Whatever the truth behind all these deaths...one day someone is going to write a movie script to tie all these stories together and it will be a scary movie. Need to send in a team of people undercover to ferret out the truth here. It has conflict, it has a need for justice, it has corruption, good vs evil.....Send in Reacher to clean up Koh Toh.
May all these people who have died rest in peace and the truth be found and may this be the last tragedy on that island that deserves a better story.

Ok no one seems to have listened to Trump "citing an unnamed but “informed source” . Made up news.
Ok so then lets say they do it. Has to be based on x days so will be a varying price by period of stay.
I go for 3 or 4 days each 2 months.
I they charged every foreigner 5 baht per day would probably cover every tourist in the whole country since 99% dont end up in hospital. I would be happy with that.

Yes it is simply rider error + driver error + attitude error + alcohol + lack of riding gear + maybe more. My friend had a small accident and was wearing runners and a helmet. Broken foot and everything else ok. Gear helps. Best insurance you can get is a good helmet gloves and boots.

Ok just to update this thread which has been going many years now. As of 1st Dec 2016 the visa costs and visa conditions have changed. Costs have more than doubled.
A one year MJEV is now 24000 baht! But you dont need to leave every 70 days and you will be given a year on entry.
There is a 3, 6 and 12 month like this.

Same conditions also apply to social visit visa now except they are cheaper. Probably will move to that visa next time as I am married. Only 18000 baht!
If you dont need the Multiple entry is is cheaper to spend a year on single entry business visas at 2000 baht per time.
So thats an update. Application process is the same for Business visa though.

There are four overland entry points into Myanmar from Thailand. You only have 2.
(a) Tachilek – Maisai
(b) Myawaddy – Mae Sot
(c) Htee Kee – Phunaron
(d) Kawthoung – Ranong
And it is Myanmar not Burma maybe......

Yes the method of dating has changed. You will notice that you get a green entry stamp now. With tick boxes for 3 6 and 12.
I am still on my 12 month 70 day each entry from last year which will get a blue entry stamp.
This new method took effect from 1 Dec 2016
Now the first time you enter they set the end date from that and each time you leave and come back that end date is the same.
For instance on a 3 month multiple entry which costs about $200 if you enter first time on it on January 9th they will give you till April 9th. (3 months). Then if you leave and come back in March 9th they will still put stay until April 9th. So you get 3, 6 or 12 from first entry on that visa. No more 70 days.
I have been to the airport and confirmed with the immigration about this change which was not published anywhere.

The compensation for the tourists is they are alive. I would take that as a good compensation any day of my life.

I watched the whole innauguration and enjoyed the speech and wish Trump the best, bet I have heaps of reservations as to what the actions are going to be to back up the words.
Trump is full of the most simplistic ideas that may be very hard to implement in the real world.
He has a lifetime of making bold attempts and failing to fulfill them. He will repeat the same.
We are going to get daily Trump speak.
Everything according to him is going to stop now. 2 days later the drugs are still there in the USA. 4 years later they will still be there. I hope he improves things but the Trump speak has always been Trump speak.
Actions speak louder than words and past performance is the greatest indicator of a persons likely outcomes.
There is some good and bad things in his past and I would expect the same moving forward.
But his whole like is full of mixed success and horrible failures and big big dreams that never came to fruition.
4 years later it will be like that. And he will always spin it that he was better and did more than anyone else.
Give him a month and you will already see what a failure he is going to be. But he will come out saying everything is terrific now. He is a bs artist par excellence. That was a great deal Donald you sold a heap of lies to the Republican party. Greatest sale of hot air in history. Now we get to laugh at America for 4 years.

Doesnt not appear to me as either of these are reasonable to assume.
If you leave a grenade on a railway track maybe you are hoping that the train will run it down and detonate it and derail the train and bring down the bridge and maim and kill to boot. Seems just as plausible to me?
But we would not want to scare tourists would we?

Why is this news? Because it sets an example that others can follow. Other taxi drivers read the story and they follow the same line of thought. Then over time a habit and reputation develops. Its good its an inspiration people read it and think i will do the same.
Wasnt it dionysis who walked around with a lamp in the day in search of an honest man? Here is one. I have done the same.

This story is being lost in translation to all of you. You are biased by your cultural background.
But what is going on here is teaching kids that no one needs to follow rules.
By the time they are 15 the lesson will be well and truly learnt.
They make an announcement and then in 7 days all is forgotten.
Then next year they make the same announcement.
You see the pattern...... Do you understand how it goes here.

Isnt it great that as soon as we leave home we are virtually disowned by our govt?
But if you look at the figures closely I think we are being racially profiled in the USA. Out ranks Thailand.
What a nerve we Aussie travelers have to expect our govt to give us help if in distress.
Nope once you have paid the big dollars for a passport you are out on your own.
I am glad I have never needed their help because I would not want to ruin the champagne trails afternoon tennis match at the Australia club where those Aussie Diplomats and Govt officials use tax payers money to live a high life and look down on any unfortunate Aussie who may need a helping hand.

Yes there is a way of looking at it like that but ask yourself whether that is what the buddha meant? When the the buddha describes aging sickness death and rebirth he was not using those modern styles. He was using common language and meaning. He taught a cyclic existence of never ending birth and death. And all of that cycle is casually impermanent from moment to moment.

A little off topic but yes I have told many people to get trained. Ignored. Had a young girl whose parents let her drive a new car and it has spent a few months getting fixed now as she had an accident. :) . People here dont want to be bothered to learn, think they know it all, saves money and time for a while and then they learn the hard way.
