Amazing to see people who grew up in a 1st World country with all it's benefits, riches and safety nets judging people who have grown up in an emerging 3rd World country where no money means destitution and possible death for them and their family.
It must be great to feel superior to the Thai people but where would you be without the ability to earn enough money to support you and your family? It's just the luck of place of birth. Nothing to do with being clever or working hard.
If you live in Thailand you are just a car crash away from that situation

I don't know you Steve but my heart goes out to you. Make the most of the time you have. We will all get there in the end and have a few beers and sing songs. Take care dude

Perhaps the title should be changed to making a living?

Come on keep working. The rich are not going to get richer by themselves as they retire at 50 and head for the sun. Drones is what the want ;-)

UKIP have quite a few members who are also fascists, BNP and EDL members who write racist rants on their Facebook pages for all to see. So it is strange that someone who feels at home in such a party would want to take advantage of what other countries offer but not the other way round.
Immigration is hard to discuss only because it attracts racists like a toff to a stag hunt. If they stayed out of it maybe there could be a rational debate

and keep it without bashing Thailand...for now. Finally, a thread that posters seem to be able to keep on-topic.
Bashing the bishop instead of Thailand ;-)

Are they taking the call on a hands free phone?

I was in Thailand in February. Stayed in Bangkok and Pattaya. Was with my Thai gf who lives in UK. I never felt safer despite being out till 2:30 some nights. I would NEVER do this in my home town in UK. It's a very dangerous place. Was harassed in New York too
As others have said, get travel insurance, be very careful crossing roads and more importantly... don't act like an idiot, be responsible for your behaviour. Western countries have got to the point where all kinds of stupid behaviour is tolerated in public. Thankfully this is not the case in Thailand

It's done because its easier than making Amazon, Google, Vodaphone etc pay the billions they should be contributing in corporation tax. Makes good headlines in the xenophobic press when bashing foreigners too.
It's probably the right thing to do but a drop in the ocean of savings compared to the deals done that rip off the British taxpayer with the companies above

I have a Zip drive too, a nice see through blue colour. It works but I never use it. Still use my iPhone 3GS although I haven't updated the iOS for a long time. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

Farang comes from the word 'Farangi',which I believe is Persian/Farsi in origin and means foreigner. It's nothing to do with French,I suggest you do your research!
I always thought they were just big Deep Space 9 fans....
-
This might not help but I asked my gf when we first started going out what farang actually meant, she replied- big nose, white skin, not in bad way, many Thai people like and would like to look that way.
Swing and roundabouts then

My Thai gf lives here in the UK and I've noticed that she and her friends will refer to people as the man or the baby, or friend without mentioning their name. Gf will say, going to my friends house without saying which one till I ask. If I call her by her name instead of love etc, she repeats mine back pointedly as if I'm making some point.
Maybe it's a cultural thing?

And the ferry only costs 30 baht. I never trusted those speedboat guys. Quick money grab

Will have to get one of those lock code interceptor things because the remote lock buttons in my C4 are unusable these days. Would have to spend well over £100 to get a new official one coded.

In Wales we have to pay 5p for every plastic bag. People are moaning about that here. At least we don't see so many Tesco seagulls in the trees

Worked for myself. In fact, I started doing this 2-3 years before I left my job. One of the best things I ever did. No boss to hassle me, no commuting, no sitting in an office all day. Get up when I like, work when I like, travel wherever I like, and still get a steady income. I don't know why more people don't do it. It's not brain surgery. Very easy to build up a nice income over a few months/years.
Well don't keep it a secret, what you do? I like the sound of it

My gf mixes up the sound of omelette and ambulance. Could get tricky in an emergency!
What do we give up to be an expat

But this is the first summer in UK since 2005. Most of the time you will be spending indoors watching rain hit the windows in 19c highs
