  1. Yesterday saw here a paint job [getting old cant even remember what the paint was called]

Lots of cars had them in Europe 15 - 20 years ago. depends on the light as to what colour it is, catch it in the right way can see lots of different colour's or as it moves it changes colour.

It's referred to as Chameleon paint, made by a US company called Chromaflair.

  2. It's also just the lack of being logical while driving...many accidents could be avoided if people would keep at least 30 meters between each other.

Yesterday I had a few vans and buses drive at 5 meters from me...and I was going 110 km/h...

When buses or trucks sit on my bumper in heavy traffic I break a little, then speed up to make some room, if they continue to sit dangerously close I wait for a hill and slow to a complete stop to give them a few minutes to think about how to keep safe on the roads.

If you mean that you slow down and stop, forcing them to stop behind you, then you're just as bad as the tailgaters. Are you some kind of self-appointed law enforcement officer? What a moron.

  3. The main loiterers seem to be groups of students. I don't know, but when I was studying or preparing school papers many, many years ago, I did so in a quiet environment where I actually could concentrate on my tasks, but certainly not in a noisy fast food joint with lots of distractions. Perhaps that is why I hold today a reasonable lucrative job, why my English (as a foreign language) is proficient enough, and why I still can do simple arithmetics in my head without the need for a pocket calculator.

Well you have been very priviliged.

I'm not condoning students occupying tables for long periods, but some of them are trying to do what you were able to do, study. Many of these student's homes are little more than one-roomed shacks with the rest of the family there and the television blaring away constantly, a situation in which it is impossible to study effectively. Ask yourself what you would do in that situation.

  4. "championship-winner Red Bull Racing carried out a demonstration run through the streets of the nation's capital"

Was that by any chance the demonstration by the red bull owner's son on sukhumvit soi 53 at 5.30 am a few months ago?

    Yes in co-operation with Ferrari

I realise that these remarks are tongue-in-cheek, but you do know that there is no connection between the Red Bull team and Ferrari F1 team, don't you?

  5. My mind boggles as to where these roads are. The suspension on a F1 car is not meant for bumps. When the F1 drivers talk of "bumps" they are referring to 100m undulations. Please can somebody tell me a route that won't require complete rebuilding. Please bear in mind that these races need to showcase the city so will need to include a number of major tourist sites and the business district.

It is no surprise that Bernie is heading East. The West is becoming a more discerning customer by the day. Every £,$ and Euro is spent carefully in pursuit of enjoyment. http://es.pn/YmE2Z6 shows why the races are moving away from Europe. It looks like Bernie needs to gamble.

He has Singapore, Sepang, Shanghai, Yeongam, Suzuka and Buddh yet still the revenues aren't as high as they were 10-20 years ago. Reduced sponsorship opportunities due to regulations on tobacco sponsorship coupled with people in the West pursuing more "interactive" free-time experiences has led to shrinking attendance figures in the West. He NEEDS to make these races work. Maybe he will be paying towards the needed improvements just to make this work. After all, where else has he left to turn in the region? Taiwan won't happen whilst he wants the Shanghai race and the other countries are further behind in infrastructure than Thailand. It seems to me he has little choice but to make this work....and soon.

I don't think any car, F1 of not, can cope with the 100 meter (miles?) undulations you refer to!

  6. It's a preposterous thought to consider a legitimate F1 race in Bangkok and then to beat the band, at night! If you read the entire WSJ article it mentions that a demonstration was held in Bangkok in 2010 sponsored by - you guessed it - Red Bull. Not coincidentally, the proposed F1 race is cosponsored by the owners of Red Bull and Singha Beer , the joint owners of the Thailand Ferrari dealer Cavallino Motors.

When there is big money behind promoting a venue, F1 and Bernie Eccelstone have nothing to lose by accepting the Thai commitment money. We wonder if the hit and run killing of the Bangkok police officer three months ago by the Ferrari was an additional "demonstration" of the Ferrari's agility and handling while dragging that copper's body through the streets of Bangkok. Very ironic turn here as we continue to wait for further or any news on the warrant for that driver's arrest on numerous charges as reported in this newspaper.

What is the relevance of the tragic event that claimed a police officer's life to the very positive announcement of a planned F1 race in Bangkok? There is no irony; the Ferrari F1 team is not involved in the manufacture of the same company's road cars and Ferrari was in no way involved in that accident in the same way that Honda ( for example) was not involved or responsible for an accident a Civic had near Onnut. And if you're suggesting that Ferrari should feel embarrased about continuing in F1 racing because one of their road cars was involved in a fatal accident, why would that be? There are other teams whose road cars have been involved in fatal accidents but nobody's shouting about those, eg. Lotus, Mercedes, Caterham.

Bull sh**, bars don't pay them, customers pay extra when they chat or try to off them. The are called PL (pretty ladies) in Thai and they are paid about 100 baht per day with the permission to sell themselves (and the product)!!!

You obviously don't know what you are talking about but carry on mr know all!!

    Clearly, neither do you.

  8. I would not hesitate to kill any dog who attacked me or threatened me.

These animal do good-ers (most likely family of the person most likely to have to cough up 300k) have gone tropo and off this planet.

In a civilized country, the dog would have been put down (killed) by Government authorities.

These people are outrageous. The lesson learnt here is that after you get bitten, in Thailand it is easier to smile and then poison them.

Yet another misinformed poster? Dog never attacked him but his dog. Read the full story before posting your hateful rubbish

You're the misinformed one; you should read all the reports including the one with photos of the German's injuries before posting.

  9. I thaught I read (yesterday?) that in the cctv, that whoever was using the card in the 711 and atm kept their helmet on, I think Mummy and Daddy need to realise that their little boy wants to live HIS OWN LIFE........ maybe????

I hope you are right, but it his disappearance sounds strange. He has a fun job as a ski instructor at Aspen, he has a bungalow that he's had in Kata for years, so why hide from his parents? His parents are going through a pain that no parent should have to go through...

Maybe it's a personal thing that has happened between him and his parents, nothing to do with any of us. And unless you've been in that particular situation yourself, you should reserve judgement on it.

  10. Have the banks cancel all of his ATM cards. If it is him, he will soon make contact when he needs cash. If it's not him, at least the crook pulling his money out will be unable to do so.

This should have been done as soon as the family saw the CCTV video.

If it is him why should his bank cards be cancelled? What justification would the bank have for doing this? He's a grown man who has done nothing wrong and should be allowed to live his life as he wants. If nothing untoward has happened to him all that has happened is he didn't get on a flight by his own choosing and I do hope that is all that has happened. If it isn't him using the card then obviously further enquiries need to be made.

  11. Bangkok has 1,000 things which need improving. Where to start? Best would be to relocate to higher ground, as it's going to be under a meter of year 'round standing water in the near future.

as for traffic, here are some things Bangkokian big shots can do:

    >>>. develop dedicated 'turn lanes' at intersections. Instead of 3 lanes stopped to enable one to move, two lanes could move while two are stopped. More traffic would be moving rather than standing still and idling.

    >>> get those black smoke belching buses off the streets. Last time I was in Bkk (I go there as seldom as possible), I had to wait for a bus and nearly died (no exaggeration) from constant black smoke blown in my face. It was awful!

    >>> develop parks. Bkk, like all Thai cities, has a paucity of parks. Even when Thais build a park, they are compelled to pour cement over most of it. Is it just Thais, or do all Asians have an aversion to grass and trees?

.....just a smattering of improvements which could help Bkk progress from crappy to moderately bad.

Maidu, it is terrible to read that just waiting for a bus you almost, (without exaggeration), died. I take it the rescue sevices assisited you promptly and that you are now fully recovered from what must have been a horrifying experience? Thinking back, I do seem to remember a TV report of a remarkably similar incident, I wonder if that was the same one?
