Sometimes after 20mins it cut off so redial and sometimes we go through the 5 mins of "hello" "hello" "hello" but on the whole quite good.

Im sure there are others skype etc...... only one of you needs internet and it does not need yo be your mum.

    Hope this helps someway

  2. Khanom can offer this for sure. However along that coastline there are a few high end resorts. But not much else its your classic long long beach front road off the main road and at times there are several km's between resorts. Food is a little pricey for the area and thailand in general and you will be stuck with the resorts food unless you have transport.

But as you first mentioned khamon you must have relised this as its quite a difficult place to reach.

Even by bus the beach area is about 3km away with only motorbike taxi available in the village.

The resorts are spread far and wide.

What you seek is available in Thailand but generaly you have to travel to find it.

Have a look at nana beach chumphon as thats quite easy.

Also despite what I said in another thread check for ban krut its nice quite and if you like food its heaven. If you want more info on the later destination then pm me as un willing to advertise to the masses. Sorry

  3. Anything north of surat thani should be better.

If your looking for beaches etc then take a line fron chumphon and head up the coast as far as cha am.

Hua hin is about the biggest town for tourism. Its not my idea of fun but if you like the tradition seaside holiday with tourists and shops and food then take a look. Its quite a busy place.

If you like quite quite there are many.

Not that I like guide books but lp have one on thai beaches. Its quite intresting although the book does consentrate mainly on the islands.maybe worth a look next time your passing a book store.

  4. Have been a visitor to khanom a few times and at different times of the year this is what I will tell you.

Technically yes it is rainy season however you can never predict the weather in the south to central part of thailand that time of the year.

The so called rainy season is different from the normal rainy season in main part of thailand. In the south you suffer from the southern monsoom season and the rain that effects Malaysia that time of the year sweeps across southern thailand. Totally unpredictable im affraid you cauld have two weeks of sun sun norm temp 32/33°c or it can be raining. In my experience when it does rain it will be heavy and can at times last 24 to 36 hours straight. But then after normally you will nice nice weather for a few days and cycle will repeat. Its a risk and you will have no better than 50/50 chance of good weather.

As for the sea yes it can be quite rough there at times so be carefull.

2 questions.. Have you been there before?? And will you have transport??

You do understand you are quite isolated there.

Best of luck with your plans. Sorry I cant guarantee nice weather for you.

  5. The default is no but apart from this no bank is going to be interested in small amounts of spending money.

Ah so default is no. I know us falang regard about 120000 RM as pocket money but unfortunatly my wife does not.

So what to do she wishes to move the money away from RM and does not want to convert it to THB.

I cant help as I do not want that kind of pocket money appearing in my bank account.

    Any helpful advice welcomed

  6. Been trying to find some good upto date info on status of belgium imigration.

I will give you brief outline and if anyone has advice then I will welcome all sugestions.

Been offered a job full time back in belgium starting in november. Its quite a tempting offer so I am considering giving up my comfy life here and going back for a while.

Ok as for my status im british born already have belgium residency have id card have held id card for 6 years.

My wife married thai here. Her, high power job in the city with international company. English written is A+ English spoken is about A or as good as it gets for thai pronounced english. Understanding of english is about a B+.

Educated to master degree in Europe in english. She has already held 3 shengen visas and worked and lived in malyasia for 3 years so I think has good track record with visas. She has money lots of it, infact more than me.

Obviously I can return to belgium and have automatic right to work and live there.

    So now for the questions..

Can she join me in belgium?

What visa does she need? (She will plan to work there too at some point)

What infomation do we need to provide to embassy?

    How long is the process?

I can find much on UK visas and US but not much detail on belgium.

Any info will be grate. She is going to try to call belgium embassy in bkk but I would like some indipendant info.

  7. Please , please, please select another source to find information about Thailand rather than the rants above. It is a beautiful country, with very warm people, and extremely enjoyable. I have not figured why so many Thai Visa people feel that they were sent here to live in a prison like atmosphere. You will enjoy this country with an open mind, rather than from people that came here expecting to escape the laws in their countries. Possibly their countries kicked them out?  May they be extradited soon. Come and enjoy. Pattaya has a great offering, whether you want to party or not, your choice. Bangkok is fun. Koh Chang is beautiful and fun. So much to see here.

    Well said.

  8.

For a holiday, please look up "Ban Krut", in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. A nice village at the ocean. Avoid places where too many foreigners are.

Please please please never mention BK.. please please....... one of the last few unspoiled places left. Just left yesturday back to bkk and to my horror and for the first time ever I see a falang leave arcadia resort without a shirt (by taxi of course) to the train station.

When I arrived at the train station there he was minus the shirt still with his bkk tempory gf all looking bangkok style dyed brown hair and high high heels checking her phone and looking pissed off as there was no one to take notice of her in the right way. And him...... still minus shirt!!

Disgraceful. ....... fine at beach but in hotel and taxi and then train station.

Im not happy with this. We i.e. regular users of bk do not want it spoilt by ignorant falang.

  9. Yes exactly 1x stamp = 1 baht one stamp given for every 50 baht spent.

I dont think anyone will want to save 100 thb for the umbrella or 1000 thb for the plastic table but you are correct these are just examples of promotional stuff. But you can just use the stamps as cash for any items. Probably with the exception of cigarettes.

The better promotions in 7 11 are always hidden and in thai but try to look out for them.

Although finished for the time being 7 11 normally run promotions where by if you spend more than 50 baht then you can by sellect items very very cheap. For example just recently for about 1 month if you spend more than 50 baht you can buy coke can at 10 baht each. So spend 100 baht you can buy 2 coke can for 10 baht etc.... coke can just an example but theres many more items normally on offer.

I know it sounds thrifty but why not use these promotions????? They are open to all ppl.

To many ppl here always complaining about being cheated out of there money complaining about dual price charging and heres a straight up offer giving you money back and the same ppl just want to throw money away???

  10. Different people visit or live in Thailand for different reasons.  Can you be a little clearer on why you want to visit Thailand?  Sightseeing, the beaches, other?   And how long will your trip be?

Certainly you need some ideas of your own as to what are yor expectations are from this pland trip.

Help useful or "otherwise" is alway on hand here but as Thailand is such a diverse country with many things on offer some idea of what you enjoy and what you dont enjoy would be of great help here.

If you get it right and match what you are looking for you will have the time of your life here. Get it wrong and you will have your worse nightmare come true. So please advise and you just may get some helpfull tips.

As far as speaking English, many Thais can speak a little, but most have limited vocabulary and limited conversational ability.  Thais in major tourist areas and hotels catering to foreigners will tend to have better English language ability.   But with a little patience, necessary communication always seems to get done.  Patience, staying calm, and a smile gets you a long way here.

100% true if you exspect to come here barking english at the top of your voice and exspect thai ppl to respond when this is not the place for you.

I would suggest that you stay away from Pattaya and Phuket.  They both are big tourist centers with a large number of go-go bars and other "girly bars".  Both places tend to attract the worst people.  The worst Thai people and the worst foreign people.

Again so so true and the two places above are not my idea of a good time. However they are great fun places to be if this is what you are looking for and you are very careful in this sort of environment.

Good luck with your trip and if you want information and ideas the please try to exspand on what you are looking for.
