  1. Just to point out in many countries 'teaching assistant' is the job title given to untrained and unqualified people assigned to control a disabled or challenged child in a school environment. In other words a minder.

In this Thai school it appears they hired within the correct job description.

As you have no WP you are working illegally, no contract with illegal workers can be enforced.

    Just walk away.

I agree with AnotherOneAmerican. Just walk away. The 3 days you have worked are lost in the way of cash. You do not have a finalised contract as you have not changed your visa from tourist to Non-B. You have not got a work permit so again that has not attached your visa to a school. If you just walk they can not touch you. If you decide you want to find work after this, do it in a different area of BKK. Let us know how it goes!

  2. To be honest, if you are in a high attended area for Loy Krathong you are lucky if it gets more than 20 metres before a cheeky little kid has not snatched the money off the Krathong and taken it back to the shop to re-sell. I stopped doing it when it happened 2 yrs in a row and no Thai's did anything about it. I might put a fire cracker in this years one and see how the little buggers like that!

  3. I would like to thank all you guys for giving me some advice. I was in luck as I went to get my Thai yellow house book translated into English at the department store across from the UK Embassy. On the ground floor there was a shop well set up and knew what I wanted. It cost 250 baht for 6 pics and I only had to wait 15 mins. At the Trendy building I had a very slight hiccup but not my fault. I had my appointment print off but for some reason my name was not on the reception list in the lobby but they stamped it and sent me up. The same thing at the main reception on the 28th floor. The young lady ran off with my print off and in 2 mins called me into the cubicle room. Everything went smooth I just needed to make 2 colour copies of the information page from the house book and I was done. My appointment was for 1pm but I was in and out in 15 mins and even before 1pm as I had gone up alittle earlier than 12:40. They do have copy machines and photo booths but alittle pricy to use. All in all not a bad service, will just have to see how long it will take for my notification to pick up. They also said it was cool if I had someone else pick up as long as I give them a letter authorising it, my reciept and passport. That will save the 7 hour bus journey!

  4. OP is actually onto something, nothing to do with headaches.

My mother-in-law was constantly squeezing the bridges of my kids noses when they were babies to make them bigger; until I asked her politely to stop it.

It is common practice, and has nothing to do with "making fun of Thai women".

My Thai friends mum is doing the same to their baby. They asked me if this is right that it helps give a farang style nose shape. I told them it was complete <deleted> and also it only hurts the kid, as they had told me it often cries when she does it to the baby. I told them it is done to genetics and thats it, unless go to see the plastic doctors

  5. I watched the video of the fight and to be honest it was no way a draw. Buakaw would have been well ahead on points after 3 rounds. I can understand why he was annoyed with the results and went back to his dressing room as this was a farce. The German fighter was good but was not as good as his Thai opponant on the night.

  6. Thailand should adopt a new transit system. Park and ride, this has been in operation for years in the Uk's big cities. You drive your car to a large car park outside of the center. You pay the parking rate for the day and this gives you a ticket to use for buses to shuttle you into the city and return later. Plus adding stops for people on the way to get on and off the bus following a set route. Much better than thousands of individuals all driving their cars to work. Bkk would need at least 5 park and ride car parks set up in different areas but it can work. Plus the car park will have 24 hrs security if its the same as the UK. Just an idea but maybe to logical to work here!

  7. Why are you wanting to leave? Is it because you have found a better place to work? Are they being outragous with the requests outside of the signed contract? Or are you just bored and don't want to teach anymore?

I am not picking on you just wanting to understand the situation. If you have found a better place to work you need to give them notice. If they are taking the urine, out of you, leave and give them 0% notice and have plans in motion. If you do not want to teach anymore it is maybe better if you left as the students will be the ones to suffer from you being bored in classes.

  8. Find where there are village/housing complexes in your area and I am sure you will find places. The gates will usually a sign with a telephone number will be on it. They are usually 2/3 style town houses our 2/3 bungalows. Good luckthumbsup.gif

Once you find a place it is between you and the landowner about how much is the rent. Water/electric bills can either be paid to the owner or have them sent directly to your address. Just sit down, chat and work the deal out to the best of each of yourssatisfaction.

  9. I had to do the same. Pictures of myself and the wife sitting on the bed. Photo's of the wardrobes to show both mine and her clothes, both of us standing in the front of the house, showing the house number. The funny thing is I rent the house we are living in at the moment and so when they saw her house registration was a different address ( her mums ) they made me write her mums address. So this would in theory wipe-out the pictures we took but they accepted them. Very odd but true!

  10. The 50 soldiers were most likely hired thugs. It is easy enough to get your hands on any kind of military clothes here in Thailand. I have a 100% army jacket given to me from a Thai man on his way to sign-out of the army as he had served his time. Go to any of the festivals and there are people selling fatigues and army gear all the time. I hope the people living in this place get help and not be bullied into moving just because some person has money to hire thugs to try and do it.

  11. Truely a very sad story. Why was this allowed in the first case? Of course money talks and the powers that be walk. After all this time that this beautiful creature has been caged she will never be able to intergrate with others easily as she has been alone for too long. I hope the WWF get involved in this case and move the gorrilla to a more suitable place in the fresh air and beable to live out the rest of her life.
