Kasikorn reduced ATM limits for foreigners
Unfortunately it is real, and on orders of the Bank of Thailand. They are rolling it out across accounts held by foreigners, and as we are in Thailand this might take a while and even then some accounts might be missed. So maximum limit on whatever transaction through mobile banking is 50,000 Baht, any transaction by atm card (both cash withdrawal and in-shop spending) limited to 20,000 Baht. Both above are daily limits. Multiple reports of foreigners having new limits instated, some after going in for an update (sim card, passport update, facial scan), other just over night, and this across multiple banks. Its not because a lot of people still have the old limits that its not true, might take several weeks or longer to update the limits and push to the apps for all foreigners...

Nevertheless, when back from Buriram I'll definitely drop by that Emquartier branch!

Or it might be some confusion, as apparently once holding a marriage non immigrant O 1 year extension, you "might" be able to open an account. Only to get that 1 year extension you need to have an account already 🙃

Here's a new one
First thing I hear of having to send documents to head office and waiting for approval before opening account. It's either on the spot or not at all. Maybe just covering so she can claim it's a head office decision so she doesn't have to take the loss of face!

KPlus is now almost useless to me after 4 years without issues they impose this on me
Not sure on the QR payments? Seem to be limited at 5000 Baht on foreign held Kbank accounts. Wouldn't be logical either as the security level is exactly the same for QR payments (scan by app) and transfers using the very same app. In person transaction in the bank hold no limits, but for a lot of them there are fees.

Long term extension requirement is a bit moot, because when you have one of those you already have a bank account with either 400K or 800K THB in it. So far non immigrant O (marriage) plus lease contract plus certificate of residence issued by CW immigration has not yet resulted in successfully opening a bankaccount, on as of now 8 attempts at 6 different banks. So simply not way in getting a 1 year extension based on marriage....

Yeah, seems to be impossible to get a bankaccount now, unless non immigrant B with workpermit (the WP only having been mentioned a few times, but the non B is an absolute requirement). Will have a go tomorrow in Buriram, but not much hope as all the banks seem to refer to guidelines recently received from their respective head offices. At the moment for longer stays in my case I seem to be limited to non O, followed by 60 day extension on visiting wife, and then a new non O visa. Rather costly with the needed travels and just the non O also coming in at 80€. Along with uncertainty and having to rely on the missus bank account for living expenses, rent payments and whatnot. So basically prospective longstayers either married or retired who do not yet have local bankaccount are <deleted> out of luck. Retirees do have the option of the non OA visa, but after will get stuck if wanting an in-country extension...

All the best, and also thanks for your update re the banking stuff. For what it's worth, i have had 2 stents placed, and the recovery after having them placed has been rather extreme. Before the procedure was being a bit short of breath and stuff, after them I felt almost 10 years younger (well, in some ways anyway 😇 ).

Seems not all accounts have been hit yet with the new BOT limits, but reports already coming in that even without going into your bank for an update or so, accounts suddenly over night are getting hit with the new low limit, and this across multiple banks, not just Kasikorn.

Called and asked K-service center. This is just a standard note visible for all users, just simply not applies to foreigners.

Opening bank account rules catch 22 (1-year extension)
Will most definitely try!

Kasikorn perfectly retains the facescan data. Before the reduced limits foreigners could perfectly transfer more then 50 000THB, had to do the facescan then, apart from being a bit clumsy (change background, turn face a bit, ...) it did work. It's not a face scan issue, it's just the limits which have been severely reduced.

Nope, not with K plus. Limited to 5000Baht as a foreigner (5 million for Thais or foreigners not yet hit with the new limits). My friend tried to pay the laptop that way (after atm payment failed), got declined as well. Trying to change it to more then 5000, see below screenshot, states max 5000 in bright red...

Opening bank account rules catch 22 (1-year extension)
Thanks, will try them... Tomorrow I have to pop over to Buriram, will get a re-entry over at Buriram Castle immigration office there (done several times before with them, usually in and out in 5 minutes). If I understand correctly I can always get a 60 day extension based on my marriage if needed, cause if the bank thingy drags on for a bit longer I won't have 2 months of seasoning the 400K Baht when my current 90 days expire!

His last incoming was from a few weeks ago, before al this limit stuff showed up. Next incoming (little over 100,000 THB) due end this month.

Opening bank account rules catch 22 (1-year extension)
Done 2 banks (Kasikorn and Khrung Thai), now proper branches with their own building on main Sukhumvit road in central Bangkok. Same result, they sneak in the back, come back with a bunch of stapled together A4 paper with the latest guidelines on opening accounts for foreigners Non immigrant B status is absolutely required, non-O status is simply not accepted. Gonna try some more, but starting to have a feeling my marriage 1 year extension is not going to happen. As a backup plan I inquired to my embassy if they would certify my home income (well over 100k€/month), but no luck. They only certify my signature without actually verifying my income, which immigration has confirmed to me that they will not accept that (CW).

OK, just checked, the message has indeed disappeared, making him hopefull. Tried to change the daily limit, but nada, maximum 50000 Baht, as mentioned below where you enter the new amount. When you put in 100000 and hit "done" like we tried, the 50000 limited simply gets highlighted in red... Can increase the limit up to 50000 Baht/day...

There are 2 limits, the "facescan" limit at max 50,000 THB. Then you have the "daily total limit" which now is reduced to also 50,000THB. Before the changes you could set the daily limit to 250 000THB for example, and then when you transfer more then 50000 just confirm by facescan. Now with the total daily limit reduced to 50000, the facescan is basically useless!

Because fast incoming transfer when using Wise (Kasikorn is instant), and then transfer onto account from wife, other own account by other bank (where incoming Wise transfers is for example limited to 50000 Baht).

Correct. And bigger ticket items limited to 20000THB/day. Anything over 20000 Baht you will have to withdraw cash in a branch, and then pay cash in the store.
