1 - Yes, you have the option to extend the Permission to stay of a Visa Exempt entry or a Tourist Visa entry with a 30-day extension.  This can be done once per entry, costs 1.900,- THB (like any extension) and is delivered on the spot, with the additional 30 days added to the expiry date of the Permission to stay you received on entering Thailand.  So no need to wait till end of that Permission to stay to apply for the 30-day extension.

2 - You friend, will have applied for the 60-day extension of stay for reason of 'visiting his wife'.  This can be done once for any entry, costs 1.900,- THB but requires a copy of the original marriage certificate and a recent Kor-Ror-2 (excerpt from the Thai national marriage register which can be gotten from ANY Thai amphur, providing evidence that you are still registered as married to a Thai national, and that Kor-Ror-2 costs between 20 and 100 TB).  His Thai wife needs to accompany him when applying for that 60-day extension for reason of marriage.

Note that you friend could have applied first for the 'regular' 30-day extension (when he entered VisaExempt or on a Tourist Visa) and then for the 60-day extension for reason of marriage.  But not all Thai Imm offices allow to do it in 'reverse order'.

    Thanks for your complete information!

1: 30 day extension to visa exempt or tourist visa entry followed by 60 day extension to visit wife is possible.

2: don't understand how he was given 60 day extension as that extension is specific to wife and docs required for that.

Are you sure the friend did not have a METV.

Thanks for your response. In fact, my friend's wife carried the weeding documents when he requested the extension, so he was granted the 60 days for visit wife without knowing about it. Thanks again!

When you are in Thailand on a Permission to stay based on a Non Imm O Visa (be it for Retirement or Marriage or any other reason), you cannot apply for a 30-day extension of stay at your local Imm Office, as such 30-day extensions are ONLY for those that entered on a VisaExempt or Tourist Visa.

But when you are married to a Thai national you can ALWAYS apply at your local Imm Office for a 60-day extension of stay for reason of visiting your wife and it doesn't matter on which Visa you entered Thailand (be it VisaExempt, Tourist, Retirement or Marriage).

So in your case - married to a Thai national - you can apply at your local Imm Office for a 60-day extension of stay.  Such application can be done once for EACH entry into Thailand.  So those that have a MultipleEntry Non Imm O Visa and are married to a Thai national can apply after every entry in Thailand (which will provide them with a 90-day Permission to stay).  So if it is cumbersome to do the border-hop every 3 months, one could also extend every 90-day Permission to stay with a one-time 60-day extension for reason of visiting your wife.

To answer your last question > Immigration will not have any objections for you doing so, as you would be fully compliant with all Immigration requirements.

    Cheers and success!

Hello. Sorry about my English, it's not my mother tongue. I have a doubt, really are two.

1- Can you enter Thailand on visa exempt (30 days), extend it other 30 days and then apply for the 60 days extension of stay to visit your wife?

2-A friend went to extend his tourist visa (60 days) for 30 days, but he was granted 60 days without request it, was that the extension for visit wife or an error? (He is married to a Thai lady, but not mentioned it)

Thanks in advance for any useful comments.

Probably the Madrid embassy will give him a single entry Non O visa to visit his Thai wife without financial proof. This (as I think you know) gives you a 90-day stay.

Was the marriage carried out in Spain or Thailand? If Thailand, it is easy to get a 60-day extension without financial proof at the Immigration office in Thailand.

If married in Spain, there is a process for having the marriage registered in Thailand. Ask if you need details on how to do it (bit involved). I would definitely recommend doing so if you plan future visits.

    Thanks very much!

The marriage carried out in Thailand. So I think that my friend won't have any problem getting a visa, tourist or marriage, and extend it 60 days where he was married, correct?

    Thanks again!

  5. Hi. Sorry about my English.

One friend, Spanish male, got married on April this year with his 11 years ago Thai girlfriend. He will travel to Thailand on February next year. He will try to get a non-o visa, based in marriage, in the Thai Embassy of Madrid, Spain.

First doubt: In their web no mention nothing about financial requirements. Is this correct?

Second doubt: In the case he gets that visa is there any way to extend it with no using the one year extension? He only needs 25 or 30 days more than the 90 conceded.

I have suggested him a border run to Laos, Nong Kai border, at the end of the validity of that visa. Should that be possible?

Anyway, should be a uncomfortable option. If there are other options should be fantastic!

Third doubt: Should be better, or is possible for him, to reach Thailand on 30 days visa exempt and get the marriage visa into the country?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  6. Thanks for the responses. I should have explained better my problem, but my English is not good, I try now. I have posted here because I know you like to help others. My destination is not Thailand, is Cuba, and in onwardticket.con no have that option, but yes in onwardticketvisa.com so that is the origin of my cuestion.

Anyway, thanks again for your kindness!

  7. Hello, A few years ago, on a visit to the Spanish Embassy in Bangkok, I remember seeing a poster detailing the requirements and steps to follow in order to register a marriage with a Thai woman.

Would anyone happen to have a copy of that poster that they could share? Or someone might be in possession of the same information from another source.

    Thanks in advance.

Hola.

  8. Hi. One friend, spanish male, will go to Thailand in march for three months. He's on medical treatment.

Does he need any documents about his treatment to pass medicaments through customs?

Thanks in advance for any information and sorry about my English and if not the correct forum.

To be sure what your friend has received, we would need to see the stamps in his passport. If your friend was already on a non immigrant entry (including from a Non Ed visa) 22,000 baht would be very expensive for the 12-month extension of permission to stay based on retirement available from agents.

Hello, and thanks again for your information. I attach 3 photos from my friend, but now I'm not sure if you read this message...

If he was converting from a tourist entry (and the price suggests that) he will have received an initial 90-day permission to stay plus a 12-month extension (essentially 15 months). I cannot think of any circumstances where he would receive an initial two-years (for retirement) or a subsequent five-year permission to stay.

Thanks. Not sure 100% but near, his last visa was ED visa, that ended now in April. The price would be the same if so?

  11. Sorry about my poor English...

One good friend, staying for three years in Thailand, with tourist visa and after ED visa talks me that now has get retirement visa, without leaving Thailand via agency. I'm worried about a possible scam.

He says that has paid 22.000 THB without show of income, the agency make it for him, and they say him that is okay for two years, and that the following visa will be okay for five years.

    ¿Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for your reasonable answers.

There is an Internet service which provides valid air tickets for a small fee for exactly what you need it for. You get a confirmed reservation which can be checked by immigration. I think their service costs considerably less than 20$.  Here's the bad news: I've forgotten their address and can't find a bookmark :( ! I haven't had time to do a Google search yet, but if this service is still in business, you should be able to find it.

    I think this can help.

  13. Since the person travelling intends to do side trip that last few days, a tourist visa is not indicated, would be be waste of time and money together with the re-entry permit.

The best is to travel visa exempt, having a ticket printout to exit country within 30 days. it can be a fully refundable ticket.

    That is the point!

Some posters don't realize that a Single Tourist Visa is a hassle for my friend, because of the re-entry... And i think it's a nonsense getting a double or triple if he doesn't really need it!

And the cost of the visa is not the problem here!
