  1. As it was recently mentioned again in another post, here's some more photos.

Definitely worth a visit with many types of Thai food available at good prices. There are tables and chairs about half way along next to 7-11 shop, or also at the bridge end where there is a music stage and beer.

  2. Instead of buying a video camera, go on this forum and ask to borrow a stranger's video camera for almost two weeks for free.

it was never asked for for free. You presume too much.

Being caught at the very last minute and at a bad time meant it was a last resort. Definitely last resort as the equipment I would normally use isn't your cheap dinky little handycams or the like.

By the way, although I don't make a habit of it, over the years I've leant out laptop, photo and video equipment for free to others for longer, but obviously with some sort of guarantee.

Not everyone living here are fungus, toenail. There are some genuine nice people too.

  3. Hi,

Would it be possible to borrow someone's video camcorder for about a week and a half to film at an event indoors?

My own camcorder is causing problems, despite just sitting in it's bag on the shelf for a while doing nothing.

I have SDHC memory cards, or might be able to use some mini-dv tapes I have if that's the media the camcorder takes.

Obviously this might be a bit of a long shot, but would really appreciate your help if you can. I should probably also mention that I live here in Pattaya with my wife and our kid, not on holiday or the like.

If you can help, please make contact as soon as you can.

    Many thanks :jap:

    Tom.

  4. As well as some other food, we also had the chicken on Saturday, it really was tasty. Shame I didn't get a photo when they had the chickens in the pots cooking. On the Sunday we had the pork from the spit, which was also really tasty, as well as some other smaller food of course.

Some food bought from the street can occasionally give me an upset stomach, but everything I had over the weekend at the market was just fine.

  5. Recently it was announced (link) that there would be a Pattaya Old Town Market at the far end of Naklua Road, this weekend being the first weekend of many (6 November - 20 February 2011).

It started where the park is and ran all the way down to the bridge. Mainly full of various Thai food, some of which I hadn't seen before or tasted till now, as well as clothes and other things to buy. There were two stages for shows, one about a quarter way along with traditional Thai music and another near the end of the market on the bridge with seating and beer available to watch the live band. Toilets were available too.

Family and I went both Saturday and Sunday, really enjoyed the food. Come evening, it was really busy.

There were both Thai and foreign customers, though I mainly seen Thai. Definitely worth a visit and bring an appetite.

There is a web site, but not updated for 2010 yet; PattayaOldTown.com

    Here's some pics;

  6. Try Magna Carta on Pattaya Tai opp. CAT

Better than most I have dealt with by far

Cheers, is that the name of the company? or???

Yes its Magnacarta Co.Ltd. just Google "Magnacarta Pattaya" and you'll get their web site.

I've used them before, but not for company/business stuff, they did an okay job for what was needed. At the time my Thai partner asked for a discount to which they agreed.

Its a shame there wasn't more responses regarding your request. I'm also interested in this topic as I've been toying with the idea of starting something. Really disappointing to see, however its maybe just this particular topic, who knows.

  7. Coincided with the development of Central Pattaya Beach, as did Royal Garden's overhaul of the food court. Was very much needed.

Still doesn't stop people dribbling all over the seats and/or not flushing. It's great however that there is an urinal and wash basin at kids level.

  8. I don't see your point. Wouldn't it be that when the lights are fully operational, the traffic lights will change to red when people want to cross with just a press of the button and all other times would be green for traffic to continue.

Presumably as not all the lights are operational around the city quite yet, the ones that are will remain flashing amber for the time being and act as a gradual warning to drivers.

Even in its current operation, a lit up crossing is good and even the overhead flashing amber and led pedestrian crossing sign is also good.

  9. This evening I noticed that the lights for the pedestrian crossing at the bus station on North Road were switched on for the first time. However, they are fixed on flashing orange and the button to press for changing the lights for crossing doesn't do anything at the moment, other than continually bleeping with a red light. Obviously done by design while lights are fixed on flashing orange. Guess the lights will stay like this for a while until ready to change to full operation.

Unfortunately, despite the lights flashing orange and the flood light lighting up the crossing, two pedestrians did struggle a little to cross this busy part of the road, although some traffic did slow down and the couple did make it to the other side safely.

Funny about the poster placement fail in the last photo.

  10. What might have been a better idea instead of the ramps being built at the kerb, they could have had speed bumps / sleeping policemen across the road, maybe even with built in led lights, reflective cat eyes or something. Personally I wouldn't mind wide speed bumps raised to pavement level with flat middle section for people to walk across and angled either side for vehicles to go up across and down, if practical.

  11. In Tesco Lotus North Pattaya, opposite the toilets on the ground floor, there is a ฿20 shop called the Pink Shop that sells various bric-a-brac. About a week ago I bought a hot glue gun from Lotus at ฿89, only to discover this shop this week selling the same item for ฿20. Lots of stuff, LED torches, some kitchen stuff, other household items, some kids toys, all for ฿20. Its worth a look.

Jump rope at the sports shop costs about ฿100, almost same cord/plastic tubing from Home Pro costs about ฿6 per meter. I can't believe I mentioned that one, I only know cause I got some plastic tubing for the garden irrigation. Honestly.

Prices of some of the 2 for 1 packs on shop shelves cost more than buying two individual of the same product. An example I can think of is toothpaste. I expect that Cheap Charlies would reuse their ฿8/pack Dentyne chewing gum from the previous day, just as well they come in a little try then.

  12. I'm kind of for it, although I do acknowledge negative points too, as there is with most things I suppose.

Anyway, possible valid reasons, just off the top of my head?...

During prolonged heavy rain / flooded Beach Road & Second Road, would allow more people to continue about their business, in stead of being stranded.

If they plan it well enough, join the monorail to a yet to be built multi-story parking at Sukhumvit end of North Road and at Central Road, where visitors to Pattaya (for example weekend visitors from Bangkok) could park and get the monorail around the city. Would then cut down on road congestion, air pollution, possible aggressive driving and accidents in the city. I suppose a multi-story parking at North Road might also benefit some who'd use the bus station too. Might also benefit Bangkok taxi drivers who want customers to take back to Airport / Bangkok, but don't want encroach on Pattaya City taxis. I'm kind of deviating here.

Monorail could be a potential tourist attraction (with or without the corkscrew loop – lol). Not everyone wants to go by open air taxi anyway, especially in the rain.

Bring Pattaya into the news in a positive light.

In their vision of the future, they maybe see it as one step closer to being a mini-bangkok-by-the-beach.

Photo vantage points from monorail and station platforms.

Potential reason to spruce up the city, as more of the city will be visible from the monorail.

Allow tourists to stay clear of the suit sellers and green laser pen sellers.

  13. When I seen the title, I immediately thought of the office shop next to Home Works in South Pattaya also.

Another alternative might be upstairs of Friendship supermarket in South Pattaya. The upstairs is almost entirely stationary / office related stuff.

  14. I briefly mentioned it about three weeks ago on the tail end of the post to do with the possible(?) mono rail in Pattaya;

Talking of developments, albeit on a very much smaller scale, but relate to traffic, it looks like there might be some pedestrian crossing popping up soon as I've noticed in front of the bus station, Tesco Lotus North, and Foodland. Not complete yet, bus sure looks like it.

Will be interesting to see how effective these are. Maybe even has some potential for petty fines on road offenders.

I seem to remember counting quite a few more around Pattaya, but can't remember where. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a plan for one at the Dolphin Roundabout end of North Road, which has probably a much higher number of pedestrians crossing the roads than other places that have the construction already in place.

Should be a good thing for the city though.

Now if only they can have the traffic lights at all the main junctions on Sukhumvit into Pattaya City to stay red for all directions for about 30 - 60 seconds, to give pedestrians enough time to cross safely, that would be great.

  15. Second hand hard back kids book with picture flaps on the pages that cover some pictures inside. Tape the card under one of the flaps, then double sided tape to keep the flap closed. Send by courier not standard post.

If that isn't safe enough for you, kids book with the hard card pages you can split the page with a knife hide document/card inside, glue it closed again, then post it as a gift, of course.

First option done successfully, not tried the second option, that's taking it too far for me.
