  1. If they are going to spend money on anything it should not be webcams etc.

just set the traffic lights up correctly based on traffic flow (complicated but most of the world can do it)

Ban uneducated cops from touching anything, in fact disable any overrides.

Fine people for driving poorly i.e. being in the wrong lane, for whatever reason.

I know I am in dreamland and this wont happen but with correct administration it could.

Incidentally it is not only Thailand, KL is also a nightmare for mostly the same reasons.

  2. Considering they intend to conitinue the rice scheme then the farmers will certainly produce enough rice for this to happen.

Pretty well everyone where I live have signed up for the scheme.

I could rant on about why the scheme can never work but that is another topic.

The problem is of course that the global price is well below the government price and likely to remain so.

So OK they may well be back to No1, but at a significant loss, paid for by?

  3. If some people actually researched this as opposed to jumping to the conclusion that the Thai Army are a bunch of homicidal maniacs a bit of perspective may appear.

As has been pointed this is not just a couple of villagers hopping over to lop a tree down for a bit of firewood or to build a house. This is systematic crime perpetuated by armed gangs, what are the soldiers supposed to do? Any soldier (in any army) will have been trained so that when confronted with armed opposition they shoot first, otherwise it will be you in the body bag.

  4. Customs Department seizes Bt45 million in drugs, pirated and smuggled goods.

BANGKOK, Nov 5 - Thailand's Customs Department on Monday announced that it confiscated smuggled goods, counterfeit products and drugs with a combined value of more than Bt45 million.

Speaking at a news conference, the department's director-general Benja Louischaroen said that 80 iPhone 5s units, and other pirated items were seized at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The other items were 22 pieces of ivory from Mozambique worth Bt2 million, along with 1,300 meth pills and 20,000 mood altering pills from the northeastern province of Udon Thani destined for Israel.

Other seized merchandise included 310 tanks of liquid propane gas confiscated from fishing boats in the eastern province of Rayong, worth Bt6 million.

More than 12,000 bottles of European wines worth Bt12 million were confiscated at Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi. (MCOT online news)

    That's a bloody awful hairdo.

Agreed, they need to crack down on counterfeit hairdressers or at least ban them from watching old US soaps, Dynasty/Dallas spring to mind.
  5. Whilst we all like a bit of fun and throw off at the B.i.B., give them a chance. Try learning Thai in a 2 months and see how hard the linguistic barrier becomes. Wait until the course is run and the streets respond rather than condemn at this point, We all know how hard it is. They have 8 weeks but it will require constant practice as it does with us speaking Thai. I would wish them all good for the effort they are making. It may also lead to a better understanding regarding how bad things are within their own system and that may be very good for Thailand overall.

Good to see somebody sees the positive side and is realistic. I agree try learning Thai in two months.

It is a start at least.

Hopefully they will get more funding and time and be able to really learn English.

  6. These declaration, apart from showing an understandable distrust toward the current government, are full of wisdom. The idea to rehabilitate the forests and the natural capacity of rainwater retention is the wisest. However, due to the large scale urbanization of significant areas (houses, roads, compounds...) nature alone may not be able anymore to regulate what human activity has perturbed. The idea of small dams can indeed be a solution.

But a large dam on a fault line, if true... (!!)

Absolutely agree, and it is heartening - mee kham lang jai! - that wisdom of this kind (please do not misunderstand: local folks, local wisdom is aboundant!) but here we have a perfect example of "grass-roots" people engaging in a cause larger themselves. Sure, there might be -and probably are somebody with hidden interests in this case, but: rejecting a governmental handout on the reasons given is a big! step in the right direction. And at the same time pointing to other and more sustainable options: Me like too much! Like: hope for the future, whenever that may arrive..

Have to agree with you there. This is a far more informed view than that of this or previous governments.

If the price difference quoted is also valid then surely it should be investigated.

As of the planned dam being on a faultline (I have no idea but will look) then this is indeed absolute madness.

I wish these protesters good luck.

  7. I have a couple of questions here which may seem obvious to you. I am an electronic engineer and have a reasonable understanding of the electrical side but by no means am I a qualified electrical engineer!

As is normal in rural Thailand (65km from Nakhon Sawan) I have a two wire supply to my house. Is the incoming Neutral earthed at the supply transformer?

I am planning to rewire our house as I consider it completely unsafe. I am looking at either the TN-C-S or the TT system for safety, any recommendations?

lastly are there any good websites or reference documents I can use to guarentee the safety of the installation?

    Thanks for any help.
