  1. Thank you for your comments. I opened the Bangkok bank account to simply reduce the cost of using ATMS that is all. I was happy with the Rabbit Visa card and with the option of using it also on the BTS.

However, in Australia ING bank are offering a 100% refund of any ATM fee anywhere in the world if you deposit at least $1000 per month into your account. So I tried my Australian ING debit card in a SCB ATM Soi 8 Sukhumvit. I was charged 220BHT which is ($9)sure enough I was credited my ATM fee charge within 24hours. So this is another option for Aussies.

Thanks once again for comments, this forum has really helped I will be back in Bangkok in December with my Bangkok bank book and I will see what is on offer.

As already written: if you forgot the bankbook at your home country there is no other way than doing a police report about "having lost".

With this the bank (your branch!) will invalidate the old book and issue a new one.

    (for a fee I guess?)

No card without passport plus bankbook!

I believe this is misinformation.  Whilst they are pushing the Union Pay cards very heavily, a Be1st Visa debit card is still available if you ask.

If you say it's lost they want a police report and would then issue a new book (no idea if they would do this at another branch than the "home" branch)

You should know that you won't get a Visa card from Bangkok Bank anymore, but a Union Pay card which is kinda limited. So you could also think about opening a bank account with another bank.

  3. I have had four 90 Visas issued by the Thai embassy here in Sydney, I am over 60 and an Australian citizen

I have never overstayed my visa whilst in Thailand.

My position now is that I would like to visit Thailand at least twice a year on 90 day visas with possibly a two months break in between.

My question is:  Does anyone know if there is a limit on these  90 day visas, if I travel to Thailand twice a year for the next five years ?

    Thanks for any response

  4. Ok Thank you to you and Ubon Joe!

my mistake I did not dial 2 in front of the number. So easy mistake to make, why the operator does not inform put 2 in front ? However, my mistake now all good.

Contacted Emirates, thanks once again for help.

just one other issue, when I tried to contact Thaivisa, blank page kept coming up.

i had to use PIA server to connect?

    thanks

  5. Hi Joe,

Thanks for your response, these numbers are all disconnected. They (Emirates)

don't even have an email to a link. I will be in Bangkok on 10 March I can go to their office in Asoke assuming it's there still. I tried Trip advisor but their forums are out of date.

Ok I think it's amazing that Emirates have not updated their numbers. I will be flying Qantas next time.

    thanks cheers.

  6. Hi,

Does anyone have the phone contact number for Emirates in Bangkok?

I have tried all their contacts and the operator informs me the numbers do not exist.

Im in Chaing Mai wishing to contact them

    any assistance would be appreciated.

    thanks Phil

  7. Thanks for the info. I usually draw money out in cash from CItibank Bangkok then go to Chaing Mai. But I will defo, check out Transferwise cause I bank with Bankwest also. I have an account with Bangkok bank now so maybe a direct transfer to them is also an option. Cheers

  8. Citibank Plus Transaction Account debit card available in Australia is an option for Australians.

No ATM fees, (only ATM is 4th Flour Central World Bangkok)
no Account keeping fees, no international transaction fees and it also works as a debit credit card for online purchases.

  9. Hi I would like to kill two birds with one stone;

I have to get a visa extension as I will be overstaying for three days.

I also require a letter from immigration confirming my address for Bangkok bank.

QUESTION: can I do this with one visit to Thai immigration? I am in Chaing Mai.

    Thanks  for any response.

  10. Hi, I want to open a bank account with Bangkok Bank in Chaing Mai,

I have my Aussie passport with 30 day stay. (visa exempt)

I have read it's not a big deal anymore but if anyone has had a good experience with a particular branch that would be good to know.

I understand that some branches are easier than others.

    Thanks for any tips.

  11. Hi, I'm arriving in Chaing Mai on August 1/ 2016

I will be staying for one month and would like to hire a motor bike, just a simple Honda click or similar.

Where would the best place to hire a decent bike, reasonably low rate? I'm not looking for something too cheap, just reliable.

I will be staying close to the Uni.

Thanks I really appreciated any info.

  12. "For you information.

You could have bought a throw away exit ticket for $40 or even $0 when refundable. 30 days extension is about $30

And overstay does not influence future applications."

Thanks for this accurate information, in hind sight I should have got onto Thaivisa first

then acted. I will next time!

    ok Cheers

  13. Hi

I have read some older posts stating that a tourist cannot buy a motor bike in Thailand.

I will be staying in Chaing Mai for three months, returning to Australia for two months; then back

Chaing Mai again for a further three months

I think it's a good idea to buy rather than rent.

can I BUY MOTOR BIKE WITH TOURIST VISA ? ( I will have a condo lease, and a International driving licence)

Sorry if i did not find the answer in a recent post.

    Cheers Phil

  14. I really appreciate the comments, actually I was on calculation going to be two days over.

So I decided to back date my flight with Qantas paid the extra two bucks.

No visa over stay issue, No queue at the Promenade at Chaing Mai.

I am seriously considering retiring to Chain Mai so I just don't want any hassles.

I will be monitoring the forums for retirement so I get it right next time.

    Ok thanks Phil
