  1. It's really pretty simple. When a bank has been around for 150 years or so they have seen it all including those iconoclasts who felt much as you and got stung. The insurance companies I'm sure will survive even with those that feel they are ahead of the game avoiding their clutches evil or otherwise.

Lloyd's has been around for about 350 years and I'm sure in their early days they saw the odd few ship owners who didn't feel the need to spend any time in the coffee shop.

So I'm relaxed about all this as well.

Perhaps you can explain to us how health.travel Insurance companies manage to stay in business, I mean, you seem to think that everyone should buy health insurance so that must surely mean that lots of people are getting sick and claiming on these policies otherwise there would be no need to buy it in the first place? That being the case and the insurance companies are paying all these large hospital bills, surely that means the business they are in is not very profitable, no?

You're misuderstanding it Chiang Mai. Insurance is a very profitable business because most of the insured don't need to make a claim.

People don't take out insurance because they are sick and need to make a claim (those people don't get offered insurance unless the premium is high), insurance is bought as a safeguard just in case it's needed, and in most cases it's not. That's one of the reasons insurance companies make nice profits

  2. I'm not familiar with Phuket and only hear about it's problems through the media but one of the things I do hear is that many of the taxi-drivers are illegal, being non-licenced. I'm assuming the protesting "large group of mainly Thai taxi-drivers" were of the licenced variety.

It would be wonderfully ironic and hypocritical if any of those protesters belonged to the unregistered group.

  3. A Paedophile is a paedophile is a paedophile!

People trying to make excuses for this behaviour because she probably approached him, and she lied about her age and he may not have known her true age are pathetic.

If you are not a paedophile you do not proposition a girl without ensuring she is of legal age especially when the majority of asian girls look younger than what they are.

If you are not sure of her age, but you are certain you are not a paedophile, then you walk away.

I doubt very much that the girl was pre-pubescent, so it's hardly paedophilia.

So if the a girl is not pre-pubescent it's ok to have sex with her? Clearly you need treatment.

  4. If it's a setup then that would make me respect the police work even more.

Setup or not, a 13 year old in broad morning daylight and wanting to have sex with her is a very lock-uppable offense no matter what the circumstances.

(Yes I'd take a more sympathetic view if it was a dolled up 15 year old at 3am at some disco.)

So 4 am is broad daylight in your part of Thailand ?

Did you look at the picture of the girl in the article? She's as tall as the officers surrounding her.

    I smell a rat.

She's actually shorter than all of the men in that first photograph. I smell something.

  5. What's all this over the top conservative language about. Your city has thousands of prostitutes running around and mass corruption. Your country obviously doesn't mind these activities so just tell it how it is.

As far as the guy is concerned. Lock him up, he is sick !!

Guess what? Your city, whichever one it is, also has of prostitutes "running about", and almost without doubt, corruption.

Get off your bloody high horse.

And as far as the accused is concerned, yes, lock him up after he's been found guilty.

  6. Any retail store I ever worked at always taught their employees to never ever do what these employees did. That is why companies have insurance. Cooperate and placate the criminals. It's simply not worth getting killed over someone elses money; especially a corporation that should train its employees in these matters. It begs the question, "At what point does being noble become stupid and useless?".

    Nice sympathetic thoughts from you.

I'm sure most reasonable people would prefer a little nobility rather than stupidity and uselessness.

  7. IMHO Thai bouncers, along with the vast majority of people in the LOS, are very slow to resort to violence. Erroneous or not, if they thought the frenchmen were the instigators, they would not have started by launching an attack, but by a more civil approach. Most likely what happened is an over-aggressive reaction by the possibly innocent French tourists which escalated when they refused to cooperate. It is so easy in this country to avoid trouble, but I would guess the group were sick of being treated as if they were active members of Al Qaeda and reacted the wrong way.

Peterdarby have you had your head in a hole somewhere. "Bouncers slow to resort to violence"....maybe you don't realise that there is attack or altercation involving bouncers every night on Walking Str and sometimes more. A lot of these guys are pack violent and know that 99% of the time the police will not even bother investigating unless the tourist files a complaint, even then it's a few baht fine and a handshake. You are right in your assumption that most people who are assaulted by these thugs will try to fight back in some way, but then the pack instinct takes over and they get stomped. True story dude.

Whats the name of the other place, Insomnia?

Pattaya, just keeps getting better and better by the day, you really couldnt make this shit up.

Mixx, thats the place that charges 160 baht for an 8 baht bottle of water isnt it?

If you want to pay 8 baht for a bottle of water buy it from 7-11, don't be stupid enough to expect it from a late night entertainment place. They do it partly to keep cheap bastard advantage-takers out.

You do know that every bar, or anywhere that commercially offers anything for sale, charges a premium? Even that bottle of water that you pay 8 baht for costs the bar/shop less than that.

  8. the trigger could have conceivably been pulled twice by accident during the struggle.

As the writing on these pattaya 'news' sources is notoriously poor i suspect the 'automatic' discharge of the gun was more a result of lousy word choice than anything else.

the fact that the moron was shot with his own gun while trespassing to destroy someone else's property certainly suggests the thai was defending his home.

no farang can get a gun license in Thailand !

    Not one !

On the wife's name yes,not on yours !

Yes they can. As long as they go through the procedure of applying for a licence and having one issued.

  9. Of course lets not forget in all this, if the ex honoured the custodial agreement, perhaps it may not have occurred.

Daughter sick. Sounds like if this guy went off the deep end, then it may have not been the first refusal. 2 Thais vs 1 farang. Probably not going to get much help there.

It doesn't condone his actions, but everything happens for a reason. Be interesting to see who actually owns the handgun.

Maybe you could post the details of the custodial agreement that you clearly have knowledge of in order for you to justify suggesting the incident may not have happened had it been adhered to.

  10. "KHAMPHAENG PHET – January 27, 2013 [PDN]; at 12 p.m., a report of a man being shot and injured "

"During questioning, Mr. Manoonsak said he had been sleeping in the bedroom on the third floor with his wife, whom he recently married. She was identified as Ms. Piyathida Singreuang, age 34, the owner of the restaurant downstairs".

Some questions of my learned friend m'lud.

    1. Where were these people when this incident happened? Kamphaeng Phet province or Nakhon Sawan province?

    2. Why were Mr Manoonsak and his wife in the sack at noon?

    3. Why wasn't she cooking food downstairs in her restaurant?

    Re your questions:-

    1. Why is it relevant?

    2. Why is it relevant?

    3. Why is it relevant?

  11. These young pensioned off Norwegians have nothing better to do all day than drink. Mix that with firearms, especially without experience, accidents are bound to happen......what on Earth a father is doing waving it around with a 3 year old girl present beggars belief.

Indeed, never mind waving it around with a child present, why TF does he feel the need to even carry a gun.

Excellent news this, made my day, farang <deleted> shot with his own gun, som nam na.

And you, of course, know exactly what went on in that house in order to make your reasoned judgement?

  12. Sorry, I don't have any career advice for you but your post seriously infuriated me. I sincerely hope you are not teaching at my children's school based on what you said about yourself.

You described yourself as a mechanic "masquerading as a teacher" although your self-adulation states that you are now quite good. Wonderful. To be earning as much as 30,000 baht per month you must be one of the best.

Thinking about it, I actually do have some advice for you...stop fraudulently being a teacher.

If you have had some formal training as a teacher, or maybe if you are teaching mechanical engineering then I do apologise.

I realise I am probably going to be shot down now by all the non-qualified "teachers" on this forum, so fire away...if you have the credentials to do so, if you see what I mean.

  13. "The bikes rightful owner, Khun Giratigan aged 28 was called-in to identify the bike and take back possession of the vehicle."

In the photo, Khun Giratigan appears to be pointing at the culprit, not the bike. Is that how police conduct ID parades in Thailand? Escort the suspect out in handcuffs, stand him next to the stolen property, and ask the victim to identify the offender....??....??

    No, it's not.

  14. Good for her (assuming its a genuine complaint of course). Can't be easy to stand up against a preying family member. If we take the report at face value the mother should be locked up too!

Why should the girl's mother be locked up? Because she left her adult daughters with their step-father, where the one who was assaulted apparently had her own bedroom?

And why would you suggest that the complaint may not be genuine?

If your post is taken at face value you should be locked up too.
