Only a Visa obtained from a Thai Embassy/Consulate allows entry to the country. An extension of stay does not allow entry unless accompanied by a re-entry permit both of which can only be obtained in-country from the Thai immigration service.
I don't see the fuss over having just labelled it as a multi entry retirement visa that is renewed each year. I've obtained a b type visa while in thailand and I get multiple entries on my METV.
Any other reasons why it is important to rename this process as an extension.
It is what it is seems the best reasoning.

Visas are never expended. Only the permission-to-stay obtained from a Visa or Visa-exempt entry can be extended. A Visa once used or past its use-by date is of no further use.
Thanks. Do you know why this terminology/method is used for allowing retirees to stay long term. Any reason why a document titled visa could not be used each year?
They both pretty much take up a page in a passport.

Is it not correct to say the visa is extended by the extension of stay documentation. To say someone is staying as an alien without a visa doesn't seem right to me. I'm not sure as I'm a few years away from retirement.

I can't see how a dog catcher roaming the neighbourhood popping off every free dog as not working, but there are more diplomatic ways.
I'm not sure if diplomacy, democracy, compassion works well in the world we live in any more though.
Btw . "I don't feel at home in the world anymore." Is a good movie.
Do yourself a favour and take a watch.

I'm not sure why the people of Thailand dont ask at the city hall to fix such problems.
I'm sure if a Thai person asked at City Hall they would get action.
I.e please collect all stray dogs.
Well maybe not one person. But 100 surely would be noticed.
Maybe 100 posters here could arrange to meet if they are Thai ID card holders.
I guess foreigners should stay out of politics.

Thailand sides with China.
Whatever enemies China has or gets will be Thailand's.
China. A great friend to have.

My father's reply to another similarly related topic was that they couldnt organise themselves well, referring to why Jewish people didn't revolt back more aggressively to protect themselves.
It's lucky for the whyties that Aboriginal race of people don't try to take their land back now. Having said that, all ownership is theft. Earth belongs to all living things.
Peace to all.

Soccer womens league are prettier....
Oh boy! Those soccer ladies can hammer the ball though. They kick it hard. Soccer bores me a bit as I've been spoilt with AFL but I'd prefer to watch ladies soccer to WAFL. But the other way round for the chaps.
Go Tiger!

Well, seeing as it is generally accepted as proven by DNA testing that the Aboriginals came from SEA, are they going to apologize for invading too ?
And while we are at it, let’s have a “Thank You Day” when all those who claim to be Aboriginal, even those who are whiter than me and are one sixteenth or less Aboriginal, can say “thanks” for pulling them out of the Stone Age.

A truly disturbing post. No matter what your teachers at school tell you, you are NOT responsible for actions of your forefathers hundreds of years ago. The world was a vastly different place back then. We are talking a hundred years before electricity was discovered. Had the fleets not arrived from Britain in the late 1700s others would have arrived, and a similar scenario would have played out, just as it did all over the globe.
Pop some shrimps on the barbie and crack a tinny, and celebrate the great developed nation of Australia. Don't let these "progressives" destroy what your forefathers build with their blood, sweat and tears. It was not handed on a plate.
Agreed, but I think the point that is missed in the argument is the specific date of arrival/invasion/takeover. This is the issue at hand. Let's celebrate Australia on a more suitable date.
Perhaps the date of the greatest beer drinking day in Oz. The AFL Grand final day. Unless footy offends you. Any other suggestions for a date that doesn't offend a race or religion.

Shouldn't we celebrate both the recognition of natives and new Aussies. Just change the date to a current one of reconciliation.
Stubborn cracker jacks.
Otherwise the thought of celebrating hardship still will linger in the minds of native culture.

very informative, thanks, now, what is the fine for no TM30
Anywhere from nothing to thousands, depending on who you deal with. The written law on .gov website I believe stated 1900 baht if my memory serves me right.

My point when mentioning my experiences wether in jomtien or bkk is this. Rules written or not change with the wind and it's best to over do it with safety and expect everything everywhere everytime.
That's my take on it.
If you try to get one set scenario that you see is right you'll be tripped up eventually.

Discussed with friends about cha am the other day and how it makes you feel your in Pattaya 20 years ago. I recommend a visit their to refresh.

I went to ask about changing to postpaid internet yesterday. thinking it would be better/cheaper. It's not. Prepaid 30 day 300 bht 1mbps speed is the go to plan for me.
Also service ladies still quite disinterested to help. Working for monopoly companies is fantastic. Do a bad job. No problem.
Also had to recover 700 baht sneaky fees. Keep an eye on your usage history in app. You're most likely being charged for services not requested.

I did my part yesterday.
Walked into jomtien imm. About 11:45 to hand in tm30 after arriving back in Thailand to stay in my not so temporary accommodation.
I copied a lot of pages with the form to which the young lady seemed frustrated as to why so many pages. Surprisingly, at the front desk I was processed right away. Gone in 5 minutes.
Besides my usual advice of go often to do tm30 for your safety, make sure you are supplying as many documents as you can in support.
I say, if you are asked to do it. Do it well.

Bangkok with-out the immigration offices practically ceasing to function because of overload....
Farang, if smart, would unite and make that point. I.e. If everybody went everytime following the rule if you are away from your bed for more than 24 hrs go to report. It may push the rule to breaking point.
But instead groups fail to go and are eventually fined feeding the system. Everybody. Please go everytime you think you need to. And even throw a few in of go even though you know you don't need to.

It's wishful thinking. Obviously, if the economy crashes, so will the baht. You always have to look after number 1 when you're retired. The baht has stood up well through a military coup and all sorts of political turmoil before that, so it's not about to crash any time soon over non-news.
I'm thinking the coooo has a lot to do with it too. The military has no doubt, brought a stop to any burning of shopping malls , things are more certain with military rule.
Not necessarily good certain.
After a 'fair"election takhsin group will be voted in is my guess and baht will reduce in value. Maybe against itself. Huh.

In the UK (the EU) you can take up to 10,000 Euros in cash in or out without declaring it.
Australia 10k U.S. worth. Above the declare able amounts your money will be snatched from you and you'll be made to feel the most powerless and pitifull human. Great job to be a customs agent. I declared my intelligence to a pretty customs officer one time.
She was not impressed. Hard people are these officers.

METV. From your home country. With returns back to home country.
This seems to be the most appropriate visa option C/w visa on arrival and setv. I've never heard of problems with METV from home country.
use, I'm a tourist to Thailand who has friends to visit and funds to support while visiting Thailand. Maybe using visa for visiting girlfriend is not an accepted reason.

I too tried to help a lady with mental disability. My conclusion. A lot of scumbag people on the planet making it hard.
The solution is to develop a thick skin, help sometimes, and wait for your departure on this sinful earth.
Btw. Have a nice week everyone.
