  2. i live under a rock and haven't been watching the news recently. is bangkok becoming rather dangerous for tourists at this point? we have our trip planned for 30th may, and will be staying at sukhumvit 20, which im guessing is close to the hotel which was shot at. As a first time traveller (of any country) im oviously uneducated in regards to what areas to avoid etc. Are their some places more dangerous than others? Any particular places best to avoid? Also after reading that dog meat article, im an extremely against eating "mans best friend". which places are known to use this type of meat as i would like to avoid them - do street venders use dog meat for their dishes?

you gotta be crazy going there

  3. Should also get rid of street vendors in those same areas. Whenever you get out of a car or even bus, you can't find the opening to the sidewalk because of the crowded vendor stalls.

    aha ,yes

but those vendors pay "rent" for that place to grill pork or run a restaurant on the sidewalk

it wouldnt make sense financially to clear the sidewalks for their intended use, such as walking .......rolleyes.gif

hmmm, the attitude these vendors have if you push your way through the public sidewalk ,it's as if you are going on their private property

  4. The lowest common denominator of almost every violent situation in Thailand is a Thai male, or a group of Thai males. The darker in color they are, the lower their job is, and if booze is thrown into the mix, the more chance for violence. So I try to avoid Thai males, especially in groups, based on exactly that.

Of course there are exceptions to that rule, but that is my general experience. Never had a problem with a sober, pale skinned, wealthy Thai with a respectable job.

By the way, I have never had a problem with a sober, "dark skinned", wealthy Thai with a respectable job.

But not too many of the respectable ones are there?

  5. The day the red terrorists try to replicate their 2010 actions in Bangkok will be a turning point for the country ,It will determine if the security forces can and will clamp down ,with force, immediately. If they dont because of their red political masters, its over for Thailand economic development and foreign presence

  6. There should be an organisation set up by countries who place restrictions on owning property and business and other controls on Thai nationals outside of their beloved kingdom they chose to leave and have the freedoms elsewhere

  7. Big red balls, end up flat red balls under the tracks of a military tank. So let's just see how big his red balls are hidden behind and well protected by his paid supporters.

Please lay off this simplistic "behind the scenes supporters" jive.

Chatuporn and Suthep, the mouthpieces for the radical elements of either side have all kinds of invisible hands shoved into their tighty whities.

Who won the majority vote ?

Whose coalition ran the gov't ?

Sure, they REALLY screwed up the country but WHAT ELSE is new ?

The "reforms" that Suthep outlined amounted to nothing less than a return to privilege.

And every low rent farang in the city and every Pak Tai doofus who was willing to sleep in an intersection tried for a free ride on that pedigree bus. The wheels will fall off that old beater before the AEC opening ceremony.

    Hold ANOTHER election.

Or scrap the notion of ONE MAN / ONE VOTE and just let the Bangkok oligarchs run the show.

But don't piss on our shoes and tell us it's a special kind of rain we have in Thailand.

Time to call a spade a spade, n'est-ce pas ?

  8. Difference being the UDD is a movement formed from the people wheras the PAD/PDRC are formed and financed from the pockets of thai big business (elites) as we know, supported by tte hi-so bangkokians and with an army of paid southern hooligans and street people.

    Some pretty spectacular naivety there.
