  1. The more I read about this case the more it interests me. It seems there is no end to all the sub-plots and sub-stories. There are some facts for sure but lots of theories.

Fact: drugs did wash up on a beach in Rayong. Where did they come from?

Fact: there was apparently enough evidence to have them arrested (OK, sometimes not that much is needed here, but still).

Fact: all 3 judges in the first court and 3 judges in appeals court found the evidence compelling enough to convict and give them the most severe penalty. Had they gotten life or 50 years that's one thing, but to go from death to nothing is amazing.

But someone lost a lot of money and a lot of drugs apparently.

  2. I agree with the above. However also keep in mind the difference in outcomes if the computer crimes case against you actually moves to prosecution or not. Pleading guilty or being found guilty in court can result in detention, deportation, and blacklisting. However if the case receives a do not prosecute order, or if you win the case, then you can go back to your Non-O visa extension after the case (from the case visa extensions). I have seen people have problems after the case ends (if they are found guilty, even if it is a suspended sentence) of not being able to go back to the normal visa extension and being deported and blacklisted.

Yes the other suggestion is also good - fight back by having an experienced criminal lawyer sue them. This gives you some more leverage.

  3. Just adding my experience.

Was on a Non-Immigrant visa, completing the COVID extension 2 times this year, until last time at CW where I had to show proof of both 90-day reporting as well as TM.30, which I did not have. 90-day reporting had not been a requirement previously (Non-Immigrant visa from outside Thailand). Long story short, I had to go out to MTT to get both and pay some fines before coming back to CW the following day.

  4. Hi all, just a quick update from today (15 October 2020) at Chaengwattana, Bangkok for the under consideration stamp extension, as follows:

    - Was on Non-Immigrant Multiple Entry visa from Thai consulate abroad.

    - Previous used embassy letter to get 30 days extension, and they stamped a report back date of 15 October.

    - Arrived at 1:00pm, and got the N2 queue.

    - Around 40-50 people before me in the queue, so had to wait around 90 minutes to see the officer.

    - She took the passport and asked me to sit.

    - Around 60-90 minutes later, I got it back, with a stamp from 15 October to 30 November.

    - I went and talked to the room boss and asked her (in Thai) what I should do for after 30 November. She said I would need to get another embassy letter and come before 30 November.

    - Finished around 3:30-4:00pm

    - Overall not bad compared to when I went in September, which took 6-7 hours.

Hope this helps those about to do the same, and would like to hear back if they get different info on what to do after 30 November.

  5. Thank you for the advice. I got the feeling from the officers today that they were not sympathetic to those who had no means with which to extend.

If I can disturb you for a follow-up question -- with the '15-day' suggestion for getting an extension of stay based on a new reason, I suppose I should go ahead and get it done by 01 October. However, won't this mean my reporting on 15 October will be for naught? If I report on 15 October for the embassy extension, but somehow already have a 1-year extension of stay for another reason, how would that work? If I wait until 15 October to get a new extension, that is only 11 days from when that embassy extension will expire (26 October). Or, am I over-thinking the '15-day suggestion'?

Thank you for any advice provided.

  6. Thank you for the reply ubonjoe. I have a friend coming back to Thailand with something similar to the above and will advise her to try asking for a 30-day exempt stamp (US passport) instead of using the remaining 18 days on the extension of stay. (real scenario is extension of stay through 17 APR, but entering Thailand on 31 MAR with a multiple-entry re-entry permit).

  7. I know the topic is a couple years old, but a quick clarification question:

    - For the extension of stay based on retirement, the photo shows "extension of stay permitted up to 27 AUG 2018" - so is this date the same as a visa "enter before date" (thus leaving on a re-entry permit and coming back in on say 26 AUG 2018 to get another extension) or is that the hard deadline for using the extension (if he came back on 26 AUG 2018, would he have 1 day to stay in Thailand, or would they stamp him a 30-day visa exempt status (if his country's passport is eligible for that)) ?

  8. For opening bank accounts in Bangkok, it is good to have a reason prepared for not having a Non-B / Non-O and WP. Speaking Thai helps, or having a Thai person go with you will do. On a TV, you could open an account if you have a letter from Thai family, letter from a job (offer), or something else. Usually as long as they see you are not a criminal, just want to use the account for normal purposes, and deposit a decent amount of money 20,000THB+, it should work. Try the Kasikorn branch near Phra Arthit Road. No problems opening an account there on just a TV and some supporting documents.
