  1. What load of shit from thai Immigration in thailand //

Some of those thais at Immigration people are just full of it .

I think many problems come from farangs, not from the Immigration Officers.

There are many times problem due to comprehension/translation only.

Here I think like mahjongguy above: he just asked you "someone that could understand/translate".

BTW how could he know you have a Thai wife ? You don't mention that on Retirement form.

Obviously you don't read all the posts. I said early on that the officer asked me if I was married with Thai and I answered yes. I thought he was just making some "chit chat" when he asked me. I then even asked him if he was married and he said no but he had some girlfriends.

  2. What's the big deal about bringing your wife with you? Retirement Visa's are for 1 year so surely bringing your wife with you one time can't be such a hassle whistling.gif

Maybe the big deal is because he's applying for a retirement extension! You don't need to have a wife for a retirement extension, so why should he need to take her with him.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago in Korat when I went for my retirement extension. My wife works, so she would have to take time off work to come with me, so I didn't take her. They wanted to see her ID card and copy of her house book, even though I don't even need a wife for a retirement extension and I've never been asked for these before. They also wanted her to sign the same document that Ken posted. When I insisted that she couldn't come to Immigration (50 Kms each way from my house), they eventually accepted that, but then they made me wait because the boss was not there to sign the extension, but the boss never came back! I had to go back twice before I finally got it signed.

I've had 7 previous retirement extensions from Korat immigration with no problems before, but now they're making it very difficult. It took 3 days and 300 Kms to get my extension which previously took about 20 minutes.

I'm "with you Bill". My wife also works. Indeed, I knew about the "proof of address", meaning signed copies of wife's ID card and housebook, so I supplied those. In the past I have never had any issues with Korat Immigration, but for whatever reason they are getting more and more unfriendly.

Well, my wife has better things to do than spend a day with me at Korat immigration which is a 250 km round trip from our house. Hey, I think it's a waste of MY time and I don't have anything in particular better to do.

  4. Completed my one year retirement extension in Korat yesterday, as I've done for many years. This year they have some extra "forms" to complete, like acknowledge overstay penalties. One form (attached) was completely in Thai and that form I was told my Thai wife needed to be with me to sign. There is a place at the bottom for what looks like 4 signatures. I had to sign the top spot and the officer wanted to see my Thai wife sign the bottom. He wasn't particularly "pleasant" when I asked why, with just a "grunt" in reply. Said next year I must bring wife with me. Guess we shall see, next year. Sorry for the poor quality of the document, but the original is bad as well. Can anybody read it well enough to tell me what the document is about?

  5. You have changed the Tenda mode to repeater. Normally that will automatically deactivate all its routing/NAT functions and make it act as a passthrough device.

Part of the setup for that should be finding the wifi network of the TP-Link and connecting to it using the login and password, which you will know.

Apart from that it should be plain sailing and it sounds as though you have just omitted the last part.

I used a Tenda in repeater mode once and it worked OK though repeaters have some intrinsic faults that can never be overcome.

Another option (possibly more robust) would be to run an ethernet cable from the TP-Link to the Tenda and put the Tenda into access point mode, assuming it has one.

Thanks for the info. I didn't really omit the part, but when doing the scan, it found my TP-Link router, I selected it, and then I gave it the wrong password. I thought it was asking for a new one, but obviously it wanted the TP-Link password. After doing that I have disconnected all Ethernet cables from the Tenda and I can now connect to the internet thru the Tenda working as a repeater. It does work. Thank you.

  6. Thanks for the reply. My main router is the TP-Link and I have internet connections thru this router, no problem. The Tenda is set up as a repeater (did this in the settings of the Tenda). I can "see" the Tenda in available wireless connections and I can connect to the Tenda wirelessly. But there is no internet connection on the computer that I am now connected to the Tenda. Does that explain a little better?

  7. I am running Windows 7 on all my computers/laptops. My main router/modem is a TP-Link Wireless G ADSL2+ connected to my TOT account. I wanted to extend the range of my router, so I purchased a new Tenda W309R+. I can do the settings of the Tenda and change wireless basic settings to be in repeater mode. I can then disconnect my Ethernet cables and I can find and connect to the Tenda Router. But I have no internet connection thru the Tenda and I can't figure out what additional settings I need. Obviously at this point I have no idea whether My TP-Link router/modem will work with Tenda. Anybody have some ideas what I might try?

  8. Just did this yesterday in Korat. Seller, Farang, had to have immigration resident letter. Having said that, must also say that seller signed a "power of attorney", and did not show up in person. Last year I bought a motorcycle in Nong Khai. Seller Farang went with me to office and did not need letter, only passport. I needed letter from immigration.

  9. Is it possible to post ones 90 day raport to the office, and by that I can remain at home??

    Glegoo

Korat Immigration does not allow 90 day address reports by post. Must be done in person. However, they do have a separate queue system for the 90 day report, Thank Buddha.

Also if you are from Chaiyaphum, then you don't use that office anyway. I think Chaiyaphum people go to Khon Kaen.

    They do indeed.

Since when? I just did mine on Jan 12 and they said must do in person. In fact this past November another friend asked his neighbor to do it for him because the neighbor was going for an extension anyway. In the past they allowed this. This time they told the neighbor that they no longer allow this and it must be done by the individual himself.

Edit: And if I miss read your post, sorry. When you say "they do indeed", are you referring to the allow by post or Chaiyaphum reporting to Khon Kaen?

  11. Korat Immigration will not let you do 90 days by mail. Their reasoning is that anyone can do your 90 day as you do not have to go in person. I am not saying there reasoning is correct.

Apparently not always. Couple weeks ago, an American friend tried to have his Swiss neighbor do the 90 day report for him. The Swiss guy was in for his yearly extension. Korat immigration wouldn't do it and said now must be done in person. So then American friend went a couple days later and asked why. I should say his wife asked why, and the officer gave her a bunch of "lip" and said something to the effect, because that is the Korat rules and they need/want to see the person "in person". Not willing to listen to any argument. For whatever reason, Korat immigration is getting more and more "nit picking".
It seems Thai Immigration bends their rules to fit their needs. Last year I was sick and missed my 90 days reporting date by a week. I had a letter from my doctor and my hospital bill to prove I was sick. The immigration guy told me being sick is not an excuse for being late as someone else could have come in for me and charged me a 2000 baht late fee.......go figure.

Kind of sad, isn't it. I personally have never had any problem/issue at Korat Immigration. But now, with the recent issues being reported, I'm starting to wonder "what's happened".

  13. Looks to me very much like the Head Of Immigration Police Division 4 (or whatever he likes to call himself in Thai) - at whose behest this change has presumably been ordered - has a super-inflated ego.

Is he similarly fussy about the addressing of Embassy income confirmation letters? And is he now insisting on such letters being written solely in the Thai language?

Since I use the Embassy income letter method, that thought also crossed my mind. So far there has been no change reported in how the Embassy letters are addressed and English language is still accepted. Hope it stays that way. Someone else has said "Really what difference could it possibly make "who" the bank letter is addressed to as long as it is an official letter from the bank.". Really!

  14. The old letter is specifically adressed to "Office Staff of Immigration Police Nakon Ratchasima Province".

The new letter is (more generalized) adressed to "Head/Commander (?) of Immigration Police (Region?) 4".

Head/commander: in Thai it is: ผู้บังคับการ

Dictionaries literally say: person to command; direct; control; govern

"Region" is not written in Thai, just digit 4 appended.

All or most of Isan is region 4, so its a very generalized form and would adress the "head of immigration region 4".

And this is NOT the first report in Thaivisa that I have read about such nitpicking.

For reference I typed both adresses in Thai:

    old: เจ้าหน้าที่สำนักงานตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดนครราชสีมา

    new: ผู้บังคับการตรวจคนเข้าเมือง 4

Thank you for typing it out in Thai for us. Works a little better than my attachments.

I certainly don't read every thaivisa thread, and if this has happened in other regions, I haven't seen it. I tried doing a search, but my search words came up with nothing relevant..

    Thanks again.

  15. There have been recent reports that Korat Immigration now requires bank letters for "money in bank" for extensions to be addressed in a specific way. Indeed this past Monday a friend doing his yearly marriage extension went to his bank in the morning, got the same type of letter he has always received, and proceeded to Korat Immigration. It was busy so he got his "number" and was told to return in the afternoon.

That afternoon as the officer reviewed his papers, when he got to the Bank Letter, my friend was informed that the letter was not addressed correctly and he would have to get another letter from the Bank. The officer wrote in Thai on the letter, how it should be addressed and the officer did apologize and said it was new rules from "the boss". The friend was also told not to come back until the next day with the new letter (busy office) and that he would have to queue again.

Might note that Korat immigration is not located in Korat City, but some 20 to 25 km outside Korat City. And my friend lives another 85 km from Korat City. Yes his Bank is located in Korat City. Oh well.

Anyway, just a forwarning for those doing extensions in Korat. Am also wondering if other immigration offices are doing the same? I do not recall seeing any reports of this on Thaivisa.

Attached are the addressing of the Old and New Bank Letters.

  16. I would just like the locals and any tourists to know that there is now a family run bar and restaurant with beer garden in chiayaphum, serving italian pizza, schnitzel, australian beef steak, and breakfasts. We are hoping to open on the 1st at 9am, open tuesday till sunday, free wi fi and pool table. We have been living in Khonkaen and have just moved to Chiayaphum, it would be good to meet some locals and get some more info on the province. We are next to KTM living mall.

Ok we have decided that tuesday the 9th of september 9am we will be open, we will have an official opening day with a free pig roast & buffet at the end of the month, we would like to meet all the locals and get ideas and suggestions for the bar.hope to see you all next week.

Darn. Sorry I'm going to miss that "official" opening and the pig roast. Love a pig roast. As previously mentioned I will be out of country until mid October. Will look forward to a beer or 3 on my return. Best of luck.

  17. Ok. Made a motorcycle "run" in to Chaiyaphum today. I happen to be coming from the Korat direction and enter Chaiyaphum on the Makro, Big C highway. Indeed the place is pretty much where I thought it was from the earlier picture post from Glegolo. From the "main bus terminal" there is a Honda Shop opposite the terminal. A few buildings down from the Honda Shop (heading out of town) is the big hotel that I mentioned earlier and is on the same side of the street as the Honda shop. Another 1/2 km or so is the PTT Station and then further down on the right hand side you would see the Bar sign earlier posted and then the KTM Mall. At first, I missed the shop sign and the KTM Mall because there was a police road stop right in that area and ended paying attention to the Police stop. Had to do a U Turn and come back, and there it was.

If the opening is not till the 10th, I will miss it as I head to USA on the 11th for just over a month. Anyway, will look forward to getting there on my return.
