  1. literal translation

    Khun Penh yang rai kap

    you are how??

I was taught this by a thai as the way they address each other in normal life

Yes I agree, but I was'nt translating it literaly. I think it's more informal, like if you meet a mate you would'nt say "hello how are you", you probably say something like "hi how's things"

And they usually use 'bang" in it as well----bpen yang ngai bang krap

Yes it is the informal way......and if you use it ...expect to get a rapid reply as this will show you can speak Thai very well and are not a tourist Thai speaker...LOL

  2. Phom Yaak Sue Ahn Ni if you want to buy something....

the combinations are endless and all are quite correct especially if mixed with gestures and body language...... :o

I wouldnt use khaw/khau.....this means to beg more than want

as in ...Khon Khaw Tahn.....the term for a beggar

  3. Phout Thai Nid Noi is fine

Am I mistaken, or does not using 'dai' here make the sentence sound like you are basically telling someone else to speak thai a little?

If you reads it literally yes....You can use with "Mai Khow Jai".....or use Phom at the front of it..... but by keeping it simple they will understand.

phout Thai dai nid noi is fine

phout Thai nid noi is fine

mai khow jai, phout Thai nid noi is fine.

whatever works for you....the main point is to be understood not for your correctness but just to be able to communicate

  4. go to the embassy armed to the teeth...

Letters, pics, phone bills showing your calls to her, etc...

As you are both tourists it shouldnt be too hard but do what you can to make it easy for yourself.

Both governments are concerned about Slave prostitution....so the more you have to prove your intentions the better.

I took my ex there for 5 months and did the above....got the visa in 30 minutes no probs.....another guy who was drunk and obviously acting on a holiday whim was pushed from pillar to post and probably never got the visa as he got more abusive the more they stuffed him around.

Be honest, provide proof and it should be ok

  5. My ex's sister has called her daughter Sunday.......are english names becoming vogue in Thailand....she is married to a Thai guy too....????

Knew a girl called Poo once....convinced her to change it to Poolah to stop jokes from farangs

  6. Take written Thai first......formally and learn what you can while doing that.

How did you learn to speak your own language in school..???

Learn the alphabet and how to pronounce the letters ....then build your vocab by reading everything you can....learn your sentence structure by talking to and listening to Thais speaking....

If you say something wrong or structure the sentence wrong, most Thais will repeat what you said...a sure indication that you have stuffed up....if that happens ask them how to say it properly.

Remember tho that Thais have a great but frustrating sense of humour, My ex was teaching my friend how to say the word for "speak" as he always got it wrong....she said it 5 different ways often repeating his attempt without him realising it. He got p*****d of with her in the end when I told him what she was doing and he still says it wrong.....hehehe

  7. The problem lies in that everyone has a different idea on how Thai words should be written in english.

I read and write Thai and do both way translations. but also do Thai in english script and english in Thai script.

    Di Jai....glad

    Jai Di.....good heart

    Bpuat Yeow....need a piss

    Bpuat Khi...need a crap

The letter Bpaw - Bpla.....the word for fish is pronounced with a mix of the B and the P together...

Dtaw - Dtow...the word for tortoise is pronounced with a mix of a D and T sound.

If you listen very carefully to Thais speaking words like go or want.....Bpai and Dtawnggarn against words that have a B or P sound or a D or T sound, you will hear the difference.

  8. My first post here, after reading the reponses to this article I decided to post one too.

This article was only posted in one paper "The Nation" since then it has been picked up by foreign media. The Bangkok Post never covered this article as far as checking the archives has revealed. Would you not think that if there was any veracity to the story, every major media outlet in Thailand would cover it ????

The guys age and the amount he paid the girls and the number of girls changes with every article.

But to echo an earlier post...

A 53 or 56 yo one legged german with an HIV + wife is cruising the schools and Karaoke bars for young girls to have sex with has gone unnoticed for 3 years in a relatively small community....???

On a disability pension....and no other visible means of support he is paying these girls 1500 baht to 5000 baht a time to have sex with him...In an area where you can get sex for around 500 baht....??? Depending on which report you read, he has spent from 135,000 baht to 5,000,000 baht doing this on a disability pension.???

He has been caught for an overstay of visa...facing definate deportation and banning from the country for a number of years. He has little to no chance of ever getting back into the country, What has he got to lose ???

His attitude to Thai women, Witches and monkeys and the comment "I am a playboy and they like rich men". Does this sound like a comment from someone who has spent 9 years in the country on and off and the last 3 years at least full time.

If there is any truth in the story, He will face charges on return to Germany that will see him spend a lot of time in jail. Most countries have a 16yo limit on consensual sex while overseas.

In an area as small as Chaiyaphum, I would suggest that a guy of his stand out features with an AIDS infected wife, would not be able to trawl the way he claims for 3 years without some local Thai daddy punching his lights out or worse. We all know how fast gossip spreads in rural Thailand and with the wifes family and neighbours knowing of his actions, it makes it less likely that this could happen.

    Impossible....NO.....Improbable.....Yes
