  1. A good idea for a 2nd offence I believe. 1st offence, heavy fine.
  2. I am 100% behind this, when you consider all the road deaths, the cause is usually down to a couple of simple things. 1, wear helmets. Motorbike death in the west dropped vastly when this was intrduced. 2. Speeding. Excessive speed in urban areas kills. No need to do 80 in a 30 zone. 3, no licence. It is relatively cheap to get one and means you can buy insurance, in the event of an accident, you're covered. Carry on with the implementation and fines RTP. Make Thailands roads safe.
  3. The old fine would have been adequate if actually enforced. I think this is an excellent action and I hope they really enforce and do so indefinitely.
  4. Anthrax is a serious disease, I hope they clear it up quickly. More importantly, find the source.
  5. It's wrong and we all know it. To be fair we knew this when we decided to retire to Thailand. The government won't change this rule as it's too expensive to do so and we don't vote anyhow so we have no power.
  6. I don't understand why they were not done for drink driving! The police used to be hot on that.
  7. They really need to drop the level of import duty. Not just to the US but other important trading partners too. Every Country will be renegotiating with the US now so it's wise to sort all trade relationships at the same time if possible. Just saying they will import more US goods won't work as it is just hot air and far easier said than done.
  8. Considering it's the Chinese government involved in the railways and not fly by night Chinese companies, I think the railways are safe enough. One doesn't hear of serious problems with the various railways.
  9. Considering this is more about trade deficit than tariffs, it's a possibility. Reducing the importance duty on certain products would make more sense. Food and drink. Western food, lower the duty on that, most Thai don't eat it anyhow, so no competition there. Wine and spirits is an obvious one, Thailand doesn't make anything that compares with the west so wouldn't lose too much. Thais will still buy Hong Thong etc because of the price.
  10. Exactly, this is about trade deficit and not tariffs. That can clearly be seen on the board Trump used to compare tariffs. The tariffs charged to the US on his board are far higher than what is actually charged.
  11. I just couldn't believe this yesterday. Our national airport closed for almost a day due to a substation fire! Why doesn't Heathrow have its own substation that's fully redundant? It's just common sense and fundamental engineering. As an engineer, I was totally embarrassed for my Country. Causing 100s of thousands chaos and costing the Country a fortune. I can't recall such a Total engineering disaster where nobody died.
  12. EU purchases of most things makes sense. Not military, any military going into war wants the best and couldn't care less where it's made.
