The figures do not add up. Chiang mai is close to 19deg. North. The sun takes 1/4 of the year to travel from Equator to the Tropic of Cancer which is close to 23.5 N. Therefore the Sun moves 1 deg N in 4 days. The Sun will reach overhead 4x4.5 days before the solstice i.e. 18 days from June 21st= 3rd June!

14th May is 38 days before the solstice. 38 days divided by 4 = 9.5  deg south of the tropic = 14N. somewhere about Saraburi. My figures are approximate for clarity.

I am not sure what you are trying to demonstrate. The Sun (apparent motion) in declination is not linear and constant in time, 1deg/4 days is an average that doesn't represent the speed close to solstice. Anyway the "unique astronomical event" is futile, devoid of any scientific interest and hardly unique since it repeats itself twice every year. Pity, because NARIT's Astropark is indeed a nice facility for outreach and education.

    I don't want a smartphone , that is why I bought the Garmin 67.

Li-battery lasts 180 hours , no smartphone can do that.

    I also bought a new camera because I don't want a smartphone.

My smartphone can do GPS and camera and maps, but you are right I have to recharge it every 120 hours, indeed it's a bit of a pain to connect it to a USB charger before I go to bed.

  3. There was already a recent thread on this subject here.

I am not an expert on cheddar, but Go Wholesale sells a locally made one which includes a 24 mo. old "vintage" variety which seems a good buy for the price.

The surgery itself was done at the Suan Doc operating theatre but everything was managed via Sriphat. Even the rooms were on the 12th floor of the IPD which is specially reconfigured and kitted out to a much higher standard.

    Well, if your opening statement
"Sriphat is a very modern building and is home to somewhere in excess of 100 specialists, all of whom are associate and assistant professors....the range of medical talent there is very impressive."

referred to Sriphat IPD, then I have to conclude what we live in 2 different Chiang Mai's in parallel universes. Nothing could be more far from the Sriphat IPD that I know. Have a good day.

As to the 'nudity', it's less than 50 years that just about every Thai peasant woman (mostly Khmer & Lao) went topless all day every day ... But modern technology is producing whole generations of memory-free people.

Many downsides in modern technology I agree, but if there's something that technology allows is exactly the preservation of old records and memories, you can in fact easily search for images of what you describe and see for yourself even if you were not around at least not in Thailand.

And frankly, I am not sure that I want to see every woman topless, just as much as they don't really want to see me bare chest. Some women's apparel are in fact much sexier than the real thing, as proven by their price tag.

As far as I'm concerned, Sriphat is the only hospital I will use for any reason. I had surgery there four months ago and every aspect was faultless.

To make sure, you are talking about Sriphat OPD, the new building at the end of Sirimangakalaja (sp). I concur with you, excellent place. The original Sriphat, now IPD, is however a decrepit old building with inferior services for specialist visits. I am surprised you had surgery at the new building, because I thought that (as OPD implies)  they don't have overnight rooms. Unless it was a simple procedure and they sent you home the same day.

I have no experience about the OP request. I would like to mention however that Bangkok Hospital CM is at least at the same level as the new Sriphat, actually in my experience better, although pricey.

Both Sriphat OPD and BHCM offer packages of full tests tailored for seniors.

Approximately how much would it cost in Thailand?

I guess it depends on where you are/which hospital. I do it (for medical reasons) at RAM Hospital in CM, 270B, face only. They apply a kind of gel, 7 minutes, you wash it off. It requires prescription.

I think the bottom line is that as many qualities as Chiang Mai may have, it's become unlivable. With the air quality being as bad as it is for so many months of the year, is it worth it? I don't think so, I think it's a no-go zone, at this point in time. Time to re-locate.

Are you living here? If not, as it is clear from your generally misinformed posts, why do you want to relocate? FYI, the fires are in CM province, which is the largest province in Thailand. Not in CM city, and in fact the air in the past few days has been -far from good, granted- quite breathable. But to your partial excuse I have to admit that the article is intentionally misleading.

  9. It depends on the kind of blood test. If they told you that, best follow their instructions. If you want(ed) to argue, then better find out first exactly what tests they are going to carry out.

  11. Both official taxis and grab-like drivers know exactly what is going on. get whichever you prefer, allow for 30min more than usual just in case. There are ways to go from Warorot to Airport avoiding the moat, Huay Kaew, Nimman. e.g. heading to B11, direction of Promenada, then easy splash-free main road towards Airport Plaza. I expect the airport itself to be actually rather quiet since all Songkran arrivals have already happened and departures not yet.

Both Chiang Mai and Bangkok are the New Beijing. They are now up there on the level of nearly hopeless, and both are true crisis zones. Nobody knows the extent of people with failing lungs, and respiratory issues.

This sits squarely on the tiny shoulders of Sretta, who is doing absolutely nothing. It appears to be quite the opposite he seems to be doing everything in his power to not hold sugar farmers and not hold Big Agra responsible for this.

Perhaps you should inform yourself before posting. In CM province, the subject of this thread, the "big agra" and farm fires are close to zero. It is almost exclusively forest fires, and if you lived here you would know that local and central government have done more this year than in any year of the past decade. You would also know that firefighters have an almost impossible job due to the terrain, and are often confronted by angry local villagers when they try to apprehend the fire starters. They are true heroes, not just opinionated keyboard warriors like some on this forum.

Yeah but those walk in windows really slow down the drive throughs....Fair is fair as scooters can't drive through....

Sometimes agencies will funnel 4-5 or more people to the walk in line....I got stuck behind a pushy agent & 6 or 7 people she guided to the window then jambed their paperwork through one by one..... A couple of them had something incomplete & then corrected and resubmitted as I tried to remain calm.....

Scooters can drive through, I did  it several times.

btw, people on foot have the same rights as people in cars. If the agent brought 6 people in a van, wouldn't it be the same issue?

Smof will have a minimum impact for Songkran,, who believes that crap??

I was at Imm a couple of days ago, I was probably the only foreigner wearing a mask. Yesterday I saw a young farang riding his scooter at full speed (way over the limit) in 40C with PM2.5 well over 100, no shirt, no helmet, no mask.

So yes, I think that crap is probably correct at least as far as foreign tourists are concerned.

Without X Rays around 23000 baht. The most I paid was 29000 with X Rays. Private hospital wanted 200,000

I paid about 76k in a large private hospital in CM, inclusive of all pre-op tests and post-op recovery in single room.

  16. I don't know about "best", but I found Dr Tapanut Ariyanon (lady) at Sriphat OPD very knowledgeable and thorough, and as a plus that new building is a joy compared to some older private establishments. Mind you, this was late 2022 and my issue was actually more about T than EN.

  17. I have been using a number of pools over the years, and at each of them there's invariably some swimming lessons going on particularly in the afternoon. Both group and one on one. So choose a pool convenient for you, and look at the notice board or ask the ticket office.

A nice example of how mediaeval barbarism outlasts fitful Western attempts to bring modernity and freedom ...

Though of course it was (at least in part) the Soviet invasion of late 1979 that set off the current round of endless horrors.

Well, if you want to read it that way. Or you could say that, in order to counteract the Soviet attempt to take over Afghanistan, it was the US that encouraged and supported the Taliban movement initially. Making a mess not unlike their initial support for Saddam in Iraq.

But we can agree that let to itself, without Soviet or US interference, Afgahnistan would probably be a much happier country today. I still remember talking to an Afghan refugee lady in the late 80's who had tears in her eyes describing how beautiful her home country was.
