  1. no its not from todays newspaper. it is news from 2002.

but did you read also that part:

It said consumers could use Chinese honey already in their cupboards because the risk was considered 'extremely small'.

that anti china propaganda is still nonsense.

why not let the buyer/ consumer decide what kind of honey he wants to buy instead of putting an 200 percent import tax on foreign products?

anyway, i would always suggest to buy local.

if you look at the page tomorrow you will get tomorrows date.

believe me, its an old story. look here:

  3. ... to keep the total number of tourists to an appropriate level in order to prevent deterioration of natural resources and overcrowding at Suvarnabhumi international airport.

    less is more.

Any thing except improve the service at Swampy and put in first class run way strips and landing strips.

if thailand goes for quality tourism vs. mass tourism it can be only good for all sides involved.
  4. The Brits seem to have a poor view of Chinese honey... Maybe the good stuff was sent to America??

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-101494/All-Chinese-honey-ordered-shelves.html

" Food watchdogs have ordered all Chinese-produced honey to be withdrawn from sale after trials found that much of it is contaminated by antibiotics.

Forty per cent of the honey sold in the UK comes from China.

Tests of 16 pots found that ten contained the powerful antibiotic chloramphenicol.

The chemical is a trigger for aplastic anaemia, a rare but serious blood disorder which affects up to 100 people in Britain each year. It has also been linked to leukaemia."

thats an over 10 years old news story.

where is your outrage that the questionable news source coconutz told you and untrue story?

where is your outrage that US honey packers relabeled china honey? where is your outrage that in case you want get the best price on the market there is an over 200 percent import tax on chinese honey to protect lazy us honey makers from fair global competition?

  5. It's worse than a kindergarten. Having to tell a PM and her Ministers to do their job, the job they were elected to do. These people really take the biscuit, their arrogance and impunity are so blatant it is an outrage, and Yingluck is about to pick up an Honorary Degree in NZ for services on the international stage....what a joke.

Only goes to show how educational standards have fallen in the west - Honorary Degrees given to anyone and everyone whilst, everyone else has to attend and do very little to get one! Western Universities should take a look at attendance and see if we can reduce the hours

Has the NZ uni shared any details / examples of these outstanding contributions to the international stage which deserve an honorary degree?

    Anybody seen anything on this?

i doubt the academic experts at this board could answer you that question, so i would not ask here.
  6. The full article was quite interesting from Food Safety News.

    http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2011/08/honey-laundering/

"However, during that same period, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that almost 43 million pounds of honey entered the U.S. Of that, the Department of Commerce said 37.7 million pounds came from India, the same honey that is banned in the EU because it contained animal medicine and lead and lacked the proper paperwork to prove it didnt come from China."

How odd that the country India, with honey so poor that it is banned in the EU, is used by China as a transhipping country for its own poor honey...

So yes it is the same poisoned honey being shipped abroad by China, but it appears that Thailand is not really used. By the numbers above clearly India is the main culprit in hiding the origins of Chinese honey. Strange that Coconuts Bangkok http://www.coconutsbangkok.com/news/thailand-implicated-in-chinese-honey-laundering-scheme/#

would try to drag Thailand into this mess.....tabloid journalism ???

its also not about fake honey, but real honey that got falsely labeled as sugar syrup to import it.

why do make people a story about fake honey from china out of it?

because that simplified and false story pleased their readers xenophobia and bias that anything from China or Thailand is bad.

i bet that "news source " is not chinese owned.

The issue is that it is adulterated with added processed sugar, and as such has no right to be labelled as honey.

the issue is that story about that adulterated honey cannot be verified at the sources the article gives. if you read there you will find out it was just about 100% honey from china that got shipped to the USA.

in order to disguised the true country of origin it was shipped over india for example or declared as being just sugar syrup in the freight papers. but it was always 100% honey.

there seems to be market restriction and not 100% free trade when it comes to import honey to the USA. beside from that there was nothing about that that honey from china is somehow dangerous to your health. that is something that this coconutblog made up and the chinahaters want to believe in their bias.

  7. That is one of the most condescending statements about tourists i have ever hear a PM of any country say. If she is going to say this it should said in private to the TAT executives. Thinking like a hi-so and speaking like a hi-so.

Like Father - Like daughter. Taksin Shinawatra, son of a small movie house manager who probably did not enjoy the HiSo label, was the first idiot who told TAT to go for "more upmarket tourists". Mind you, at that time he was pushing his "Prestige" card, which in true Shinawatran Hokum - died a horrible death from bankruptcy. He couldn't give them away.

Now, Prestige is back and daughter Yingluck is singing Daddy's Song - again.

    father - daughter?

    you are the expert.

  8. Got any problems with Chinese, Russians and Indians?

ZhouZhou, I think that his point was the fact that Chinese and Indians, as well as many (but not all) Russians tend to on average spend a lot less than Americans, Brits, Aussies, Swiss and Kiwis. He doesn't have a problem, he is communicating fact. Quality is not quality in Thailand, it is generally about getting people to spend more. quality actually means higher spending in Thailand. Quality Tourist means Higher Spending tourist.

Chinese tourist spend less money in beer bars or what? and that is a problem.

according to what some members said here on the board, members from the countries you mentioned above as the bigger spenders, they hesitate to spend money on anything Asian made and prefer imported products from their english speaking people countries because they believe its better.

Just because my face is white, and I am a young to middle aged tourist in Thailand, does not mean you should judge me. I live in New Zealand, I have a Thai girlfriend from a good background who shares experiences and life with me here in New Zealand. We spend a lot of our year in the South of Thailand (Yala), where there are no beer bars. Please do not confuse yourself and assume that because I have a white face, and the Male body parts that I, nor anyone else with white skin come here just for the beer bars. Some do, but some do not. And this is their choice. I could also generalise and say that all Chinese arrive into Thailand following strange looking flags (this is what most of our white faces see at the airport and we never see most of you Chinese after that), and refuse to acknowledge or learn anything about a foreign culture before they visit or even settle in a country, but this would be racist - precisely the angle you have just taken against me being a white man that likes to visit the Kingdom. And besides, I have a more open view of the world from you and happen to know that a percentage of Chinese and Russians are actually interested in learning. I assume from your response that you are not, and that you are interested in seeing the world through the eyes of anyone except for your own. In 20 years, please do not complain that you are out of touch with the world; it is changing, even if you are not.

In relation to not wanting to buy from Asian traders; it is more about perception of trust - we feel we are seen as a number, and an easy target for a swindle by people of Asian origin, the same as when Chinese visit my country they tend to buy Chinese products from Chinese vendors. I have been around a while, and actually prefer to buy from Thais because I find them generally very honest and good at selling the right product, unless you shop at Pantip. In my country, everything is made in China. Unfortunately Chinese hunger for growth has destroyed our uncompetitive industrial market, but that is fine because it the industries here were greedy and inefficient previously.

Your small tunnel vision of the world in a nationalist and racist viewpoint is most concerning.

Oh, i am sorry. i didn't know that your knowledge is much bigger than mine and that i am not interesting in learning, because because you are white and have an asian gf from a good background, but i i was told there are less Chinese tourist in beer bars. Is that now true or not?

  9. So an US company imported real honey and that real honey was falsely labeled as sugar or syrup because for the latter are maybe lesser import restriction.

and the xenophobes in america are afraid to eat honey from china so it got relabeled as honey from India or Mongolia or somewhere else to avoid that yellow peril scare.

    Please take your medicine.

The company admitted in a factual statement that two former executives purchased Chinese-origin honey for processing at its facilities and sold that honey to its domestic retail, foodservice, and industrial customers as mislabeled non-Chinese honey, and at other times, as Chinese honey, all while knowing that it had been illegally imported to avoid antidumping duties and, at times, honey assessment fees. The honey was variously described falsely as sugars and syrups instead of Chinese-origin honey, and as having originated in Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand, and Vietnam, instead of China.

  11. And once she's successfully done that she'll be wanting to unload some of the low end stuff off the bottom, particularly the cheap charlie retirees scraping by off devalued sterling pensions. I can see higher retirement and marriage extension financial requirements coming up, along with compulsory health insurance or a deposit for emergency medical care.

The PM herself did nothing to acquire her wealth apart from being born with the right brother.

    are you a communist?

some people have more money than others. lucky if it comes from the family, good if they earn it by their own.

and some people may have not enough money to live in a foreign country. learn to live with it.

  12. Not sure this program is going well. Thailand seems to be flooded

with Chinese and Russians on budget tour packages, and then throw in

the Indians on top of that. Definitely would not make me want to

open a five star restaurant here.. :-)
