  1. The Dutch guy in the picture is the attache for the KLPD (Royal 'Landelijke' Police Department) permanently based within the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok.

Normally these discoveries is they have been tipped / for money.

The Embassy is in fact only Foreign Affairs (business) but they house other departments like KLPD and Nature, Fishery and Agriculture too.

Good information learn something new everyday.

Tomorrow will add a picture how his office door looks on the 2nd floor.......you need a thermic lance to get your Bill of Lading (back) :)

  2. Yesterday Egypt Air from KL to BKK.........people on board talking in their cell.phones, seat backs in all possible positions (guy in front of me had it reclined to the max.), tray tables out. Crew, didn't check around nor corrected essential safety requirements with the passengers. Children not buckled up. During some turbulence dad's leaving their children walking around. Even at the start cell.phones still in use. At the landing people walking during taxiing. I had once an emergency stop while taxiing in Spain. You will never forget to keep sitting.

The daily routine with a lot of airlines (+ lacking Government Control) is getting too loose and a major crash will happen here soon. No doubt.

  3. Hello just to add my comments.I am from a motor engineering background. I worked in the workshops of a large steelworks in the north of england and also with the Go Ahead group in Wallsend norrth east. The UK has strict laws on bus operators and other PSV vehicles. All of these vehicles have speed limiters and Tachograph recorders which record the drivers hours ,stops and speed over the journey.Drivers hours are regulated and heavy fines for both driver and operator are issued. The problem with Thailand is because the salaries are low they drive longer hours to get a decent wage. This would mean higher fares and wworking Thais who have 300baht per day wages would penalise their travel. If they increased the minumun wage then both the driver and the bus operator could employ more drivers and implement the UK system.Incidently I am not a rich falang and have travelled on many buses as I have lived in Thailand for almost 10 years. I have seen drivers good and badand always thank the good driver as I am getting off my destination.

But despite the ery good regulations in the U.K. still it comes to responsible bus drivers. I remember a tragic accident in France. The U.K. bus left Salou, beach resort in Spain with a front wheel bearing making noise. No time to replace. Witnesses told later the bus made regular stops at the high way to cool the bearing down by pouring buckets of water.....(which is not a long lasting help.....). They had to catch the Calais ferry to the U.K.

Frontwheel blocked, bus crashed and many persons died.

If drivers do not have the 'stop-work-authority' as you see in the oil- & gasindustry, these things will continue happening. On an oil rig (even) a cook can stop the complete production if he/she notices anything which dangers the platform and the safety.

  4. "In the case of double-decker buses, the windows on the top deck have reinforced glass, which is difficult to break, making it tough for passengers to escape in case of an emergency, Assistant Professor Somprasong Sattayamallee said".

What a nonsense, not using reinforced glass would result in daily damage apart that it can not hold the stress of the body movements. Glass is a part of the structure / strength of a bus. Using normal glass is not possible. A bus should simply have enough emergency hammers.

Already in 1990 I have been driven buses in Spain with + 72 persons in a double decker (Van Hool, Setra, Neoplan) with 4.10 mter height. The chassis used in Thailand are often Volvo, Scania. No problem to hold more then 70 passengers.

It all comes to normal responsible driving, no speeding (100 km/h is the max.), good quality tyres (Michelin, Bridgestone) and no cheap Chinese makes or re-cuts until the yarns. Or a driver with a cell.phone glued to his ear doing + 100 km/h on a highway steering 1 handed in a curve.......that made me decide in February 2013 never to use a Thai bus anymore until safety mentality has been improved.

Driving a bus; always 2 (strong) hands on the steering wheel. A tyre burst on a front wheel can always happen.

  5. indians are so cheap and they always bargain, I kind of am happy that this is happening, probably they arranged the 100 bht sessions and that is why I approve it, sadly the ladyboy did not find any money in their pants

Very dumb post. the dumbest......so we promote theft and scam now because of the nationality involved? Thought Thailand already exposes enough of that share. Indians have a certain fame but several other nationalities too. It's Pattaya creating the attraction for cheap tourist. And a lousy ladyboy who will go from pickpocketing to worse?

  6. My deepest condoleances too for family Shaffer. I filed police report in 2012. Taxi driver took a base ball bat from under his chair. He was called / booked by my hotel but after 500 mtr. refused to drive me further since I didn’t step in his tourist-trap (my meter no work, broken). I politely asked him to bring me (due to heavy rain) to Sathorn from Banglumpoo and would pay 150 instead of normal 100. He insisted me to leave his taxi……but out of sight of the hotel. It was 15.00 afternoon, I was not intoxicated at all, kept being polite. Khao San Road police caught him but he apologized to me and the base ball bat was confiscated. End of case. Lunatic taxi drivers with Yabaa in their ‘brains’. Nana area, Patpong area, Khao San Road. Time for a huge clean-up and detox centres for lots of those idiots.

  7. you can find all the excuses you want but Thai drivers are among the most dangerous drivers in the world. that is a reality .....

Don't agree........Thailand is far from the safest country with traffic but not 'most dangerous in the world'. Go to India, go to Africa, go to South America. Or even Europe; Spain, Belgium...... Thai traffic is still relatively peaceful and of course accidents happen. Over 60.000.000 people and (still) poor mentality with safety belts. I prefer to drive in Thailand over many countries in Europe.........

  8. Another example of hypocrisy.....Khiri always made publicity and wrapped vouchers in 'environment friendly' covers: "We aim for ecologic and responsible tourism. Contact with the local people". They amde a deal with ASA-group. Private jet supplier in the South Eastern Hemisphere and now transport rich (Americans) to Myanmar to do some 'environmental friendly' cycling.

I spit on those companies making a start with 'local people, benefit for the poor, bringing worlds together, environmental responsible'.

From an air space carrier not much contact with a local Burmese farmer. Follow the US$ Mr. Willem Niemeijer.......founder and CEO of this welfare organisation.

  9. What a disgusting and nasty side of Thai life! And clearly, it can and does continue because people in high positions are involved. Makes one want to puke.

NickNick, it is Thailand.......dark skinned from their own Isan area are lowest on the pecking order ladder. Rohinya, Lao H'mong, Karen, Aka, etc. refugees are less than dogs for this 'Buddhist' society. And on top, when you are born female you don't have rights at all. Don't read and follow to much, you might puke 24/ 7.

  10. If they push Rohinya's back on sea, better to take them onboard of a fish trawler and let them paint, fish, prepare food....at least the 'Buddhists' leave humans alive by doing so. Awful mentality. In the '70's Cambodian (Pol Pot era) refugees who knew to escape by boat via the Mekong to Thailand were first being robbed of all remaining possessions and abused by Thai fishers (pirates) before finding shelter.
