  1. Thai women must use some sort of voodoo. Look at all the silly men they seem to mesmerize and take under their spell. There are hundreds of stories on thaivisa of men who get taken in by some bar girl and lose their entire life savings after only a few weeks or less together ..

Was it you who once said on another topic that you took youre ex-husband in Canada to the cleaners........

No, I just said I got what was coming to me for a 10 year marriage that he chose to end by having sex with a woman I thought was a friend. It cost him a lot financially when we both got a 50-50 split. That is how no fault marriage works in Canada. I think we both gained by getting our freedom back.

Marriage is great if both spouses work at it, but not so good if only one spouse contributes. If that is the case then people a better off single. Couples that fight all the time are better off single. Unfortunately, many unhappy couples stay together for the sake of their children.

  3. But who wants Thailand to become a first world country? NOT ME! Then we couldn't afford to come and spend so much time here. I love all the differences that Thailand offers, and yet still remains relatively safe. Be careful of what you ask for.

  4. Is the OP serious or is this just another troll? I've been all over Thailand and never run into a biker "gang" but I've met a lot of biker groups that just go for rides together. As far as noise goes, any wimp that doesn't like noise should stay home in what ever nanny state they come from and let their mommy take care of them. Every day noise in Thailand is far louder than any group of Harley riders.

  5. I don't know if it is my red hair and Scottish-French back ground or not, but I was always a hothead and quick to temper. But, with the help of an older mentor, who taught me that boors are not worth spending energy on, I've gotten much better. He taught me to just laugh at the boors and idiots because it is their problem and not mine. I seem to have changed completely and very little bothers me anymore.

  6. My hotel is 2 or 3 kilometers from the heart of the city, depending on what route I take. I often take the longer route just for the walk. As I walk along the road I pass the same vendors who often wave and say hello. After a while they just become friends and once in a while I'll stop for a chat. I'll run into the same dogs that recognize me and come over to get their ears and back rubbed. The fruit lady knows I like ripe mangos and she will call to me when she has some. Another vendor knows what I like to drink and I don't even have to ask. Two young girls will bring me little pastries and give me a shy smile when I thank them. Every walk is a unique adventure and I usually learn something that would not have happened if I took my motorbike.

  7. Good one, Joe. 555

I'm going to bring a box of Borax back to Thailand when I come. Ants and centipedes don't like it. I've heard that a centipede's body juices are also toxic, so if you mash one with your shoe be sure to clean it with something other than your bare hand.

  8. A friend of mine had a thorough scan done at McCormick hospital and it only took a couple days to organize it. They scanned his knee and ankle after a motorbike accident. I think it cost him about 10000 baht. But, he had to pay before they did the scan. He was happy with the results and it would have cost him over 30,000 baht equivalent back in the USA. In Canada, the average person can't even get a scan unless you are a politician or a professional sports star.

  9. Maybe I am just more laid back and don't notice people butting in front of me. I happily let people move in front of me because I'm ever pressed for time. I just figure if it was that important then I should have planned my time better. I have seen video and pictures of what happens in China and India and that makes me glad when I'm in Thailand. I've seen far bigger lineups at Canadian store tellers than I ever have in Thailand. However, I have noticed men in Australia being far pushier than the people in Canada. That was true where ever I went in Australia. But, the Kiwis in New Zealand were far more polite than Aussies were in Canada or Australia. Again, that was just a general observation and does not stand for everyone.

  10. Don't gamble with what you can not afford to lose. Many people here have said the same thing - "Don't invest in Thailand what can't walk away from with only a few regrets".

Nothing is ever certain and all you can do is hedge your bets. It's also true that you have to gamble a bit or you won't gain much. A few of those that gamble a lot occasionally reap great rewards. That is true with love or money. If you have had good parenting and a reasonable education then that helps in planning for a viable future.

Those with very little don't have much to lose, and have a lot to gain by taking chances. There is something to be said for street smarts, but those usually come with a lot of personal hardship. Your feelings and any trust you once had in people gets burnt pretty badly. That is very true for all the women who work in bars. Their feelings have been scorched so badly that any trust they once had is long gone and it is difficult for them to have viable relationship later.

  11. She says she is happy being single. Her complaint is that family/friends give her grief about it.

This has nothing to do with Thailand. Single people have this problem all over the world.

As usual, Sheryl understood the topic and answered it succinctly. Men here seem to have their own agenda and try to change the topic.

I'm also a happily single woman. I don't want to do the married thing again. My Thai friends don't give me any grief about being single, but my Canadian friends do. My parents know I enjoy being single, so they don't bother me, but some of my female friends are always trying to hook me up with some guy. I think a few of them are secretly jealous of my freedom.

  12. There is a tree in northern Thailand that produces an amazing fragrance, but the lovely scent only happens after dark. I look for blossoms but can't find any. If I could find a similar perfume I would love to purchase some. I've asked the locals if they know the name of tree, but nobody seems to know.
