The heavier the restrictions, the more effective in stopping the spread.

I hate that its hard to see my parents or to do anything fun in Thailand right now. I am not super scared of the virus but I am scared of what will happen if the numbers get too high for the hospitals to cope with. We have seen Italy, Brazil, India all get far higher death rates because they could not help everyone.
That is what a lockdown is for to slow the spread so the virus. Lockdowns are used in all the countries in the world. So for those that doubt do you think everyone is wrong and you are right.
Maybe more a bit of wanting something so much. I understand a lot of expats are retired and came here for fun and now there is no fun. Being locked up in a small condo nothing much to do. Not fun at all. I get that does not make the points of a lockdown less valid.
You have a lot of time to read during your lockdown

This is a must read about the censorship of lockdown science. No matter which side of the fence you fall on, I feel this helps people understand what has actually happened when it comes to covid, lockdowns and science.
The main problem, we’ll elucidated in the article, is scientists have been censored and their careers threatened, so you really only get to hear one side of this argument. And it is the wrong side at that.

You do understand people were dying of these things long before Covid too? They still would be in the absence of lockdown, surrounded by people (friends and relatives) getting sick and dying in large numbers and unable to get treatment in bursting at the seams medical facilities. It may even exacerbate the numbers.
Seriously man. Inform yourself. You can go down the line. Those number btw, far outweigh covid numbers, even in a single issue like drug overdoses. So imagine depression, abuse, undiagnosed cancer…

So you don’t like lockdowns, we get it.
Bottom line: restrictions can hold virus spreading in check until vaccination is available.
But Thai people are not restricted. Go to a market.
I actually agree with you. If you can do a bars on doors and windows four week shut in, China style, that would work. How can you possibly think anything short of that will work? One person started all of this. You can look at infection curves, they don’t just drop off when countries went into lockdowns, they peak and taper naturally.

Many countries have gone into lockdown, take Malaysia for example and now many more including Thailand are instituting such actions. If your not happy and want it all opened up, then I would suggest you find someplace that would be more amenable to you and quickly before even international travel gets shuttered again. Oh dear, now I have done it, i joined the if you don't like it here leave crowd, damnit I hate when i fall into the trap.
Great, so now your argument is “other countries did it” (so lockdowns must work, I presume is your stance).
As long as Malaysia is doing it, then it must work.
You do understand people die from depression, drug and substance abuse, domestic violence and god knows what else during these lockdowns right? I mean I just assume people know this stuff by now.
Read it again: lockdown is covid PLUS all the negative effects of a lockdown. No lockdown, at least people are able to work and survive and not die or all the things discussed above. You don’t half ass a lockdown and have it be effective.

Flood damage, major crashes, all easy to spot.
And many people might have got caught up in the Covid masquerade and lost their source of income.
I look at a lot of used cars, and this is the story I am told often.
Is it true ? Unknown.
Are the cars in like-new condition - yes
Apart from the original buyer eating the depreciation.
Where exactly do you look at cars like this? Thanks

Now what is probably rightfully happening in the mind of Thais is, well waiting for a shot other than sinovac would have been a good move. It promotes procrastination.

Highly contagious Delta variant means people should avoid any unnecessary contact . They should use their phones instead to order food , medicines etc .
If there is no delivery service yet , need to set up one as soon as possible .
Why do we have the delta variant? Border are closed. It proves border closure does nothing. So, open the borders.
What Thailand is doing is worst of all worlds. They have the virus running rampant, which it will do no matter what, and they are starving and restricting their own people.

What about walking the dog? Surely that poses no risk.
The problem with lockdowns is they will not work unless you have 100% commitment to them. This not even close to the case in Thailand.
Because you have less people out and about doesn’t matter. Infections will occur and those infections get brought back home to family members.
Open everything and focus 100% on vaccination efforts.

Don’t send a single vial out until your own population is vaxxed.
Vaccination is the one and only tool we have that is proven to work against this virus. When that sinks in with people and they understand that statement, I think they will ramp up vaccine efforts. Hopefully soon.
Open everything IMO because that will get the Thai govt 100% focused on vaxxing their population, and to stop wasting time on utterly useless and resource wasting policies.

computer chips implanted w/infusions of feel good chemicals? better food? better entertainment? Or are we doomed and no way do we exist?
yes computers will be better, but the only “advantage” we get from that is being able to watch more ads during browsing. Faster computer are just better advertising machines.
Food will get worse. That’s obvious. Chemical engineering, more processed foods.
It’s actually much more likely we get worse in many areas. Look at covid as the perfect example,

When YouTube channels get this big, I think there is a really big problem. You essentially have a foreign worker, obviously working in Thailand, with no work permit. I think if when Thais realize exactly how this works, this will end. Enforcement is so easy, there is no way to hide for these big channels.

If you think infections will be the same more or less if Thailand is open then it really shows just how out of touch you are to covid-19 and the delta strain
If closed borders actually helped, why do we even have the delta strain?
The answer is, they don’t help. They would help, if it was a 100% perfectly closed border. Just like a (unattainable) 100% perfect lock down would work.
I am honestly surprised halfway intelligent people can walk through a Thai market and even consider these regulations can be effective. All these regulations are useless. They are half ass.
The only effective tool we have are vaccines. Open everything.
As for the rest of it, fool yourself all you want. None of those regulations helped. https://academic.oup.com/cesifo/advance-article/doi/10.1093/cesifo/ifab003/6199605

24 minutes ago, Bkk Brian said:You missed the point, open everything. What are you going to do with the overflowing hospitals, no ICU's available, no ventilators, 100's of deaths if not 1000's daily. Economy shattered, far worse than it already is.
Open everything, yea great idea.
You missed. A out of infections will be the same more or less. Why do you assume more when open?
The main point however, because I know I won’t convince you of the obvious infection rate curves (they don’t just drop to 0 when countries lockdown, do they), is…
the one and only effective tool we have right now is vaccines. That’s is. There is no other tool short of barring people’s doors for three weeks, which only places like China can pull off.
So, vaccine is the only tool available. That should be the one and only focus. All time and resources should go to that.

3 hours ago, ThailandRyan said:Unfortunately there is no more room at the inn if they open up everything. Hospitals, Field Hospitals and Hospitels are filled while many folks are still waiting at home for a bed to be put in so they can be treated. Just saw another family of 6 from Myanmar who are stuck in their residence as they can not find a treatment location and have been waiting for almost a month. ICU's are filled with over 3k, and over 800 are on ventilators, opening up will exacerbate the situation and is not what this government wants. Getting vaccines in hand will still take over 2 months after they arrive to get them into peoples arms, and therein lies the issue. No Room and an Overwhelmed and overtaxed Medical community. So tell us more about how you see it playing out.
And what do you think is happening while all these people “wait at home” in close quarters? You are describing the ideal conditions for the vaccine to spread with your own argument.
Open everything.

Isn’t that the one that has to be kept super cold?
I would not be surprised if Thais put it in a normal refrigerator, assuming that that was ok lol
I seriously would not take the one that has those strict temp protocols here. Was it manufactured here?

If you open everything, they will be motivated to do just that.
It’s the same as if you have rent and food to pay you are motivated to make money.
Open everything. That will force them to focus efforts on vaccinations.

Should just open everything. Current policy is worst of all worlds.
what does closing the border do?! Covid is in the country. If that had any positive effect, we would not have the delta variant, now would we? So open borders.
Open everything. People realize it is serious. Of course maybe waiting until deaths taper a bit could be a smart move, I just contend there is no difference. Open, closed, curfew, no curfew… the same number of people will be infected in the end. Any positive effects lockdowns have is negated by the negative effects the lockdown has on the population.

Stay home measure imposed by CCSA as COVID-19 pandemic worsens in Thailand

That first article actually lets you know WHY you can find any point of view.
Read it.
I also believe that if you think lockdowns work… lockdown! Stay in your house. Grab is cheap. Let the rest of us live our lives. If we can agree on that we can be friends lol
You also don’t seem to understand, I am not saying lockdowns don’t work. I am saying they are detrimental. Meaning, they kill more people.
