  1. "Direct Marketing" is what i recall companies like Amway being called.

the previous posts have said it all.

    just a handful make money.

a few will make lots of money.

    most, almost all,will lose money.

  2. you married into the wrong family.....

I understand the comment, Father in law is a piece of work for sure. Regardless, My wife is a treasure and the best decision I have made in life. Living on the land she inherited is a separate issue, and it comes with challenges such as the OP.

    Very nicely stated.

While i believe your family does not need defending from the comment,

your response was very nicely done!!

  3. When government starts controlling the wearing of skivvies, we really need to find them more to do..

    Seriously.........

plus its too hot to wear skivvies in TL. The "boys" need to hang free to stay cool. The production of the "swimmers" are affected by high body temps, so l say, "SET THEM FREE"! :)

  4. ....

Lets not forget the high rollers in town, a big Chang with a straw and go for a perv up and down WS.

Oh yes! I saw one while I was perving perambulating down Soi 6 the other day. Shades tipped back on his head, scoping the tarts languidly while sipping his CAN of Chang through a long straw. Dead hansum he was.

Something i just cant get use to here in TL. Drinking beer thru a straw! <deleted>???? its all foam! How can one drink that swill?

  5. Two places around Asok come to mind: The Black Swan (directly underneath the BTS) and The Crossbar (small soi north of cowboy between Asok & Soi 23). Black Swan has a few malts, but very pricey. Crossbar used to have Laphroaig at 150 baht, which is an ok price. It's been a couple of years since I was there though, so price may have gone up. There is also a bar on Suk 11 that has single malts, but I forget the name. Crossbar probably has the best atmosphere of those three, and the biggest selection.

I've found the Supermarket on the ground floor of the Paragon to have the best selection. Really expenisve though, as is all good booze in Thailand.

If you are ever over in Cambodia, Laphroaig 10yr is $23 a bottle and Talisker 10yr is about $30. About a third of the price you'll pay here.

    D'oh!!!

Now you tell me. I just did a visa run to Cambodia 3 days ago!!! blink.png

    Thanks for the heads-up tho.

  6. I dont have good news.

i'm sure there's scotch in the higher priced tourists hotels,

but anything reasonable i haven't found yet.

    Khaosan Road,

one place had MaCallan , 12 and 18 for bh450 and bh600 respectively

The 18 was a brand new bottle and i was starved for a single malt, so i opted for that.

It tasted so good, that i had another, especially since the first glass was a double pour.

A second place had Livet. it was bh150. and THAT was too much because not only was it watered down, but it wasnt even scotch!!!. Still , i had a couple of glasses. At least it was a relatively cheap ripoff.

    Koh Somet

The resort on the west side has fiddich for bh350. Brand new bottle and tasted genuine. They also advertised cuban cigs. I would kill for a siglo VI but i opted not to check out their humidor. Maybe later i'll post a review.

    Rayong

I hear the Marriott has single malt in the hotel bar. I cannot verify.

    Marko (?)

Marko, if i remember the name right, is the Thai bulk style grocery store. I saw both GlenLivet and Glenfiddich for around bh2000 blink.png for the fifth.

and a member of FOL (friends of Laphroaig)

If you find any sources, I'd appreciate a heads up.

Esp if you find some Laphroaig or Lagavulin

    Good luck hunting.

PS i'm trying to get use to the taste of "blend 285"sick.gif

at bh300 for the bottlew00t.gif , its worth trying to get use too.

I dont have much hope tho.

(with coke, its not horrible, but i try to drink all whiskey neat)

  7. "Dozens of Countries Aided US Secret Detentions: Report

WASHINGTON, February 6 (RIA Novosti) – As many as 54 governments throughout the world assisted the United States in its secret detention and rendition operations in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a new human rights report released Tuesday."

    Good to hear!

  8. I found this interesting so i thought I'd share.

Thailand tourism is like an easy date

By Ken Scott, PATA Thailand Chapter | Feb 01, 2013

Keynote speakers in the PATA Thailand Chapter debate January 30 in Bangkok, Thailand, is a like a cunning cheerleader, a good looker, an easy date who cheats at her exams and gossips about her friends, but is perpetually popular despite her shortcomings.

Thai tourism authorities are "marketing geniuses but management dunces."

These were just a few of the claims made by outspoken but respected journalists, both Thai. They were the keynote speakers in the PATA Thailand Chapter debate January 30 in Bangkok entitled, "Is Thai Culture Good or Bad for the Development of Thailand's Tourism Industry?"

Voranai Vanijaka, a political columnist at the Bangkok Post and lecturer in journalism and mass media at Thammasat University, and Imtiaz Muqbil, the Executive Editor of Travel Impact Newswire, debated the delicate subject in front of 50 travel industry professionals at the Chapter's annual general meeting at a leading Bangkok hotel.
