  1. Not everything in life is about "return on investment".

Do you know/understand the meaning of the word "home"?

I'm just happy I found a place where I feel "at home"... and I haven't once thought about my "return on investment". Instead, I just think of being outside in the fresh air all day, being my own boss, working for myself, enjoying the fresh fruit/vegetables, eggs, etc. and my cold bottle of beer at the end of a long and rewarding (emotionally speaking that is, not necessarily financially) day. It's something I can pass on to my children, if I ever have any that is.

Yeah! that's the spirit, I'm with you. It is all about "home". Who give a shit about the ROI when the subject is happiness?

Go for it! wai2.gifI'll be doing the same in a few years.

  2. Amazes me how they arrest all these highly wanted people from other countries, but yet when it comes to their own or a tourist is in need they are deaf dumb and blind.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant:

identified the three arrested suspects as a Thai citizen, Y. Ayyad, who was described as a member of a foreign operations unit of Hezbollah working out of East Asia

Thai citizen doesn't make him one of their own.

True, not by birth it seems.

This is a much better story: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-16543447

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said one man was being held over possible immigration offences.

"Technically the two men have not committed any crimes under the Thai law, so we could only use the immigration law to keep this one suspect in custody," he said.

The US embassy in Bangkok issued a warning on Friday that Americans should "exercise caution when visiting public areas where large groups of Western tourists gather".

It said they should "keep a low profile in public areas, particularly areas frequented by foreign tourists", without giving further details of the potential threat.

The Thai authorities had said there was no need for a general alert as it would "cause panic and affect our tourism".

Oh my goodness!!!! please do not shit your pants! Not here. facepalm.gif

  3. Well I have only been looking for a car the past few weeks ... So can't really comment on the 30% in the last six months. However I did find the price of a second hand car extremely expensive. I went to a Nissan dealer in Pattaya, I just wanted a small car, thought the Nissan March would be ideal. New price starts at 382,000 baht. This is for the basic model, and when they say basic .. Its basic, not even a radio !! The next model up had all the bits you expect on a car, price 444,000 baht. I spotted a second hand car and wandered over to have a look. It was in good condition, but had 72,000 kilometers on the clock. When I inquired I was told the car was 3 years old, the best bit, it was the basic model ... How much? 350,000 baht !!! 32,000 baht cheaper than a new one?

Can't be true! that ridiculous.. w00t.gif

  4. Why is it that with millions starving around the world the UN wastes valuable time and resources on producing endless toss like this?

100% Waste of time. I know people living in Cambodia and they love the country, despite the huge social problem, they love the quality. It is a subject very personal. This is a completely personal matter, what is good for you, does not mean it is good to me.

  5. Just keep the public stuffs (gov, police, imigration, .. use then only when you need, do not allow the "useless" to became part of you) out of your personal life and you will not get confused by corruption and suffering. You can trust have lots of people doing this right now!

The base of this world is corruption and suffering. Just learn how to avoid it at the best you can and you will feel much better, than you can live your life even in a war zone.

  6. Why I do not worry too much about what Thailand has or has not become:

Don't own property. Don't own a house. Not married. No children for whom I am legally responsible. Don't own a business. Not employed. Don't go to a shared work space and say I'm not working. Don't live in a tourist area. Don't much hang out with persons who speak or speak only English. Don't own a car. Don't frequent bars at 2 AM. ...

booo we have a ghost here in thaivisa! w00t.gif

  7. European or American food is not better than Asian food, especially Thai food. Since what you see is a lot of chubby americans eating humburgers, pastas, and whatever fat and unhealthy food. But it is quite normal there and nobody is doing nothing about. But in Thailand, everything is wrong? huh? what did you say?

Thailand was not colonized by europeans and it still being the same wild as it always was. just growing in proportions.

At least in Thailand you do not see fat people rolling all over as you see in US.

  8. I can't stop laugh here.. cheesy.gif

I think everybody that bought a scooter in Thailand had similar accidents. This remembered me years ago in Koh Mak (a small island in east thai gulf), when I was driving with my girlfriend and we fall down in a small hill.. no serious damages, but a broken finger was inevitable! Lots of funny time in thailand. enjoy your stay, I think there are no place in the world like thailand.
