  1. I recently left my job with a Thai employer (September 30) and went to the Social Security Office at Silom to sign up as an individual payer in early October.

However, the Social Security Office officials indicated that I need to process and receive a retirement payment (I am over 55 years old) prior to processing my application as a single payer—and that this retirement payment would take 3 months to process. I understand that both the retirement payment and sign-up as a single payer could be completed concurrently until just recently.

Does anyone have recent experience with this?  Thanks

  2. Hi - I am American and I'm looking for a US based phone number that would be able to receive an SMS in Thailand - forwarded to my Thailand phone number (is this possible?).

Many of the login systems in the US are moving toward two factor (SMS) authentication. I have a US based Skype number where calls are forwarded to my Thailand phone, but this Skype number is not enabled to receive SMS.

Thanks for any suggestions and advice.

  3. Thanks for the replies. I have consulted with an orthopedic Dr and osteopath. It seems I have a back & hip sports injury that affects the nerve function to the legs - all the way to the soles of my feet. Lyrica (pregbalin) does provide some relief. Does anyone have recommendations for a pain management clinic or Dr that specializes in pain management?

  4. Many thanks for all the very helpful replies and advice here.

For the Tabien Baan Blue Book - is there a time requirement for completion of this task (e.g. similar to the time requirements of 30 days for the Immigration PR Blue Book and then 7 days for the District Police Office Red Book)?

Also, in regard to the PR fee at Immigration (191,400 THB in my case) - is it best to bring cash - or - perhaps a Thai Bank cashiers check? Does the PR Unit have a preferred method of payment? Thanks...

  5. After approval letters are issued, could someone please advise on the task of obtaining the PR Blue Book and multiple re-entry non-quota immigrant visa?

Is this a process that I could do on my own (e.g. similar to a routine pending PR approval 6 month extension of stay)? Or would it be useful to have a Thai colleague come along to assist? Are there specific forms to fill out for the PR Blue Book and re-entry visa? I cannot find anything online on the Immigration website.

Also, same questions for the Red Book at the district police office. is this relatively straightforward - or should I plan on arranging for a Thai colleague to assist me?

Thanks very much for your advice.

  6. My understanding is that all of the pending applications at Interior have been sent back to Immigration for updating the status of the applicants (e.g. still in Thailand, anticipating decision about final approval, etc.). I understand the plan is then for Immigration to send back to Interior for review and decisions about final approval during 2015 -- and then re-open for new applications in December 2015
