  1. I dont want to be inappropriate on the wrong day.

Can someone point me to a Calendar of important days during the month of October?

Or list the days and its significance?

And what services (government type lol) will be and will not be available?

    Thanks.

  2. Thanks ubj, evj.

My extension to stay is dated for July 2017.  I'll see if the school willing let me terminate my extension of stay until Sunday, and only cancel my work permit. They have been nice so far.

Thanks for the heads up on  Savannakhet, Loas.  I've never considered it but will now :D

Also thanks for letting me know about the letter from the school for exiting TL.

Your help, as always is much appreciated! :jap:

  3. Hi my school will soon cancel my visa and WP on a Friday,

but visa run to get a Tourist visa leaves on Sundays.

That means i will incur a 2 day overstay.

    1) Will that be a problem?

    2) Any chance of being blacklisted because of the 2 day overstay?

    3) Any other potential issues with getting a tourist visa from Vientaine or Penang?

    4) Any other places better than the two above (i normally go to these) that is a better alternative?

    Thanks in advance

  4. There are plenty of Ferrys from BanPae. But the speedboad operators will try to get you to go. At least 2 ferry boats to VongDuen beach. one from the Malibu Resorts (70 baht) and one from Vong Duen Resort (70 baht). You will pay a 200baht fee upon arriving for the entrance into the park. Do keep your ticket.

There are several boats making the ferry run into the Somet main pier for 50baht. Generally they leave on the hour. till 5 PM or so. From the main pier, if you wan to go to a different beach, you can share a taxi for about 50baht each (plus the 200 entrance fee), If you get a private taxi, its 300 baht for the taxi, and you can split that between your and your friends. If you're alone, you have to foot the entire 300.

As always negotiate your taxi rate prior to getting in. There are no metered taxis on the island. Motorbikes are about 300/day. The park at the southern tip of the island has some great snorkeling. You can rent snorkels there at the range hut. Theres food, beer, and snacks also. but being able the rent the snorkels there is a nice feature.

Almost no nightlife except silver sands, reggae bar, and the fight bar ( i dont know what its called but it has fight ring at the north end.) and a couple of others.

Generally I found the crowded places like the north east, expensive and smelly. I wouldn't get in the water in the northeast of the island. But from Ao Nan and south, the water is fine, and gets better the more you go south.

I saw little effects of the spill from a few years back, the east side was never touched at all.

I love the walk from sai kaew beach to the southern tip. most of the time along the beach.

Stay south of Ao Nan and you'll be fine.

    Enjoy.

  5. The question is not how to catch them, I have numerous traps set up throughout the house and catch plenty of them, but how to keep them out.Look at the other thread in this forum where I posted a picture of my catch.Once they are inside the house you can't catch them all, and at the same time they lay eggs and multiply inside, so I need to find a remedy to prevent them entering through the insect screen

    Have you tried this?

PS Put a small hole in the cap and screw it back on, prior to inverting.

The uncapped opening is too big and the flies will just fly back out.

  6. Everything went well except on the return, Thai immigration wanted to see 20Kbaht in cash. I was coming in with a tourist visa from Penang. I showed 20K and had no problems. Others that did not have the cash did have problems. Currently I would not try to return without 20Kbaht.

    Save yourself some headaches.

    Just an FYI

Shipping a bike from Lampang to Surat.

Wanted to bring my click with me. yes i could have sold it and bought one in surat but whats the fun it that? 555 There is a lot of confusion out there, both in TV and in RL. This is what i found

    1) Post Office. 3200baht shipping, 220 packing, 7 days for shipping, need greenbook and passport for pickup.

    2) Nimseesing. 3200bahd shipping, 500 packing, 4 days for shipping. they implied to your shipping address. Did not specify needing passport or greenbook for delivery, but i assume so.

    3) Green Bus - (the only direct bus from Lampang to Surat) They assured me they could do it. Website states 10baht/kilo making the shipping about 1020baht. Catch - you have to ship it from the bus originating point. Meaning I would first have to ride my bike to CM to ship. Second catch - looking at the cargo hold, it does not look like it will fit upright, on its wheels. I just see a clusterf*ck of a situation when i show up with the bike.

    4) Train - 814baht for the bike, and 724baht for me in a second class sleeper to bkk. Repeat for bkk to surat. SOLD. They asked for my passport and greenbook as documentation.

#1 is the least risk method i thought initially. But i wanted to travel with my bike so i opted for option 4. I must say this was one of the best road trips EVER!

    On traveling day,

a)I went to the train station at noon, bought my sleeper ticket. (When buying the ticket, make sure they understand that you will want to transport your motorbike on the same train. They will then tell you which trains are available. I get the feeling not all trains can accommodate Motorbikes.)

cool.png.pagespeed.ce.jz1nB6CMOIVslCCv-1 then went to the shipping office and arranged for space to be available for my bike. I showed them my sleeper ticket and that i wanted to ship my bike on the same train. She had received a call from the ticket agent and was warned. She asked for my greenbook, which i brought with me. She then said that she would call CM and make sure there is space for my bike on that train. I was to arrive 1 hr early.

    c) Arrived one hr early, she took the info, filled out a shipping form, charged me 814baht and took the bike. Done.

    d) Arrived in bkk, took the bike from the unloader. was told to take it to near Track 10 to a "scales" booth for shipping arrangements to Surat. (it was easy to find)

    e) At the booth, the guy told me to get a ticket to Surat, then come back for the shipping arrangements. PS, There were MULTIPLE bikes near the booth staged to be shipped in the the same manor to different destinations.

    f) Got my ticket, Told the agent that i was taking my motorbike with me (same situation as in Lampang), She the told me the list of trains I could take. Chose the one that arrived at 8AM, (another sleeper).

    g) Got to Lampang Easy Peasy! ONE of the BEST ROAD TRIPs EVER!

i'm only describing the transporting of the bike. It took 4 days of multiple trips from Lampang to CM and asking everyone in both cities how to transport my bike. Of course, if i spoke Thai, this would probably been MUCH EASIER! but wheres the fun in that? 55555

Last note, the train took about 15 hrs longer than a direct route by bus, but the Sleeper Train is SO much more comfortable! They even has an outlet to charge your mobile or plug in your laptop. (PS take a 2 prong power strip with you on the train. those outlets are pretty popular!)

The train is highly recommended, if you can absorb the travel time, and its limited destination options.

Just an FYI and have fun on your travels in Thailand! smile.png.pagespeed.ce.CwSpBGGvqNPM4cy2e

  8. Dont carry a knife (as self defense or any other reason). I dont know what the issue is.

Some place have restriction on blade length, some dont. I think i recall that all blades were banned after 9/11 airport loading. Now i believe some blade lengths are allowed. But i will check the rules for banned items before my next flight.

So you're in Thailand. the rules in your host country do not necessarily apply. Know what the rules. are.

The person speaking sounds thai. If she is thai, she has NO excuse.

There are plenty of things you can criticize the Thai police for. This stop isnt one of them.

    Just my 2 cents

  9. of course it can be brought if you skip the Iranian caviar and the Cuban cigars.

    Skip the caviar, of course!

    but skip the habanos!??blink.png

W T F!!??? Are you crazy? I might as well give up air!burp.gif

(everyone has their own priorities! cool.png )

PS I do love living cheaply in TL! Its a sport to see what kind of deal you can get on various items!

Enjoy and have a safe and happy holiday!thumbsup.gif
