Choengmon is 20 min drive, with motorbike...

You can get 100 baht per day if renting for a month in Chaweng Noi.

agree 20min is a bit of a hike, Chaweng Noi is better option. We just stayed in Karon very few shops rent without passport. So i hope this is not an issue in Chaweng. I have licence, but never leave passport. Lost Australian passport now $860 to replace. Thanks

Yeah, they basically hold your hand and push you in the right direction.

They handle the paperwork and - since they have contacts at the Bang Chak DLT - your application miraculously gets processed in a few days instead of 6 weeks or so. They can also provide a seaworthy vehicle if you currently don't have your own. E.g. motorcycles for rent at the DLT are, well, a bit past their prime.

They will also assist with test and exam preparation and handle any hurdles you may encounter during the process. But you need to pass the exams, submit the right documents etc.

It just saves a lot of hassle, but it's nothing you can't do on your own, given some time and patience.

[edit] Speaking from my own, singular, experience. There may be other, less legal, avenues, but I've got no experience with these.

Thanks, I'm not interested in doing anything less legal but I don't mind tipping some one for handling all the paper work.

Bangkok Scooter rental in Phrakhanong. Say NSR Mike sent you.

Perfect really appreciate this, I will be looking for a condo in Thonglor area, so the bike will be handier than taxi.

    Cheers

Make sure you have a proper helmet (and not some plastic Chinese crap they would give you), and make sure you have full accident insurance coverage.

    Be Safe.

Thanks, any idea where I can hire the bike ?

  5. Hi,  I will be staying in Bangkok for six weeks. I was looking for any info on the best

place to hire a Honda Click. I will be staying in the Thonglor area. I have hired previously in Chaing Mai.

I never leave my passport as deposit.

    Thanks for any comment.

    Cheers

Get yourself a Transferwise (or similar) Borderless Debit card which you can load up with almost any currencies you want. Can use it in ATMs anywhere or online.

Ok thanks for this info, I have used Transferwise, I did not know they have a debit card. I did look at this option. However, the ATM fee from the Thai side is still charged. With ING Australian debit card the bank(ING) refund 100% of the ATM fee anywhere in the world. And there is no withdrawal limit. Citi Bank also have no ATM fee but their sole ATM is in Central World. So at this point ING are offering Australian clients a very good option.

I lived in Sydney (never again) for 12 months in a 54k apartment which was under the flight path to Mascot airport. It's funny when I think of the things that annoyed the crap out of me back then makes me smile now. But I would never stay in an apartment in bkk for that outlay, much better available for much less.

You didn't mention when, Mascot is total chaos now and houses are over a million, I'm70 now and just looking for a pool, good coffee and a quiet life. Sydney is none of those things and very expensive, I have been to Bangkok several times and enjoyed it so  I'll give it a go. I thanks for your comments. cheers
