  1. A question. A very important question!

I am having a very hard time finding "Pomelo Juice".

Is it just a bring it in once a year thing?

This stuff is so incredibly refreshing and not sweet, the absolute best! In my humble opinion of course.

The only two times I have purchased it it was in "Big C" in the juice isle.........just down from the cooler where they keep the yogurt! whistling.gif

Uhm, not really worth starting a new thread for, so a very weak attempt at tying in the yogurt thing.

    Mod's.......... how'd I do?

Please don't spank me, hard.... I'm new here!

You know, I have been in Thailand a number of years and have never tried pomelo 'juice'. I love pomelo so I will definitely give it a go. Please let us know if you find any here in the Rai.

  2. Seeing as the previous post mentioned CM, I assumed that it would

be ok to comment about it.

Obviously not. Although I didn't think commenting about a thread in a

different sub-forum was against the rules.

Think I'll stick to something safe like yogurt.

Yogurt is good for you too.thumbsup.gif

As long as it is CHIANG RAI yogurt ! ! !

  3. There is a Seiko dealership in Kad Suan Kao, the shopping centre next to Ram hospital in Chiang Ma. Second floor from memory at the front of the building.

Let me see . . . maybe 100 baht for a battery and more than 500 baht for fuel to drive to Chiang Mai and return. Yup . . . sounds like a good idea!

  4. That is sad and funny at the same time. Maybe you need a simpler, foolproof camera.smile.png The finished product may not be as good but at least you will get the shot.wink.png Good attitude and better luck next time. Thanks for sharing.smile.png We will still be here when you finally get the shot.

The only feature missing on my camera is the one that plays a recording when you pick it up that says something to the effect, "Hey stupid, are you forgetting something?" In all seriousness, my camera will work fine as a simple point and shoot whenever I choose it just doesn't help my poor memory.

But, I will try again one day soon. When I do, I will post the results.

  5. What's with this haze we are having? Things were really beautiful there for a while and then this stuff.sad.pngbah.gif

I noticed earlier today. I thought someone was burning again (and they probably are!). I am planning to take my bike (the motorized type) into the hills tomorrow to explore a little and was hoping the air would be clear and fresh. Keeping my fingers crossed that things improve tonight.

    Take pictures.biggrin.png

Hey VF, I made it up to Nanglae Falls this AM and the ride up there on my motorcycle was quite beautiful! When I got there I walked around looking for the best vantage point to take some photos of the falls (I say 'falls' but it is really not much more than a place where water rushes slightly downhill between some wonderful rock formations). Found the right spot. Took out my tripod and got it set and leveled. Set my Lee filter holder on the lens. Now I am ready to take the photos . . . except

. . . my CF card is back on my desk at home angry.pngmad.gifcrying.gif . Talk about feeling like a horses backside!

Anyway, it was a nice trip and now I have an excuse for going back again . . . with my complete camera equipment! ! ! ! ! !

  7. It can be like watching a movie as the view changes from moment to moment.

Yes, the skies are quite remarkable. I really like the deep blues of your skies. Keep sending these wonderful shots and we will continue to enjoy them!

  8. Wow! It is difficult for me to understand the level of animosity leveled at Walen school in this thread!!! Aren't people free to pursue business opportunities in Thailand? I could understand if the business was one that infringed on the freedom of others such as human trafficking but this is a school! There are many foreigners in Thailand who make a living by teaching foreign languages.

Basically, No. People aren't free to pursue business opportunities in Thailand. If you have spent more than a year or so here, you would know that. A high percentage of the foreigners teaching have been working without the proper paperwork. You need a work permit to get a visa, but you need a visa to get a work permit. A lot of us still remember, when CM Immigration pulled the plug on all visas from the CMU Language Institute. That included a lot of people, who were paying to volunteer, which incidentally, you also need a work permit for.

Walen appears to be legit., but things can change quickly around here.

Thighlander, actually I have been in Thailand for a number of years already and my understanding is that foreigners are free to pursue business opportunities within the prescribed laws of this land. That means, national partners and proper governmental compliance. However, should I choose to comply with these requirements, I am free to start a school, restaurant, or numerous other businesses.

Thighlander, you are correct that one needs the correct visas to do work or voluntary work here in Thailand. My point was that we need to be tolerant of those who choose to enter into business here in Thailand or anywhere for that matter. Let's encourage one another rather than offering derogatory opinions.

I could understand if the business was one that infringed on the freedom of others such as human trafficking but this is a school! There are many foreigners in Thailand who make a living by teaching foreign languages. That's the beauty of free enterprise, we all have opportunities to engage in commerce. Some choose to open restaurants, others bars, others coffee shops or bakeries.

Should we invalidate Walen school because their teaching approach does not agree with our own? I would hope not! Is conversation the only way to learn a language? I for one, am a visual learner. I need to see words written out so that I can have a visual picture and in so doing, I will remember that word in association to the visual image. For me, conversation is the end product of visual learning. I for one, do not learn well in a conversational teaching style.

In the end, students will get out of a class what they are willing to invest. If one invests solely for a visa, so be it! If one invests to truly learn the language, then in the end they will. If one finds that the teaching style of a particular school is not suited to their learning style then they are free to pursue learning at a different school.

Why can't we all just be a little more tolerant, a little more understanding and neighborly. Who of us is qualified to judge the intentions or the heart of another? I for one, wish Walen school great success. If they are successful, it means that others are learning language and still others are gainfully employed. I also wish each and every language school in CR great success. In the end, the schools that deliver the best products and service will survive. That's the beauty of free enterprise.

I gladly welcome any CONSTRUCTIVE reviews of any of the language schools from a first person basis with real of what was good and what needed improving. But third hand opinions and innuendo are not really productive. Remember, opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one. But give others facts and all can benefit.

  10. Just a thought but its possible that the university uses the same fibre optic connection for all of the students there ? Does the service decrease in school hours ?

Not really sure. Trying to get good info from the kids that work in the sales offices is an exercise in futility. You raise a good point however.

It appears that CAT is not a popular service with our TV readers. I guess I will try the broadband to start and if response time is poor I can try upgrading and hope that, at some reasonable cost, I can get acceptable response times.

Sunholidaysun1, thank you for your reply. Hopefully I will have a good report in about a weeks time. Fingers crossed!!!!!

Live in the area, have had, TOT, CAT, now have 3BB=happy with so far.

Sounds like you hit all the major players! Does this mean that you were not happy with CAT? Unfortunately, 3BBB is not an option in this particular location.

  11. Hi , Yes I have CAT, Where I live There were no telephone lines when I moved here .So I started with a cat dongle and upgraded every time CAT had somthing new. now have a microwave link, (small dish aprox 20 cm dia on a thin 10 m pole aimed at the nearest cat tower about 6 km away). Was ofered a choice of speeds and prices chose one on special offer by no meens the fastested 7.5 mb@631bhat inc vat per month bandwidth test show it meet its promise but of course never get that on a download ,however it is quite fast and I can stream video and tv. aerial cost 8000 with the pole and router with 4 outlets all used and wi fi .I would recomed this

Hi derekwyoung. Thank you for the information. I feel a little more comfortable with my decision now. Unfortunately, I will not know how well it works for a couple more weeks yet since there seems to be a lengthy queue for installation.

  13. 7mbps being faster than the 20mbps is possible although I wouldn't have thought that likely if the 20mbs is fibre optic however, if there is one thing Thai internet companies are good at it, it is over-selling and over-loading connections.

I use TOT fibre optic and whilst I can't categorically state that I always get what I pay for, it does seem to be virtually always capable of delivering whatever I ask of it.

Thank you for your reply Paul888. This is what I am afraid of, that CAT must really be over-loading their fiber-optic network if a 20Mbps fiber optic line has worse response than a 7Mbps broadband line! Somehow it is hard to image that a 1,500 baht per month fiber optic subscription could be that overloaded. I could understand if it was maybe 500 baht per month.

Anyway, I hope maybe some TV'ers have some experience with the CAT network here in CR.

  14. I am moving North of the city in the area of Mae Fa Luang Uni and will be looking for a "good" internet service. Sounds like my choices are TOT with what appears to be a slow line speed or CAT with either broadband or fiber-optic lines. So it looks like CAT is the only really viable option. So my question is this, does anyone have experience with either the CAT broadband (regular or premier service) or with their fiber-optic service? The girl at the mall was trying to convince me that the broadband premier service with 7Mbps download speed was actually faster than the fiber-optic service with a 20Mbps download speed due to the high usage of the latter!!!

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

  15. We just lost our biggest tree. Luckily it missed the house. Big wind but little rain.

    375091_10201219651676458_2132764966_n.jp

VF, sorry to see this! I know what it is like to lose a beautiful tree that makes your home look so nice and provide shade and beautify to your place. There is consolation in that it fell AWAY from the house as its final act of service to you.
