  1. Pizza Company for me. Half hour or less delivery, fair prices (if you shop their specials) and a consistant product.

I do usually get the extra cheese and one of the sausages are more like hotdogs but other than that, I'm happy.

  2. how much is the cable/internet bill per month?

and how do you guys arrange payment for these bills when you're out of the

E-banking would be the answer. Through internet you can pay anything

The condo office where I'm at will pay the electricity and water for you as long as you're on time and not behind. I usually keep several thousand baht in my account before I leave so there's little chance my stuff will get turned off due to non-payment.

  3. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

My condo has free cable and the internet can be purchased by the day or month. Usually I use my phone as a hotspot and get unlimited internet through AIS. I turn the water off and trip the breakers to the A/C and water heater. The cost to run the refrigerator is next to nothing, keeps my beer cold for when I return.

Your bldg must be pretty cool, I turned off my AirCon, came back a month later and had to throw out most of my clothes - mold had set in because it was so hot & humid in there..........the bldg manager ordered new curtains and tried to make me pay for them as well, I paid half since it was my fault. Don't turn off your aircon, just turn it down to about 25.......and suck it up. alt=thumbsup.gif>

I've been living there for about a year and a half, no mold yet that I'm aware of. The clothes are mostly hung up in a wardrobe and no mold there either. I've read about the mold issues but have never experienced any. I'm on the 6th floor, maybe that makes a difference, don't know.

  4. It's pretty clear the OP is going to be using baht buses.

Not "pretty clear" to me, he mentioned bussing it into Pattaya. I suppose motorbike taxi's, taxi's or renting a scooter, car or pickup wouldn't be an option then.

I drive a scooter but I refuse to drive it into Pattaya because of all of the conjestion and crazy drivers that abound there. Because of this I bus to Pattaya also, sometimes taking a taxi. I couldn't imagine limiting myself to getting around based on a baht bus only.

  5. I recently got dinged for 500 baht at a roadside check. Had my helmet on, had my stateside license, had my international permit but it was quickly pointed out that the permit didn't have scooters on it. I was given the option of getting a ticket and then driving to the courthouse to take care of it or paying the 500 baht on the spot. I opted for paying on the spot. Funny though he wouldn't accept the payment outside, we had to go inside the traffic shack and then I was allowed to pay it. I was in no mood to bargain or argue, just glad to get the h*ll out of there. As others have mentioned, that's a bargain compared to what it would have been back home.

Lesson learned, go get a scooter license and in the mean time don't venture out so far, keeping off the main roads.

  6. Would you be so kind as to point me where these photographs are?

Personally I found watutsi's dialog to be abusive.

    Roger

Personally, I found his (apparent) monologue was meant constructive. At that time he was upset because he cared about this place. All he did was expressing his feelings by using catchy metaphores, like Chimpansee for instance.

I want watutsi to stay. Sometimes he didn't post for a month or more and it was a feast and celebration everytime he did. There are not many members who can make a spark like that with me. We need members like him.

He made a statement by taking his art with him. There's your answer: Show of good charachter.wai.gif

    DAL

Okay, that explains why there are no pictures from his profile, appreciate that.

  7. enough of this crap,

thanks to all who had positive things to say

    i have left the building

You received constructive (as well unconstructive) criticism from me and various other forum members how people wish to see the future of the forum.

You can now either learn from the criticism, or simply ignore it. I don't think anyone wishes you to leave the building. Different opinions are always great thing to have around. Those give often an fast line to learning something completely new.

He said he left already, Oilinky..His black&white way of thinking saddens mesad.png.pagespeed.ce.5zxzyGiJz0.png.

I still remain biologised with his work. Especially the shady, smokie chop shops in the dirty back streets, watutsi can photograph so well.

  8. I wear shorts as a matter of comfort. As long as the locals are wearing them and it is a tourist area I really don't care what others may think.

As a matter of courtesy and respect, anytime I have an appointment with a government official, doctor, or etc. I will dress up a tad and wear long pants and possibly a collared shirt.

  9. My solution may or not fit what you want to do but it works for me, and I avoid the double whammy of fees when taking cash out of the ATM.

While in Thailand open a Paypal account that is from Thailand, it must be opened while you're in country or they won't let you do it. They didn't for me anyway.

Open a local savings account that offers a VISA ATM debit card. I chose Kasikorn and it works great for me, you may have to try a couple of branches as every branch seems to have their own rules.

When transferring funds I gift myself from one Paypal account to the other then transfer those funds to my savings account. The cost for $1000 and up is like $5 and I'm sure they're getting some profit when they convert the currencies. The first time I did this Paypal asked me to call and verify the transaction, no verifications have been needed since.

This process can take a week or two until the funds finally get to my savings but if you have the time the savings from not having ATM fees can be substantial.

I do have a 15 baht fee for foreign ATM's with my Kasikorn card when I use a different ATM from a different branch, but 15bt is nothing compared to what I was getting hosed for. Also some ATM's will allow a 30,000 baht withdrawal, and most will allow 20,000 baht with the Kasikorn VISA ATM card, which is nice.

    Hope this helps,

    Roger

paypal requires you to provide them with your particulars which would include your home address and everything after 7k in transactions are done and i have a paypal account that is fully verified. Well to open a new paypal account in a foreign country wouldn't really make sense and yes the exchange rates of paypal aren't too good. Suck if i might add. I think it's the same as those banks that charge 2-3% on top of the rates.

The reasoning behind opening a Thai PayPal account is that the US PayPal account won't accept the Swift codes required for linking the Thai savings account.

    Regards,

    Roger

  11. Wrong, it is required.
I just joined a Thai language course here in Samui at a place called Thai Language Solutions.
I solicited ALL the schools here and they all asked for a bank statement.
Do your homework and you'll see for yourself.
50,000 baht is required, by the gov.
Sorry folks, but this is going by first hand experience.

I just interviewed two Jomtien area language schools and there is no requirement for income other than the tuition and visa fees. The requirements you speak of are the first I've read of.
