Yes, I suppose it is. But is it any different to say, going to the bank for a loan and the loan officer says no, then you pay your accountant to meet with the bank manager, who then says yes.
Is your accountant giving the bank manager a bribe?

Its a legal extension approved by an immigration officer. Its probably not fair that the general public doesn't have access to the high ranking officer, but not really illegal.
Where are the reports of cracking down ?
You've just described corruption at its finest! ?

I have yet to see any legal text which describes how the OP's activity violates the terms of Tourist Visa use as written. If he were working-illegally or similar - then, yes.
For Visa-Exempt, it would depend how the Ministerial Order limiting their use was interpreted. Fortunately, after the "2x by land" Visa-Exempt rule went into effect, most land-borders simply started following this, instead of the unclear other provisions. Poipet is the exception, but they hassle those with Non-O Multiples and Tourist Visas as well, so nothing can be assumed at that entry-point.My point was it's up to the IO.
Multiple exempts and tourist visas over many years will look like he's not a tourist, rather someone living here.
Legally, the OP is using existing laws to live here.
I think he is stretching the definition of tourist and some IO will take exception to it eventually.
(which is what happened)

I don’t understand if you’re a US citizen you don’t need a visa. Maybe I missed something...
from https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/thai-visas-americans/
U.S. citizens carrying a tourist passport and in possession of an onward or return airline ticket do not require a visa to enter Thailand. The passport must have at least six months validity remaining to be allowed entry. Upon entry, Thai immigration officials will place an immigration stamp in the passport permitting a 30-day stay in Thailand if arriving by air or land. This time limit may subsequently be extended for an additional 30 days by paying a 1,900 baht fee to the Thai Immigration Bureau office
I don't think you understand the thread. You're suggesting a 60 day solution while OP has been living here for years off and on.

There is nothing that says you can not have unlimited tourist visas in a year.
Until an IO says "enough is enough" this guy isn't a tourist.
You're using loopholes to live here, not the intent of a Tourist Visa at all.

You can get a visa on either side of the Mekong river, the Friendship Bridge to Laos (Vientiane). It was 1 $ for either day in 2014. And you can return the same day you left. But better take a Thai with you, someone that guarantees you're not going to sleep under the skies of Laos.
There's not a single truth in this post.

Your original post said you are working/living in Mae Sot.
You've been here illegally for this long, just continue the way you are as rules don't seem to apply to you.

Speak for yourself.
The weather here is more or less the same as where I'm from. The women are on average definitely better where I came from.
Rent can be cheaper here, or the same out of pocket cost, but for much more space. Overall cost of living is similar though once you factor in all monthly costs.
All monthly costs?
My entire monthly budget, rent, utilities, food, beer, petrol everything is the same here for a 3 bedroom townhouse than I paid just in rent for a basement suite in Vancouver.

Anyone who thinks the weather in Thailand is “decent”, has a few screws loose. Rain every day for 7 months isn’t what I call decent. Especially when coupled with high temperatures over 80 degrees F.
I'd suggest a lot of members don't even know what degrees F are anymore. When someone tells me 80F, I haven't a clue.

The last 2 times I applied for a new Canadian passport I had the new one back in less than 2 1/2 weeks. Should have applied for a new passport earlier.
Agreed. Mine took about two weeks as well.

A pen. sorry to be stupidly simple but my last trip I forgot my pen.
If you need them, reading glasses.
Maybe a good book.
If in no rush, I like dropping my papers off on a Friday and collecting on a Monday. So dead at the embassy. Takes the weekend hanging out in Vientiane but no one there. It's a lot more relaxing.

Did the OP mention this guy was Thai?
Too funny. Everyone is assuming the recipient was Thai. I've lent a couple of Thai friends money and have always gotten it back. There's a farang hanging in my neck of the woods who owes thousands to other farang. No one is hopeful they'll get the return of their money.

Why would teaching English be considered beneficial to the country when English is not even an official languge in Thailand,
if you say trade benefits then Chinese would certainly be benefical as a language as that is the future
The Chinese tourists coming to Thailand communicate with English. It's the language of travel.
Absolutely a benefit for the country.

People deserve their cancer. If they had spent more on their food than on their mobile, they could still be alive.
Outrageously insulting.
Blaming people for getting cancer is disgusting, insulting, and disgraceful.
I've had it twice and have had a decent, well balanced diet all my life.
I didn't get a mobile phone until 5 years after cancer treatment so that has zero to do with it.
Growing up overseas I learnt how to make most foods from scratch and have always cooked with a minimum of processed foods.
You owe cancer survivors an apology
ps I've been alive 11 years since treatment and am still alive.
The next thing I'd say to you would get me a suspension.

so now we now know that it is some kind of rubbish law we dont kneed it wont work can not be implemented and should be scraped as should the Thai driving license a uk license should bee all you need as it use to be but now even a international license is not a license in Thailand as it is for the police to make money from any one they want to rip off 400 baht no hat no license no bike papers no tax or any thing else they feel they can get you for. my neighbour gets it for having a 3 wheeled bike salink he takes dogs to get treatment in a cage 400 baht its just ruining the city of pattaya
Not many countries in the world allow you to drive on a foreign license for more than 3 months. Once you hit 3 months you must get a local license. Worldwide for the most part.
Why do you think it's a scam to require you to have registration, crash hat, insurance, and proper bike papers? You should be above the law? I agree the TM30 requirement is BS but the others you stated are normal.

yes, and for sure computers and databases are connected in Thailand hahahaha
Anyway, I never stays in hotels alone and I never give my name or passport, I hate doing checking and I always have slaves who do it for me ❤️
I got checked at immigration because the hotels and guesthouses do get the info to them computer databases connected or not.
Some areas are getting retentive about it, if your area isn't great, but don't call bs on those who live in areas where crackdowns are indeed occurring.
Never give a name or a passport at hotel? Doubtful.
Slaves? Seriously flawed terminology.

How would they know that you have been somewhere for a night ? Totally stupid them.
Because the guesthouse you spend the night in is obligated to report you. Totally smart them.

Chiang Rai Immigration is getting real snotty about this.
It's not just out of country visits, it's anytime you are registered at another place even for a night they want a new report. If I decide I've had a little much and shouldn't ride my scooter so guesthouse it for an evening I've got to get the landlord to report me again.
This is all pointless. Bad for the expats, but also an inconvenience for our landlords and a drag for immigration.
Stop this nonsense.

Oh my are you helpless?
Any photo shop with signs saying "passport photos" will probably do a passport photo.
You don't need anything from your hotel.

no i wasn't denied. As i said it was several years ago and at the time only the 7 day option was available, like 2008 I think I did this. I just needed a short extension to line up with my flight changes. I was just giving an example of how easy it was to have the visa company do it. If one has time and wants to go to Jomtien, yes of course go there in person and do the paperwork for the 30 day. I was not recommending doing a 7 day, but obviously people read in what they want
A 30 day extension, with a simple form and one passport photo has been available for a long time. Far longer than 2008.
Someone told you bs info.
What you've demonstrated is how easy it is for visa companies to rip farangs off.

A few years back I got a 7 day extension using Key Visa I think. It was just easy to let them go do it. I am told immigration is a bit picky these days and really expects to see the applicant in person. Seems to me a properly authorized agent with notary or whatever Thailand uses could do it. I defer to the experts
I'm sorry but using an agent for 7 days seems silly. Fill in one piece of paper, attach a photo, pay 1900 baht equals 30 day extension. You probably paid three times that for 15 minutes work.

How could the Australian embassy possibly help you getting an extension in Thailand?

Twice the money as an extension is 1900 baht.

Go to immigration and get an extension of stay for 30 days. You'll need a passport photo and fill out a form and pay 1900 baht. Simple. Don't do the 7 days overstay, that will cost 3500 baht.

Think twice before eating beef in Thailand

I don't buy beef often in Thailand, but I find you can get a decent tasting cut at Makro, Big C, or Tops most of the time.
