JL,

Foreign Currency Account
Foreigners can open a Foreign Currency Account (i.e. USD or Euros) in Thailand as well. No fees for the account, but often a minimum amount of 5,000 or 10,000 USD or Euros is requested.
Interest is different, depending on the conditions, bank and on the currency of the account.
Money into a foreign currency account can be put by wiring from abroad (in foreign currency).
Deposit of cash money in foreign currency is limited to 10,000 USD per person and per day and normally only possible for Thai Residents.
Withdrawal is not restricted and you can send money from such accounts to abroad as well.

Hi JL,
Depending where you are in Thailand and what visa you have will be the hard part to opening an account.
If in Pattaya I opened mine (Kasikorn) at the Big C North and opened a Internet account on same day.
They used to send pin and passwords via my Yahoo account but now do it to a thai mobile.
Only way around this would to have a thai sim with gobal roaming on it with enough credit to recieve
the pins which are required for most things you do vai the internet.
If you can do this and can put up with the hassle of pins via mobile give it a go.
I have used my Card while in Oz to take money out as well.
Drop into your nearest Kasikorn or phone them and see if thay can help out.
Best of Luck

While it is announced quite early when bars are likely to be closed for a Buddhist holiday or a National special event like this one, the actual official note from municipality and/or police is awaited on the off-chance that a local ruling might be different. Sometimes that official note is delivered very close to the actual date and any advance notice to customers is then also going to be late.why
Thanks for explaining this so well Peter I never fully understood why the informaion seems to come out of the bule sometimes.
Make life intresting for the bar owners and us drinkers that's for sure.
I know in Bali their New Years Day you are confined to the hotel grounds and they remove the TV's from your room and give you candles. Your not allowed to venture out into the streets, but that's only one day a year.
-
Would it be possible to get a link pinned with the closing dates of bars each month..?
The kind bar owners could give us a head's up.
This would be great to know and plan for the closing date and stock up before hand
I've always wondered why the bars don't post it up to let their customers know
or the local goverment post it about.
Then again TIT

There is no such thing as Honda insurance - Honda dealers supply insurance from any insurance company who gives them the biggest commission - and that can vary from year to year. Ask your friend(?) for a copy of the present insurance and it will have the name of the insurance company on it - go to them to renew if you want
Thanks JoePai,
Your spot on it was insurance they got when they brought the vehicle, it was given as an extra.
All the documention is locked up in their house, so I'll have wait till I'm there.
I was hoping there was one company and I could get it sorted before I arrive.
Thanks for the reply

Break in at Suksabai Villa
A house in Suksabai Villa was reported broken into in the morning of 3rd May when the owner of the house came back from a night out.
This story is a warning to all house owners to beware even how locked and safe you think it is - sometimes it is not. Mr. Prasert Saksuea stated to the police that he resides at this house alone since his Taiwanese girlfriend went home to Taiwan for a holiday.
Mr. Saksuea is a dancer at X-Zyte Disco and went to work at approximately 9 pm. When he returned in the morning he found the front door open, the back door open, and a 2 inch saw that the uninvited visitors had left behind.
When he ran up to the second floor he found that his bedroom door was wide open. The frame of the door was damaged from the knife that the thieves left behind.
Many valuables were stolen from the room including a computer, home theatre set, and most importantly his girlfriend’s Taiwanese bank account containing 3 million Baht plus the ATM card to get access to the account.
The police have kept the evidence and took fingerprints and surely soon the thieves should be arrested.
Hi,
What good would the ATM Card be without the pin number, seems it would be totally useless.
And if he'd got on the phone to his girlfriend she would be able to simply cancel the ATM card.

Dr Aree at Pattaya International Hospital is a first class dentist, if you require another speciaility she will refer you to one of her suitable colleagues, in the course of my root canal treatment/crown, I had the root canal specialist and then to reduce the uneven gum another lady Dr.
With respect Banglamung Hospital has a reputation for fleecing farang and I would never go there for anything.
PIH soi 6 Beach Road, Soi nearly opposite Big C Festival on 2nd Road Phone:038428374.
There are other threads about Dr Arees excellence.
Hi fisherd3,

ABC Australia
Foreign Correspondent
Interview with Thaksin Shinawatra
Broadcast: 13/02/2007
NEWSMAKER
SERIES 16
EPISODE 21
Synopsis
The deposed Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra, toppled by a military coup last September while he was in the United States, has given the ABC an exclusive interview during a brief visit to Australia.
Mr Thaksin, a billionaire businessman has been in exile ever since the coup, travelling the world, playing golf, shopping, hiring international lobbying and public relations firms and it seems, taking an active interest in real estate.
As he tells reporter Helen Vatsikopoulos, he’s now keen to buy a mansion in Sydney’s expensive eastern suburbs.
Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin tells Helen Vatsikopoulos in Sydney that he’s not planning to return to Thailand in the near future.
“I’m not considering going back yet because I have to worry about my safety and I also should not add any more confusion to the situation in Thailand now, “ Mr Thaksin said.
Mr Thaksin insists that he is not engaged in international lobbying against the military junta running Thailand. And though he wants the country to return to democracy, he’s finished with politics forever.
“You will not see me in politics, not just the next generation, but for life. I want to devote myself to charitable activities and some kind of research. “
Mr Thaksin says the military have no reason to fear him and he struck a distinctly conciliatory tone with the men who tossed him out of power.
“I would urge everybody concerned not to worry about me. I’m not going to create any problems as a former PM. I’m mature enough, I have to be very constructive for my country. I have to be sure that anything I say might have an impact on my own country. “

Brisbane Australia Honorary Thai Consulate Closing On March 27, 2015
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

I emailed Bill Dunn today saying I was sad to hear via Thaivisa of his retirement and he should read the many great comments left on it, here is part of his reply which may help us all understand the situation better.
From Bill Dunn.
I have been trying to retire for the last three years, but no answer was the stern
reply from them's above me. I did have a couple of Aces to play. I was the landlord to the Consulate, having built the
joint to enable a move from Wickham Terrace about 15 years ago. I accelerated my retirement plans by putting the
place on the market at the end of this January. One great charity quickly purchased the place and will put their brass
on my lawyers desk this coming Friday, and they take possession straight away. I'm left with a life account of enough
to get a good few frothies down the throat in my proposed immediate retirement in the Kingdom with the child bride.
