I'd also like to know about:
1. concrete pools....is there a problem with them...do they start to look naff? How do you make the very smooth finish sometimes seen on concrete? It seems concrete only would bring the price down a lot...why isn't it done?
2. saline pools....I hate chlorine...what are the benefits/defects of saline?
By the way I've heard of a decent size pool being built for 300kBaht
thanx a lot

I live outside Chiangmai..there are ten little houses in a big forest garden.
EVERYONE has mould problems in the Rainy season. It can mess up your clothes so keep a fan on, it helps. Apart from that...no big deal....wipe it off sometimes to keep the spores from swamping you and just wait for the dry weather. I have not noticed any health problems at all.

You'd better listen to Neeranam very closely. I have a similar experience. Two years bit by bit withdrawal. i know what unpleasant is, having had the DTs several times.
Instead of jumping to a pill bottle, balance the "nuisance" of making some non-medicinal effort to sleep to being addicted for the rest of your life. Addiction is a serious business. You must realise that both alcohol and soporifics/anxiolytics, after a few hours of having an effect, will cause a rebound, and you will feel more anxious/awake than you did in the first place. There is no such thing as a free medicinal lunch. A vicious circle that you're better off staying out of.
I suggest:
Modest or much better still no drinking.
Lots of exercise as late as possible, maybe teatime.
Meditation.
A balanced healthy and ethical life.
If after a LOT of effort...and i mean a campaign.....you have no joy, you might consider a very moderate dose of a trycyclic antidepressant. They aid sleep and not just to get you to drop off but to extend it. They are well understood.
Powdered kava root is another alternative that will help, but I feel the best route is to look for the root of the problem.
Good luck

FYI at Chiangmai you can report from a week before to a week after the exact date. (BTW I would call that 5 days). I once went ten days late and they asked for 2000bt, 200 a day.... I said hey I'm only three days after the extra week they said "doesn't matter". I came to an "accomodation" and paid half.

Also if you hear someone referring to you as "mun" smack them in the mouth of they're small and weak looking. This happened to me in a row over a car rental where we were both explaining to a policeman. But as far as I'm concerned "mun" is fishwife talk.

I occasionally meet a northern princess in Chiangmai. I also often hear my Thai friend talk to her on the phone. One simply uses "Jao" as the title and for instance when getting her attention one would simply say Jao, when she is being talked about it's Jao. Sorry don't have Thai font but Jor Jahn sara Ao

As well as the bomb that went off at Sonthi's office recently, last night a device was exploded near the venue airing Sonthi's broadcast last night in Chiangmai. Intimidation? Police said it may have been a firecracker. The truth remains to be seen.

While we're trying to stop bombers....who bombed Sonthi, the well known Thaksin critic, at his office recently and LAST NIGHT near the office where his broadcast last night was made(You heard it here first)?

"Regarding Karma, are our thoughts connected with making merit and do bad thoughts have an effect on our Karma."
In Buddhism, thoughts are, in fact, actions.
One of your repliers was quite right in saying that it's intention that counts.
Any actions you now do should be done not with a goal of improving your lot, but with only selfless intentions.
Ritualised practices such as you are suggesting are not absolutely necessary, and can be ignored by some, but the fact is that ritual, ritual worship for example, can affect us in very subtle ways, as we are complicated human beings.
Tzu Yen in China walked an unbearable distance across China and out of it I believe prostrating himself every third step because he felt he'd upset his parents by running away to become a monk. He later became fully enlightened and lived to 120. Good luck.

Dear anyone....Noticed the post below.
I'd be happy enough with just these channels.
I live in Chiangmai and can get a dynasat dish and box. I can buy new or in fact have a friend who doesn't use his...maybe available.
How do I go about getting the channels? Does it have to be cracked? Could I just subscribe?
cheers Sleepyjohn
