  1. I hit my head on the old bung.

    Now,

    I am seeing stars.

I agree, I never would drink at the bung hole,

I would prefer the water hole.

And I would never drink at Starbung,

When I could have cake and eat it at Starbucks.

I think they should have ignored it, because now I will always be calling Starbucks Starbungs.

    And laughing about it.

I may open a StarBuckRogers, and see if I get sued by both companies at the same time?

Yes, I think I will try to do so.

  2. Might want to consider getting your current chair reupholstered.

New foam and covering can really make a difference. Not so much of a bargain because good foam is the majority of the cost.

lots of small shops around. I have used the guy near the Tops Chotana on the road with the big fire station. The road that goes from Chang Puek to Santiam area.

New quality foam on the back and seat plus decent covering is upwards of 1k baht. Somewhat negotiable. Can use lower quality foam but it doesn't last as long or might outgas toxic chemicals etc.

You know, your useful comment here has just prodded me enough to have a brilliant idea:

This wooden chair does not belong to me, but is rather quite beautiful, heavy and made in Thailand.

I would not want to damage it in any way.

But I could get some of that good foam you mention and some tape.

Then I could mount the foam on my seat.

    Securely.

As you say, a small piece of high class foam would not cost much,

And I could probably get it from any top of the line upholstery shop, one worth its salt.

Just in case you might have the name and address for such a shop,

It would truly be helpful if you posted the info here.

I do like the solid wood chair, and I could continue to use it if I just put some foam loosely on the seat and the back.

I bet I could get so odd pieces for not much money.

Now, I just need to find the right shop,

    And I am in business.

Thank you for this very good solution.

I think it is a winner.

(Still, if I could pick up a used office chair cheap at a reasonable shop, I would not hesitate. Thanks.)

"The road that goes from Chang Puek to Santiam area" = maybe that is enough info. I will see. Tks.

  3. The one I always use is the following, and also, all the software required, including "live" CDs, and so forth, are easily downloadable. If you do not have a connection, then visit a coffee shop. Knoppix does still sell CDs. And even some companies sell loaded and prepared USB thumbdrives with Knoppix already installed.

If you don't have a computer, then there is always the coffee shop, as well.

The mailed copy of the CD or DVD, or USB, will take a long time, comparatively, especially if you live in Thailand.

They are still sold and can be located by Googling.

This is the best place to go to install a bootable USB thumb drive with persistent functionality:

    Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3

Universal USB Installer aka UUI is a Live Linux USB Creator that allows you to choose from a selection of Linux Distributions to put on your USB Flash Drive. The Universal USB Installer is easy to use. Simply choose a Live Linux Distribution, the ISO file, your Flash Drive and, Click Install. Upon completion, you should have a ready to run bootable USB Flash Drive with your select operating system installed. Other features include; Persistence (if available) – note that casper persistence will only work with fat16 or fat32 formatted drives.

  4. My wooden desk chair is heavy and sharp where the front of the chair hits me in the back of the thigh,

    And cuts off my circulation,

And leaves deep creases in the skin,

After about 10 minutes of sitting,

    Typing on TV.

I do not want to pay the crazy prices for new furniture in the retail shops.

I like the factory prices of China,

But I am now in Chiang Mai.

Where can I get some really cheap but high quality used furniture in Chiang Mai?

Probably I could use a good desk chair, and even a larger desk.

I would love some heavy natural wood book cases, (not the cheap plywood junk)

I could make the bookcase myself if I had tools, but I don't,

You just need a saw and a good sander and plenty of time.

    Who does not like wood?

This chair is so sharp, around the Biceps Femoris,

I am having trouble not grimacing while I write these words,

    Here.

This is the meaning of "Dire", though.

    Thanks for any good suggestions.

And, which are the best used and new bookstores, for Thai language study books,

To put in my new (used) bookcase?

It is getting pretty dire around here.

  5. I have just read that the rain causes the internet to slow down in Thailand.

So now, I also notice that today the posting speed to TV is slowing down, too.

Are these two bits of data related?

In a cause and effect way?

TV has been pretty fast, remarkably fast, until today.

And I am wondering if the Thailand internet is now waterlogged.

People say it can get that way.

But such things do not happen in Taiwan,

Where it does some serious raining,

    Most of the year.

    Thanks.

  6. I don't mind a bit more of rain , after a couple of dry days you can see how quickly hard and dry the trees and ground turns, and do love the chilly weather coming in as well , love this time of year .

    Me too.

It is nice to have a few hot days, then cool, then a rainy day.

I like the sound of it.

  7. Don't know about you, but I was reborn the moment I set foot on Thai soil.

Now, my too brief visit is half expended, so I should be feeling blue.

    How true.

This is sort of like my life in general.

I did not realize how good it was until it was almost over.

Maybe it will be off to Burma with me when I reach the five days left mark.

But where do I go from here when I reach my death bed?

The beauty of Thailand is something I will never forget.

The perfumes and fragrances here are just as pleasant as the sights.

I can't take them with me.

  8. Wait a MINUTE!

I thought the Raining Season was supposed to be over.

Now all day we got this wind, and drizzle.

Next we got a little more.

    And more.

Now it is raining plenty over here west of the northern tip of the runway.

I am not getting tired of this, the rain does not trouble me, overly.

I just prefer the dry air, more than the wet air, but any air is OK,

    If breathable.

Anyone know when the Raining Season will truly be over?

It will be good to see it gone.
