  1. The country needs major reforms on every area. Gone are the days that the military and courts could rape the people of the north of Thailand through various coups. Bangkok has to share the wealth and power with the provinces, and the country needs urgent modernisation and development. The rules and laws of today are solely to protect the elite and ruling class, but those days are over. ALL of Thailand and all Thais should benefit in the future, not only the old elite, including the generals and their families.

  2. We are closer to civil war than I ever thought possible here but I still don't think there are enough Thai people stupid enough to go down that road. There are a few cowardly terrorists willing to kill children but I bet they would not have what it takes to fight facing an enemy that fights back.

"......I bet they would not have what it takes to fight facing an enemy that fights back."

Yes, and I wonder how the Thai army would deal with an enemy that was able to fight back

Don't you read the news from the deep south of Thailand.

  3. I am planning to buy a residential unit in Thailand and move here for a longer period of time. I would like to bring some of my household goods with me into the new house. I was told by customs, that because I don't have a proper long term visa, that I would have to pay very high duties.

Anyway I plan to study the thai language, so I figure I could just as well get a student visa, but would that also make me eligible to bring the household goods (old furniture and kitchen things) in free of duty?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  4. Suthep has no power whatsoever. It is his backers who control his every move. Now they are realizing that ousting the government is not that easy, because in the game of political power, Thaksin is the master. They will not get what they want, which is absolute control over Thailand and ousting the Thaksin family. Also, the proses is taking so long that it is hurting their business interests, and the number of protesters have dwindled for every day. Internationally the protesters lost the legitimacy they once had. When they were fighting the amnesty bill, they had international support and sympathy. Then they made the mistake of attacking the Thai democracy, using violence and threats and causing problems for tourists and foreign investors. It's clear that they can't get what they want. Maybe they can get a partial victory if there is such a thing.

However, it is equally clear that the Thaksins can't govern like before. The country is too divided.

  5. coup next week for sure.

The red shirts won't surrender this time. I just hope the yellow shirts and army remember they brought it all on themselves.

    What red shirts?

The last time that they tried to take Bangkok and oust the anti government protestors they realized that they had made a very big mistake and went back home with their tails between their legs.

Now they are reduced to carrying out cowardly hit & run terrorist tactics.

The red shirts are loosing support at a rate of knots and are now a spent force.

Are you really so soft in the head that you believe these bullies can take on the army?

They hit n run tactics have brought the army to its knees in the south of Thailand where it's being destroyed by a few hundred poorly trained Muslims. I dread to think what thousands of red fanatics, of whom many have weapons and weapons training from army and police.

  6. Sadly, the courts and NACC comes across as extremely biased. These "independent" institutions have undermined their credibility over the years, so of course the reds will feel hurled against them from these as unjustice, and if the courts can't give you justice, than vigilantism is the result. All of Thailand's governments, including the current, have failed miserably, but so has the courts. It will be impossible to build up the trust in the near future.

  7. In Central Food Hall yesterday afternoon. One last bottle of Fuller's London Pride on the shelf. I'll have that, I thought and was about to put it into the basket when a sudden realisation hit me: it was only 4 o'clock.

So my evening tipple was scuppered by one of the most stupid laws in Thailand.

I understand your grievances. If they had the stocks, you could have bought 20 bottles to get an exemption. I did that once. I was going to buy 5-6 bottles of Fuller's at Tesco, but I was late by 3 minutes at the cashier and it suddenly became impossible, so I went back in and got 15 bottles more, as from 10 liters and above the rules don't apply.

A good alternative to London Pride is Well's Bombardier at Villa Market Chalong. It reminds me of London Pride in many ways. At 145bht for 500ml it's not nearly as expensive as the Hook Norton, St Austell or Wadworth beers, not to mention the +300bht Shepherd's Neame sold at Central.

  8. I doubt she is guilty of any corruption. If mismanagement is a crime, then Abhisit and Suthep should have been charged as well for their mismanagement of Thailand a few years ago.

A pure military coup would be much better than what is happening now, where the courts, NACC are operating outside the law and acting biased. Had these institutions (and many more) done their done their job unbiased and with pride, skill honesty over the last decades, Thailand would have been a much better place. It is vital that these institutions are politically neutral, but it is blatantly obvious that they are political tools in the current power struggle. It's a shame.

  9. "Stocks of Shinawatra family businesses listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand plummeted during the morning trade with SC Asset leading the plunge to fall 4.94% from yesterdays close."

The free market economy at work. If a political group doesn't have enough votes or political clout, they can try to wield their economic power. This has been done time and time again. In the US, this has worked for the gays and for the Hispanics.

InTouch can try to convince its customers and shareholders that it has clean hands in its prior dealings with Thaksin. Good luck.

TMB, AirAsia, MLINK, ITV, Voice TV, SATTEL, Shin Satellite, ADVANC, SC, INTUCH, etc also belong to Thaksin.

TMB, Air Asia, ITV, Intouch do not belong to Thaksin.

Suthep has said that he knows that Intouch is no longer owned by Taksin, he has decided to punish them because they bought the shares from Taksin and he did not pay the tax.

Punish the foreign and thai investors who happen to own shares in a non-Thaksin company?

Suthep will inflict more damage to the thai economy than the rice scheme ever did..
