  1. Really, the dogs piss on the towels.

So you agree there are dogs roaming the beach pissing all over the chairs then too.

I will revise my estimate then. Maybe there are 3 or 4 or more dogs pissing all over them every night.

That translates to 14,600 possible times a dog has pissed on the chairs over a ten year period.

A quik calculation and yuk...Possible 1,295 liters of dog piss on those nice chairs you like so much.

The chairs never seemed to attract the pissing dogs. Besides there is the advantage of height. Maybe the pissed- on towel- owners (henceforth known as POTO) have dogs and the beach dogs are marking over the POTO dog's scent.

  2. New gas station with air? Where? That gi-normous Caltech [sic?] has everything but air.

Thais and all peoples evolved from the tropical belt have a problem planning for a future. Has to do with abundant food resources, there was never a survival need to think past reaching for a banana or checking the nets.

That's why Thais with Chinese heritage are so successful in business here- cold weather forces future thought and civil cooperation. Thay also do not seem to ever be in governmental positions. Are they locked out, or just smarter than than?

It's not the race, but the heritage.

  3. First they tried to rip everybody off , now they are holding their hands up for help, nice bunch !!!

None of them ever forced me to buy something. Sure the beachchairs and the beachmassage will be missed by tourists.

no, is not so. all the tourist (and this was a high number, about 50) i have asked say its much better now without beachchairs rental. now they are free to lay down an th beach whereever they want without getting ripped off.

My queries of tourists on Bang tao were almost all nay- Especially near the recent destruction of the mid beach attractions. However, Bang Tao wasn't ever packed with chairs and is a 4 mile long beach that is now rather desolate.

  4. Reuters say that pw published part of the story and took it out of context which is why they claim to not have offered support to the 2. In fairness though what a pole of rubbish on Reuters behalf.

The way I remember it was text published from Reuters as its own without disclosing the true authors. I suppose the rationale was they had contributed much of the information within the article, but....

Fairly much an unpardonable sin in the journalism world.

  5. Right OP, so the better idea was to let the businesses continue to operate illegally and make bribe payments to local officials to continue to operate.

Yes, it might take awhile to clear the remains, what are you thinking there "I dream of Jeanie" (?) snap the fingers and all the remnants disappear?

Also, please stop with the Middle East comparisons, it's not even close to that and over the top dramatic.

A war zone, whether religiously or financially motivated, or in this case ( IMO ) a militarized elite vs relatively disadvantaged working classes, is the same, all over the world , in every decade. So the effective hyperbole remains.

While I understand Thais appear incapable of governing themselves -restricting sheers magnitude of vendors and/ or restaurants, I think what would have been a far better solution-and I am speaking only of Bang - Tao, would have been to hold a lottery of sorts with winners paying a tax to buy beach maintenance equipment .

Again Bang Tao, or the middle to north parts ( Lay Pang to Layan) that I am very familiar with, was not inundated with beach chairs , only the restaurants had them out.

  6. If they clean it up 100 percent, it's going to be beautiful , but, I do have my reservations.

It's not Rocket Science to place a few Waste bins every 100 yards, and have them emptied when needed.

Simple things, that can restore Phuket to it's former glory...

Being a resident like a lot on TV , I am keeping my fingers crossed...., it all works out...

Waste bins? Dumpsters every 10 meters are what are needed. I fear this smaller debris will simply be allowed to remain, and come high season we will have more stories of impaled feet.

It is also regretful a wet land is being filled in. [ Correction that is Pasak Soi 4 not Paclok as on OP ]

I will concede Laguna has removed the restaurant huts, in front of Banyan Tree.

So what was one of the finest beaches in SEA, is now 4 miles of debris, with nothing to do...

You wanted a natural beach experience , then why not go to the Marine Park, that is at far north UNTIL the thumping bass house music from accoustically offensive Nikki Bitch Club was permitted.. Jaysus they got it bass-ackwards on that one.

Also the only three restaurants to eat on the beach, now clustered together far north at the Park entrance,

  7. The larger rubble has been removed and dumped into a local wetland on Paklok Soi 4,but seems authorities will allow the detritus to become a hazard to beach goers for the years to come.

Sorry, I have no idea how to post larger pictures Please click on pics to view full size album, and use arrow to scroll through. It is disgusting in an extreme.

One of three restaurants left to eat on a 4 mile beach- both next to Nikki Beach Club- for elitist snobs who will pay 10,000 baht a day for a lounger. Hope you like loud house music at your National Marine Park

Wonder if a EIA certificate was acquired in the filling of this wetland on Paklok Soi 4 with the rubble ? ( Yes followed the truck and it is being filled with about 6 trucks per hour. For last 10 days !!

  8. I heard Krix Luther held one of his boot camp cleanups. I wonder if that was it. Kind of sounds like one of the Green Club activities organized by SEEK, but I am cc'ed on all their activities and didn't see anything. Steelepulse, do you know what group it was?

I know a Western couple who have lived here for a number of years who have taken it upon themselves to clean Nai Harn and the surrounding beaches at least once a week. The last time they did a clean up of Nai Harn, they came away with ten bags of trash. I have also noticed some of the Thai artists in the area on the beaches in the morning taking away trash and various other items that have washed up on the shore to make recycled art.

I don't have anything to do with Krix Luther and his boot camp cleanups, but I do know that the Kamala Green Club has been active recently in beach cleanups.

I was at Nai Harn early Saturday morning and it was looking a lot cleaner than it initially had - I picked up a few items of trash I found, as well as my dog's contribution, and headed home after that. In a perfect world, all of us who live here and actually care about the beaches would do our part in picking up bits and pieces when we are on the beach ... I'm sure some of the posters on this forum will slaughter me for having that mentality, but it seems like an easy solution.

I have always picked up trash. It gets a bit discouraging when two 30 kilo feed bags are filled on a 20 meter stretch of beach.

Of course now, it is beyond repair ( Mid Bang-Tao aka Laypang

  9. ^ Influential friends? How is it a gang of thugs, internationally well known for rip offs assaults and intimidation are still operating. Gosh whatever could it be? Mmmmm? Such a puzzle. It just doesn't fit in with the rest of the " clean" up.

Is there a problem on this forum that you can't use the quote function? How many people "influential" people were arrested in Patong today? Do follow the news here? I guess not, when it doesn't serve your propaganda. Whoops, I fed the troll.

Not at all, but if the post is above my answer, the arrow key suffices, ( unless you are desperately grasping at insult straws...) No influential Jet ski operators have been arrested to my knowledge.

Or are you OT and referring to Taxi " Mafia,"? I think the influential persons on that have escaped for now. However I agree many taxi operators are outside the law, and behave in a negative manner- and should be negated, but I maintain my stance on the beach clearings

Yes, I follow the news quite closely and it has me very worried.

Can we get you off the attack mode for a moment, and would you please care to inform us why Jet Skis are still operating on Potong? Or can you not answer as it doesn't fit in with your agenda- which is to ignore whatever you cannot fit into your notions of a benevolent dictatorship?

  11. I really hope they can Clean out the jetskies.

Yes, why are the jetskis still operating on Patong?

Any why are there still supersized Taxi sala operating at two locations near Laguna, (but parking on the public street.)

Must be nice to have friends in high places.

The militarized elite are now 90% in control.

  12. People crying about the loss of the beach chair/umbrellas don't realize that virtually all the TAT beach promotion photos show pristine beaches.

Tourists are coming expecting to see what is advertised, not some makeshift beach shanty town slum.

And by the way, at night, the beach dogs and drunks piss all over those chairs and tables. Enjoy.

And now the dogs piss on the towels in the sand while the owners are in the water.

Really? Is that the best you could come up with? Maybe your dog! Certainly not mine! She won't even piss in her own yard not alone on my towel! Although she does walk on it and leave sand at times. I've been over that for years, unlike you and your "poor" illegal beach vendor saga. Now I'm happy they are gone, as I've never wanted beach loungers in the first place on the King's land. The beach is as it should be. Sand, Sea and Sun as my old hometown's city logo says.

The stray dogs that roam the beach near where I live piss on towels that are on the sand . Just an observation you don't need to argue with it...or maybe you do.

  13. @SVB Thanks for bringing new sources of articles to the News forum. This article, while is was not fully accurate as it was partly written in positive future tense, was a fresh breath the the normal news.

The psychology, people's feeling and general ability to look forward is the key to solve the issues which Phuket has. That's why, specially at this moment, it's so important to maintain the good general feeling to the changes which are happening in Phuket right now.

When large changes happen, there is always resistance. Some people will complain that the changes are not fast enough. Some will criticize the priorities on which order changes are made. Some people are just too impatient to wait things to get back to normal. Some people are simply Me, myself and I personalities who demand that their needs are put to the front of the queue, regardless what would be best for everybody else.

And I'm quite sure your sentiments are exactly what Pol Pot, and every other Asian despot counted on. Hell I'll throw in a few European ones too.

Sorry the newly annointed PM doesn't fool me one iota and he proved it with his first action on his very first day to request immigration to not follow rules on in and out tourist visas as it "will affect teachers..," totally contradicting the work permit requirements. Talk about populist BS !!

When ( or more likely, if) martial law is ever lifted, and we get a look at what is going right now to political prisoners - I think history will agree with me .

  15. Ahem..

Well according to a poll on Phuket News, not many seem to agree with Bulldozer or EB.

    http://www.thephuketnews.com/crime-not-a-big-issue-in-phuket-crackdown-poll-48037.php

    Whoaaaaa there.

Ok. This might merit a letter to the editor for dismal math skills ( 101%) not to mention a piss poor survey in way of response framing.

28 %agree outright that crime will rise, 36 % say "neigh" and 28% claim they were already breaking the law so what's the difference .. and 9% say the army will mitigate the effects ostensibly of " .. a rise in crime," ( meaning the army will start behaving, well as they have been and forum rules prevent me from elaborating?)

    28% yes + 28 "already were criminals so what's new...?" + 9% "Army will take care of it..." = 65 % vs. 36 % which equals er, 101%

The survery , and it is piss poor I admit, reads almost 2 to 1 believe crime will rise.

And even taking away the rather questionable and oddly framed 9 % of the Army will take care of it - 56% believe crime will rise.

Most do not. Just 28 per cent agreed with the statement “I worry that there is going to be a huge rise in violent crime as people lose their livelihoods.”

Thirty-six per cent chose the option, “I don’t think so”, while another 9 per cent voted for “I trust the Army to mitigate the effects of unemployment.”

The remaining 28 per cent agreed with the statement, “The people encroaching, and the taxi mafia were already committing crimes, so what’s the difference?”

  16. EB if you are in the vicinity you may like to get a snap and post it here.

My dear BD, I don't think he will, he told me he's not your buddy, so sad sad.png and after all the work you've done to keep us all informed about the 'class war'.

Pray tell us what we should do to prepare for the backlash from the 'poor' people. Should we be girding our loins in redness? - Sorry, I meant to say 'readiness' oops!

^ Is there anyone who can actually present a cohesive argument that the sudden evaporation of thousands of jobs will have no affect whatsoever on crime?

'cause the petty insults really aren't conclusive.

How about addressing the (incredibly flawed) poll in PN that "proved" most people think it will.

And if your story of 14 million is true , it actually proves the basis of the arguement that people are being hurt financially.

What has been achieved is the working class' ability to elevate their financial situation has evaporated. And many many of those workers are poor, and do have real concerns now about where will they get the rent. It truly is just... mean to discount their plight.

  17. Actually Jimi, you kinda avoided the premise of my question and ran with whether prostitution is legal or not .

    So, I'll ask it again;

would it be fair if any buddies were rounded up with prostitutes and arrested? Or somebody with a nominee company, I'm sure we all know people with those, some owning land were suddenly stripped of assets?

In short doing whatever thousands of others are doing, illegal yes , but sanctioned through lack of enforcement.

I couldn't say. I know very few farang here and I see them rarely and they have been here longer than I and have Thai wives. I know a lot more Thais than farangs. You seem to know more about how prostitution works here than I, it would seem. Again, apples to oranges… Right?

Do you not understand the mechanics of a hypothetical question? IF is the operative word. More likely you realize I have a point but find it difficult to concede and prefer use of obtuse comments.

You seem to know more about how prostitution works here than I, it would seem.
