  1. There are many beautiful and well-located condos around the country so there are plenty to choose from. These may also appear to very reasonably priced but there are many other costs which need to be considered. Coupled with this is the plethora of paperwork and formalities of the bureauratic Thai system. To own a property, whether foreign or Thai company owned, you must possess the Chanot and Tabian Baan, ie, the land registry plan and the blue book. Usually, these will be transferred when you pay the final payment for the property. However, some developers, being in financial difficulties, have not transferred them to the owners for more than four years. Owners of units at Amari Residences (The Legend Residence) have been waiting for their chanots to be transferred from Nova Legend Group who appear to be in financial difficulties, having used the chanots as security for a loan from Siam Commercial Bank. An action group has been formed to progress claims.
  2. I agree with the sentiment. It is clearly parents selling their daughters. I married an educated Thai girl 30 years ago having paid GBP2,500 for the privilege. She stole from me and my company. When she walked out with our daughter then asked to come back I declined the kind offer. We eventually divorced. I asked the parents to return the dowry but got no response. I think I got the better deal in the end!
  3. Good luck to him. We need a lot more variety in the wines that are available, amongst other things. PS. I'm getting p****ed off seeing Nick Faldo continuously!
  4. The sponsors of the 2022 Olympic Games should be made aware that if the 15 year old Russian Ice Skater is allowed to continue in the competition we, the general public, will be boycotting their goods and services. Somebody has to make a stand against the drug cheaters.
  5. No country is perfect for retirement but if you don't need to be near relatives when retiring there are six aspects of later life which need to be researched before deciding which country, ie: - Quality of life. - Cost of living, eg, rents, home ownership, weekly groceries, entertainment, etc. - Tax regime. - Climate and environment, eg, air pollution. - Security. - Quality, availability and cost of medical facilities. If you do this for Europe, Spain is the best place to be. For Asia, Thailand has my vote. However, the cost of living here is increasing rapidly.
  6. A law is no good to anybody if you do not enforce it and penalise transgressors.
  7. Should be immediately deported back to his home country and banned from returning.
  8. Many expats came here and purchased condos for rent to tourists to supplement their pensions and provide some financial assistance whilst living in Thailand. This new policy could see our condo units remaining empty for some time. As some expats choose to sell off property values will reduce. This is possibly a good thing for the richer Thais who will buy them up, but who are they going to rent to? It will also make Thailand less attractive as a property investment destination. Clearly, the status quo would be the best financial option for everybody concerned. Leave the snobby 'high-end' market where it belongs as there are a lot fewer of them!
  9. The improvements to the infrastructure appear to have already started with the drainage and road upgrading. Pattaya Thai has to be the best road in Pattaya since the improvements. Just thought I should add something positive.
  10. Sod the tourists, what about us residents? We would like to be able to drink alcohol with a meal out. Tourists are never going to come if you are not allowing the restaurants to sell alcohol with food.
  11. Sod the tourists, we've managed without them for nearly two years. What about the locals being able to have a reasonable quality of life? Another kick in the teeth for us expats who have kept the Thai economy alive over the last 18 months or so. If the Government is serious about getting the tourists back they need to, at least, partially open some of the attractions, particularly restaurants serving booze. If the tourists get here and find nothing open they will not return.
  12. I just want to be able to have a glass of wine with a meal it’s the weekend. I don’t drink at all during the week.
  13. In your other report on opening up, Bangkok "Restaurants and eateries can also resume normal opening hours, and be allowed to serve dine-in customers alcoholic beverages." So what is the problem with Pattaya doing the same? Does not make sense. Why this discrimination?
  14. What chance of them improving? I just saw a pig fly by my window.
  15. So what about residents returning to Thailand? Do they have to go through the same procedures?
  16. This won't mean a thing if they do not allow alcohol to be served in restaurants and hotels.
  17. The cops won't have a leg to stand on if none of those arrested contract Covid-19, the reason for the bar shutdowns.
  18. We have a chicken and egg situation here. Do you allow the tourists in without fully opening the restaurants and bars or do you open them and then let the tourists in. I believe the latter makes more sense.
  19. Yeah but I live in Pattaya and had both of my vaccinations in Bangkok Bang Sue Central Station so do I count as a Bangkok vaccinee? Could skew the numbers considerably.
  20. They should allow the restaurants to fully open with booze as the numbers and seating arrangements can be controlled. If that works, then progress to the bars. This will be a form of gradual opening taking it a little at a time.
  21. This is ridiculous! If you want tourism to come back to normal with tourists coming here again you need to start opening the restaurants at least. Drinking in restaurants can at least be controlled.
