a break every hour anyway and let any scooter <160cc idle for 10 min I keep renting 'til I know more. Occasional good prices low season. Thai people drive Filano because good storage, but Lead, 37 liter, is largest below 160cc I believe and also step thru! I don't know why so few are on the streets. Both 125 cc.
  22. I just make some simple observations regarding the 150-160 cc bikes. I saw one click with passenger and top box. It looks "little" with only only one rear shock, but probably works fine. But as one's driving improves, the adv suspension can maybe take more "load". But price is definitely a selling point for the click. Around 70k, whereas the others, also w front abs are 90-100. The only bike in that segment with dual channel abs is Nmax.
  23. Interesting. My experience is limited but the main difference to me between the 150 pcx and adv (both I drove are 2022 or 21 I believe) is the shocks. I am pretty sure a sporty guy would go for the adv. (Both have caster 26.5°, I believe that has to do with responsiveness) The adv is marked "Ohlin" below the Honda logo. Why would they rent a nicely modified bike to foreigners? How can I tell if the shocks are modified? They are really firm.
  24. I see what you mean. I rent an adv 150 since 2 days. It is firmer in suspension and has 27 l storage. My full face helmet fits in but the pcx:s have 30 l. I immediately noticed you sit 30 mm higher on the adv 150 than on the pcx:s. The adv 160 could be a good deal. Only 15 mm higher than the pcx:s and 30 l storage. Tried out the abs carefully on tarmac with sand on, in 5 km/hr. It shortens braking distance but no steering effect, bike still went forward. Between pcx and adv maybe the stiffer suspension of adv is the main difference? Would it give you a better chance if you missed a pot hole on the highway? (Naturally a little less floating/soft.)
  25. I am sure you are right. I just quote what the manual says ("on the other side of a wall"). It feels good to know what the button does. And for this bike I follow the renter's instructions. Pretty new and well maintained bike. Unfortunately they didn't want me to ride as far as Sattahip or similar. But I can still try it on Sukhumvit. I can't go so far with it. So if it jams I just call them ????
