I heard the government is very happy that the Covid infection rate plummeted because of the alcohol ban. 

Now they are considering even more effective ways to fight the virus.

Next mama noodles will be banned, people with an S in their name will not be allowed cannot to enter Bangkok. Also people  with shoes size 6 or 7 are not allowed to sing after 2 pm except they are wearing a checked shirt or a pink mask.

Now they blame it all on the virus. Tourism to Thailand has been going down for a long time (except for chinese may be- but would it be clever to rely on this one nation only?). In particular the Westerners have found greener pastures already. The reason is caused by the Thais themselves. If they don't learn the golden times will not come back

Common sense would suggest that the reason for banning the booze is to prevent Somchais from sitting in groups and drinking, then after killing some brain cells going off to do other inappropriate things which would spread the virus, such as returning to hug and kiss family members.

Without 'generalising' I think it's fair to say that the government mainly target low-income Thai males as the target group to control in this case. From experience, these guys are completely incapable of buying in advance and rationing the booze for even a few days, never mind a month. This is partly because they don't have the money, and mainly because they can't control themselves or trust their buddies not to cheat. They drink all they have until it's gone.

In this sense, the 2-day window and a new ban makes sense, allowing expats and more wealthy to stock up and ration.

You think the Thai government is capable of such an elaborate consideration?

This is the point i'm trying to make. These are nice gestures but does nothing beside getting admiration of small minded people.
But go ahead an do it if it make you feel good and you get a adrenaline kick from people waing to you all day.

No I wouldn't adore you. It is not the money value that you give - or don't. It is the mindset. A mindset of kindness and compassion is of high value. And this is the point here.

Some would say its better than nothing but i think that these actions do more harm than good.
The starving people must turn their attention to the government to come up with long term solution instead of standing in line begging for food from local citizens and foreigners. I thought the proud thai and their government would not accept charity from strangers. Instead the should be standing outside government buildings demanding their rights.
These farangs and thais buy them self happiness with some bags of rice and eggs but for how long can they do that? A week? Two weeks?

People are starving it nothing on the horizon indicate any improvment. Hungry people might come back and can turn aggressive if you turn them back so what do you do then mr farang?
There is so much worse misery in the world so do you think that you bag of rice do any difference think again. It's arrogant to think that you have done any difference with this "charity". If it makes you feel good then think again on why you are doing it.

Sorry, but stories like this really p me off.

This is not true. There is no state pension in Germany for people who never worked. They need to go to welfare. And another one: This pensioner was due to fly back may be ealier than next week, but that plane might not have been available. So he had to spend the rest of his money for the unplanned longer stay.

Changing to a kind and welcomeing attitude to people from the west same as from China might do the trick. If they again open to China only Thailand will belong to Chinese soon.

Unbelievable in a civilized democratic country
