  1. A beautiful summation of living in Pattaya!

Thank you every one who chose to contribute.

So, lets be clear then: move or your family will be hurt.

That is the considered wisdom based upon the fact that the law doesn't exist; there's no one to help. Quality of life has bombed, a man is in fear of his wife being raped; worse, himself being killed.

    Wonderful!

    Absolutely wonderful. Crystal clear.

Any criminal can do whatever they want with impunity but ordinary decent residents [house owner] is powerless to protect their family or assets. And the collective advice amounts to ...................... move.

    Anyone still thinking of 'buying'??????????????????????????????????

  2. Early on Monday morning ...................... what was that then? About 8 o'clock as he strolled down for breakfast? Or would it be, say, more like 2.a.m. when he strolled down for something more to his taste and served only under cover of darkness for fear of his sexual preferences be exposed in full sunny Pattaya day light? And his brother too. I thought the expression was 'bosom buddies'. Must have been lost in translation. 'Buttock buddies' then. Walking along the beach.

Was a business deal partly underway? I don't know about you but my Cambodian doesn't stretch to much. Perhaps it was all done in sign language? Then again woul any of us understand the Russian for: My brother and I are pratcicing homosexuals here on holiday and we'd like a cross dressing gay threesome made up of nationalites from the Asean region, with a preference for the communist regime of Laos, although not essential, to accompany us back to our hotel where we can explore the hole in your ozone layers.

You see the literal translation into to Cambodian could have easily been corrupted into: 'We are Russian charity workers handing out free gold chains. Please take mine.'

I hope the press back home in Gulag 57 run the story of the innocent early morning stroll. Take a bit of explaining in my book. Three lady boys, two brothers, a stolen chain and a visit to the police station. Some one will be bending over backwards to keep that one quiet.

I mean one pain in the arse seems to have been replaced by one of a completely different kind. I didn't know that russia / thai / cambodian relations ran so deep. There are some things you can't seem to get to the bottom of. And clearly no one got to anyone's bottom that night. Morning.

Still, there's always the chance of another 'early morning' stroll tonight .... er . tomorrow.

  3. Interesting comments but not arresting comments.

The 7-11 staff are overwhelmingly decent, honest and hard working. Also, being surrounded by their colleagues and having cctv, their actions are pretty much exemplary. Furthermore, a 7-11 job is a good job to hold onto. Moreover, the till system is accountable to each baht. Such a scam is not possible without complicit acceptance by all staff.

What we have are two Russians.

    And that says it all.

They are where they belong. A Thai jail will offer little fear for a Russian. Perhaps deporting them would be the best option as a warning to other scum bags.

  4. Would have been much more interesting if you'd have thrown in the story of how the glass came to be cracked.

    Bit dull as it is.

You see, if I said to you that I happen to have a particularly finely scarred bottom .......... it would I expect capture interested, in that you'd at least wonder 'how did that happen?'

Actually, a friend of mine, a mere colleague at the time told a tale when as a young man, drunk and dostracted by two young women, he fell naked backwards through a plate glass door.

Drunk, cut and bleading, the overwhelming concern was to cover his embarrassment. That is, his nakedness. Despite severe wounds and the gushing of arterial blood he struggled to put on his pants despite their efforts to help him.

The moral of the story was thata he never touched drink again.

As for the glass ......... well, that was easily replaced.

Now ask yourself, who would you like to come across in a bar. Me, the raconteur who would regale you with tid bits of the unusual or your good self who would order a beer and comment on how hot it's been today?

  5. What does it do if you don't have cancer?

Just give you the same problems with flatulence and diarohea as other fruits or is it super lethal at anti-social behaviour? That is, it has the same effect on the intestinal tract as being inflated with compressed air enabling you to impersonate the entire wind section of the Halle Orchestra. I've been renowned for my Benny Goodman impersonations after a mere few segments of the over ripe stuff. Great for entertaining at kids' parties if the pre-booked entertainer doesn't show.

The kids love a rasping rendition of 'Blue Moon' or anything they can rap along to.

  6. I had a few repairs done over the years and use those who were recommended. Being naive and trusting you get abused just the same as the cynical, bitter and twisted amongst us.

All were bad experiences as once again I was merely the farang to be ripped. So it cost me 7k no matter what the problem was; whether it was small or smaller: 7k then. 'Could you have a look at this?' I'd ask. 7k. 'Can you.....?' 7k. And so it went.

The work was abysmal by Euro standards but what can you do? It was paint slapped on with the same finesse a whore does her make-up in an alley. The filler was as smooth as the average pizza base and the lacquer sheen disappeared as fast as a 200 baht helmet fine.

I would expect to be disappointed, unfairly charged and told a pack of lies. So when they offer you a business card at the end of it all; accept it. You can always come on here and recommend some one.

  7. My wife spent the afternoon makig two kratongs with her Mom. She is really artistic and makes a terrific display which I always photograph.

Around 6 pm we left to go some place other than where I'd been told previously, typical Thai arrangements, and the things were floated off, splashed away as I clicked away once again at some pond at some Wat as some place.

There were hideously kids hideously dressed on a stage doing a dance all out of sync, a terrible amp system loud enough for use in Guantanamo, the same old Thai street food served up once again at single light bulb lit carts in dark corners on muddy tracks. We left for some other place that promised Thai boxing but the rain grew heavier, the electric lighting kept failing, more naff food and hideous kids lead to our going home.

All in all a total non event in country so devoid of culture it grasps at these awful bludgeoning celebrations to myth, phantasy or idol.

My wife bemoaned the awfullness of it and her Mom commented how poor a celebration it was.

My only sympathy is with the rural poor who have so little in their lives and a shower of rain managed to negate this.

  8. The growing needs of an aging society ............................................. can someone explain that?

Viagra ....... erectile dysfunction ....... male impotence ..... doesn't leave much room for the aging female then unless granma's annoying grandpa as he hasn't serviced the wheels in a while.

I thought getting old was about mobility, sinlge story apartments, chair lifts, day time TV, a bit of gardening, wearing a sun hat, grand kids, mobile scooters, in-home visits, meals on wheels etc etc.

    Seems I was wrong.

What exactly are the hormones that kick in when I reach 70 that makes me need to have sex as if I were 16?

I'm only glad my names not 'Sid'.

  9. Especially in the south .................................. Ok. Bring in cough syrup you get punished. At the airport I expect. But if you are coughing a real lot, and loud with it, then they send you to the south; as there they punish you more. Say twice the fine, twice the time.

What about if you have a cold along with a sore throat. Immigration send you to one side where a doctor is waiting to take a look. He thinks that sore throat could turn into a cough and you'd become cough syrup dependant. A syrup user. Maybe even a pusher of rosehip syrup on the streets of bangkok. Calling over to kids outside schools 'Hey Kid. yeah you with the runny nose. Want to try this? It's a kleenex'. It all starts with the simple misguided use of tissues and leads on to two paracetamol, vic vapour rub and even night nurse. Then there's cough syrup, lozenges, hot water bottles and the other cough paraphenalia.

In the Uk the punishments are harsh. When they punish you 'strongly' in the South it usually means a two week holiday in Eastbourne, forced bingo sessions, promenade walks, full english breakfast, boarding house accomadation and a virgin rail ticket home.

    That is tough.

  10. I went there a century ago to the one in Bkk and read the literature and the work of the founder. Someone tuned in to something other than gread in Thailand and trying to do his bit for the benefit of others.

Then you read the stuff posted on here and it seems that the so called eudcated farangs know nothing; offers little hope to Thais.

The restaurant in Bicester [ what a hole] deserves to fail. I hope it does. Hard wooden chairs? Can't see it being a success no matter how good the food.

  11. Unfortunately a simple question did not lead to a simple answer.

    Thanks everybody for your contribution.

I consider this topic now as closed.

But what about the wedding .................. on or off?

    Love Part two: The Sequel.

  12. The majority of people are ignorant and thick.

Thais particularly don't read. They certainly aren't educated beyond the absoulte basic.

In the west people read trash if they read at all. The majority have not read the staple classics of 50 years ago.

What do we have? Wall to wall TV. Unending, ever devouring TV.Hhence we havet rash served up to meet the demand.

Junk food on the plate and bubble gum TV for the eyes.

    It's trash. Accept it.

All soap is. Some movies are - again cagtering to the popular taste. Hopkins makes good movies. Willis makes popularist ....trash. Or he did before he stopped taking himself seriously and made enough money to laugh at saving the world ......again.

And I've never watched the junk here or at home. Why? Because old age may bring on dementia but why encourage it through active brain rot three times a week for hour an hour at a time?

    Next.

  13. With the BBc running graphic pictures of a capital city using tear gas on its own citizens just days after Obama flew out, I think the protest has to be accepted as a resounding success.

That image of a once again riot torn Thailand, politically ill at ease with itself, has been re-enforced for all independant watchers.

Also, I believe it will provide the catalyst to other anti Thaksin groups; for that is what all this unrest is about.

They have identified themselves as another section of society alienated by the endemic corruption visited upon society by the eliteThaksin clan.

The next step will be for this group of protesters to become enbraced by others and the numbers simply swell.

The problem for Thailand is that there is no application of the law. There is an insignificant priviledged elite who dominate economically and politically to preserve their vested interests and who thereby damage the remaining 99% of society. They keep the poor without hope due to pursuing policies that benefit only themselves.

    That is Thailand summised.

The answer is to take action as democracy exists only as a concept. As does the law.

The people are right to take to the streets. Their problem is only that they are never effective enough. This blind notion that a million is needed is erroneous. It will take the entire rising of a nation in order to dislodge the corrupt elite who have raped this country for a century.

I believe it will happen as history shows us once protest is on the agenda; once people start taking to the streets there is no turning back. But rather a gathering storm that does eventually sweep away all that is in its path. In this case it can be seen that it is the Police [ the Thaksin stalwarts] who are once again surpressing the people. The Army are observers. That remains a major division.

Democracy does include protest. Protest does include the legitimate tearing down of the old; Libya never fell without violence, neither did Egypt; neither did France or Russia. America gained independence through war. Therefore, we expect an escalation of violence beyond anything that Thailand has ever experienced. Also, with the emphasis on change in Burma it is clear that Thais will see what can be achieved through protest. Yet if they are denied change here, unlike in Burma, then violence will be organised and will erupt.

History also tells us that the leaders of such countries do not capitulate. Gaddaffi certainly was dragged kicking and screaming, and I expect the Thaksin clan to be little different even as the writing is firmly written on the walls.

But change will come as the alternatative will remain endemic debt and poverty for the rural poor, no political system for the middle classes and everything for the few, who contribute so little, at the top.

What is happening in the rest of the world will not somehow be mysteriously buffered from Thailand.

Change, revoultion, protest, call it what you will, has already started and continues to gather strength.

Already in China the newly created wealth has spawned a second generation elite who are despised. That problem is in its infancy at birth and yet immediately the Chinese perceive this problem of inequality as something they must address - the re-distribution of wealth - otherwise their political system is under threat.

Yet Thailand does not have a political ruling elite in the same way as here it remains a single family. The Thaksins. Where the rape of a countries resources is the objective and a political ideology is not there has to be change. The only way that will be achieved is through violent struggle and the actions of protesters taking to the streets show that. Whetehr it is the middle east, africa, burma or here.

    It was a successful protest.

    They all are.

  14. There are numerous examples of the quality of thai movies, they are particularly good at horror, the adverts are witty and original and Thai creativity at its best is unquestioned.

The problem with soaps, no matter what the country is that they are pure exaggerated trash.

The Thai examples are purely a culturally removed difficult to understand cheaply produced example. It is a reflection of the audience that the technical side of a production does not concern itself with realistic lighting, continuity is not existant, make-up can be of the pantomime variety and the acting itself is woeful.

I have been her a long time an dremember when there were no drama schools in Thailand. that is, no where to learn how to act. If more recently they have in fact materialised then I would suggest they are rubbish at what they do. There is no sign of adequate numbers of talented actors appearing.

It is trash. It is Thailand. It is 'mai pen rai' about whether you're going to have agood TV programme or a death in the family.

They simply don't care - about anything.

  15. Yes I can see that having a wife can get in the way of having a girlfriend. Especially, if you wanted to invite her round for the evening. The idea of a quiet night in, meal for two, romantic lighting, candles, a tin of spam and two forks, could be a tad upsetting if your wife was to return from Bingo earlier than usual.

However, when you say you are 'living in Isan more than 5 years'; is it in prison? You talk of breaking out some time and I'm unsure whether you mean in a rash or over the wire and away. That wife you mention, is she visiting you or did she give you the nasty rash?

That lady that you got sympathy for: has she lost an eye, a leg missing or is particularly short, fat and ugly that she'd win the sympathy vote every time. I once went on one of those 'find the ugliest girl you can' nights and meet back at the bar with her at midnight. seriously, one man produced a pig on a lead but was disqualified on technical grounds. They couldn't be nude. I came up with a behemoth of over 400 pounds I found in a 7-11 store buying all the chocolate. I promised her all the pizzas she could load into a tuk-tuk if she'd just help for that night as I needed a date to attend a wedding reception. It was only when I promised a cheese filled crust that she agreed. Oh, and the tuk-tuk had to be a fourteen wheeler truck.

I came third in the competition for 'Ugliest Bird' but at least I lost out to something akin to what you are describing. The first two clearly had the sympathy cornered. But then I do admire any guy who can love a woman with a wall eye. It's like she's watching you but your never sure which eye it is.

Whoeever said anything about stupidity? We are talking deep meaningful and loving relationships here. You met a girl in a bar. It happens all the time. If the girl is lucky it happens several times a night and the girl makes enough money for that mini mart back home where they are all so poor to shop in a mini-mart. Remember it's always location-location. Bit like Soi 8 where there's always another one along in a minute. Whether it's a taxi or punter looking for love. OK in your case it was lust but look how it's left you. Insearch of Miss. Wall Eyed dream girl circa 1959 - she's a mere 50 something but kind of looks cute after a skinfull of Singha, at 4 in the morning, half way along a blind alley whilst staggering back to the rented romantic mansion - all 30 sq.m. of it.

They say that love is blind and I expect you were that night. Blinded by the fright.

You obviously are a man of your word. You have no problem I expect with keepy your promise. But if only you'd have keepy little tiggy in your pocket your wife wouldn't now be searching through them in order to find out what's going on.

    Do keepy posty.

  16. Like it or not, accept it or reject but you can't refute that it is a damning catologue of criminality focussed upon a very small area, particular group of people and nothing ever seems to be done to catch those responsible.

It remains totally unacceptable and clearly frustrating just how apathetic the police remain.

    That is what damns Thailand.

Sure bad things can happen everywhere.

But an institutionally bad police force?

Mexico has its terrible drug wars and kidnappings but it also has a high profile highly militarised police force [and army] touring the streets in an attempt to prevent crime.

What impression do the Thai Police make anywhere in this country? As they are totally feckless whereever and whenever you come across them.

I have no respect for the police at all as I have no evience of them ever having earned that respect. The same can be said for their politicians and political system. That is two of societies major institutions dealt with. Their education system doesn't work. There is no social welfare. The justice system is deleivered when bought and paid for only and fails the poor on every occasion.

    Thailand is an awful place.

When it goes wrong and there is no chance of justice it is a hell hole waiting to swallow you up. That is the reality that happens to the unfortunate few. But it is an accident waiting to happen. Those who refuse to see this truth deny that bad people are free to do bad things to decent holiday makers.

There is no hope for this country as no matter how bad the shame there is no one in Thai society - absolutely no one - who speaks out against it.

The problem is bad that decent people are cowed into total silence for fear of their own lives should they speak out.

    Enjoy your holiday.

Enjoy reading about the next innocent young women soon to be beaten to death by the sea. Another one raped, beaten and left for dead. And of course another Thai politician saying how she was a woman and so she deserved it.

    That's the logic.

Thailand has a civilisation over 4 thousand years old and they left the trees this morning.

  17. I don't know what all the fuss is about. Every one needs a hobby.

Many years ago when I was a much younger man and quite a lothario I had many one night conquests. As a trophy I would retain the yound lady's underwear and wear the lacy garments to work the next day.

I used to ease down my trou and show the sexy lingerie to my colleagues - the latest I had earned. Very macho it was of me and I always got a round of applause!

My office manager used to wear seamed stockings. He was a tight head prop and built like a bull but loved his denier and suspender belt. The man in accounts used to apply deep rouge lipstick in his coffee break and draw on his cigareete leaving the reddened tip which he saved in a special ash tray on his desk. The office boy was a cross dresser who liked to be called 'Miriam' and wore the highest of heels and the blackest of mascara. The entire planning department at lunchtime would produce a bra from their various documment cases and settle back with it draped across their eyes and snatch 40 winks with their faces shaded.

Our profession? We were all local government officers.

  18. Apart from one comment about MISTER Tik being a Lady Boy in the first page of posts I can't a comment asking the obvious .. was the deceased shacked up with his homosexual partner?

Four months in Thailand, a life in disaray as surely his balance of mind was disturbed enough to commit suicide, finaincial worries, an expensive condo and then there's Mr. Tik. Bombs go tik and this one erupted in a leap of death.

Obviously there is much more behind the events but it still remains just as sad, tragic and a waste of life. Most of us wouldn't sink so fast, let our lives unravel like line spooling off a reel or simply go under when the going gets tough.
