One more thing - you mentioned roaming. I've found that the DTAC top up scratch cards work while you're outside Thailand as well. So I keep a couple in my Thailand wallet so when I'm abroad and I need money in my dtac account I use that. If you're doubtful you can try first with the 60-baht scratch cards?

Sometimes I find the "full speed" data allocation for packages too low for my use - so I buy the "higher" package even if I'm not in Thailand that long. E.g. I'm in Thailand one week, but I buy the 399 baht dtac monthly package. And I can use that up too (in which case I get the SMS with a code to top up more data for about 150 baht more).
-
I've never had an email to true or dtac ignored - they always reply. The longest delay I've had is two days (True). I don't know why everyone else seems to have such trouble.
I call to cancel when I'm at the airport, it doesn't take that long? Just a few questions to verify identity then that's that.
Try registering for the e-service website?- 1

As far as I know, yes. Everything from weekly up is recurring. You can cancel via email actually - though I've registered my SIM as well, so they can identify me through various questions about my registered ID. And there's a website though I haven't tried canceling via that. Calling 1678 isn't *that* painful either?

no worries.
it's just that without some kind of "visual" there's just too many possibilities to easily guess what is causing that pinging, so asked about the pic.
anyways I think nickmanchester2 is going to help you?
my three eldest kids
alternatively, maybe one of them could determine the cause? Like my dad would say, "why have kids at all if you can't make them do things for you?"
anyways there's not that much "magic" to "smartphones", don't sell yourself short, just keep at it and you'll figure it out

What exactly do you need w.r.t. using "Linux" on a tablet? Because android itself is based on Linux, and many of the changes are due to the differences in use between something that relies on mouse and keyboard vs something that uses touchscreens.
-
Are you able to upload a picture of the phone display when its making that pinging sound?
-
(1) did he mean the "Galaxy S3" I-9300?
(2) there's no need to buy official manuals, they can be downloaded off the manufacturer website
(3) "ping" seems to me either some kind of incoming alert (message?) or status info. Did Samsung roll out any system updates for the S3 recently?
(4) I think you should surrender and get her an iPhone. Possibly soon before they release a new model and the cost goes up (unless she's the type to accept something not top-of-the-line) -
I'd imagine if plastic surgery was an employment perk, recruitment would go through the roof!
Yes the TG stewardesses' faces are most of the time gloomy. They should either be retrained or replaced.
Are you suggesting plastic surgery??

The Thai Business class cabins are full of old stewardesses in their 40's or even 50's, fluffing around with scorns on their faces, clearly not happy in their jobs.
Oh yes! The first time I flew Thai business (never been in first) I was ... surprised. The various US airlines I flew business/first in, the staff are also in their 40s/50s, but they certainly act like they are happy to see you, however they may really feel My Thai business experiences, in contrast... I recall incidents like a scowling steward waving the hot towel in front of me irritably because I didn't take it off him fast enough.
Vast difference with e.g. Singapore airlines business (also never been in first with them), where the stewardesses basically could not stop flirting with me (though I understand policy has limited this ever since the incident where a stewardess got slapped by the wife who was flying with her husband; I think there was a lawsuit!)

Love to know Tony Fernández's thoughts on this. Could he turn THAI around and make it profitable?
I've actually had the pleasure of meeting him before. From what he said then about the airline business, I think he wouldn't want to touch a "full-service" airline with a 40 foot pole. Unless he's changed his mind
anyways, AirAsia's profits are down significantly also, so he's going to be plenty busy right now.
basically... the airline business is tough. There used to be a joke about airlines being a business for billionaires who want to become millionaires, though there's been people who went the other direction (Tony Fernandes for one!).

You can get the same 49 baht daily charge plan for 19 baht using the activation code I gave
Yes, although my understanding of the 19 baht plan is that it's a "promotion" (the ad/alerts I got about them used to include a "end of availability" date, though that kept being pushed farther and farther out and now no longer appears). So technically it can be withdrawn in the future?
In any case, the OP's initial example was about being shifted to the daily deduction if he didn't have enough funds to renew the recurring plan. He should have received multiple warning SMSes, first about insufficient funds to renew, then another saying that renewal failed, either of which would have allowed him to fix the problem before it cost him money. After that, every day there would be first a warning SMS that more than 10 baht had been charged, then that 49 baht usage had been reached and will be capped there for the rest of the day. I actually can understand what he says he wants as a system (if failure to renew, then cut off internet access on the telco end, and not via his phone). But insofar as you get a warning SMS that there are insufficient funds to renew, then I think the onus is on you from that point on.
-
If I don't have a data plan active, but still use data, I get a warning SMS once I use 10 baht worth of data, which is well before I hit the daily cap of 49 baht. Why ignore this?
Not only that, if I have insufficient funds for a renewal of a recurring package, I get a warning SMS before the renewal date, to remind me to top up my account.
It seems to me there are plenty of opportunities to avoid unnecessary charges.
The 49 baht charge is also the price for their "daily unlimited" package, so their capping the fee at that seems both logical and extremely fair to me.
When I first came to Thailand and got my first prepaid DTAC SIM, I was frankly overjoyed when I discovered the usage would be automatically capped at 49 baht per day - if you're complaining about this you haven't been to any of the countries where they don't cap it. I once burned through $20 of data at one go in Malaysia without realising it, for example. no recourse.

Agree their pricing is high - I had to make a flight from Bangkok to Singapore and I was stunned to find the Thai prices were higher than Singapore Airlines (more known for being the "premium" priced carrier?).

useful info, thanks!

How is the battery life? Asus are pretty much the only phones using the Intel chips, right? Have you had any trouble with apps?
-
(1) not a touch screen I presume
(2) "standard sized" parts like a 17" screen are cheaper
(3) in electronics it generally costs more to make things small than to make things big, often a lot more

Yes the xiaomi link seems generic boilerplate - the issue is that if f-secure is to be believed, *more* info than what xiaomi officially states is being sent to them... F-secure has been around got quite some time and though I never relied on them for my own PCs, they aren't really "out of nowhere" types?

Sent from my XT1032 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile appI agree IMEI/SIM info being sent seems acceptable/to have legitimate cause. But the article explicitly says:
"The phone number of contacts added to the phone book and from SMS messages received was also forwarded."
???
That sounds quite unwarranted. Is that happening or is it not happening?

You might want to try your luck in MBK (you'll need to budget an entire day, I suspect). When I was there a lot of the vendors were trying to sell me obsolete models, so you may well find what you want there. Whether its for a good price/value, however, I really couldn't say (per casualbiker, surely you could find something better? Microsoft/Nokia have not demonstrated much interest in supporting older models. They just announced Skype for win phone 7 is retired, for example, and Microsoft *owns* Skype!)

Google has been moving closer and closer to the Apple security model. The default security settings/permissions for KitKat does not allow apps to access parts of storage space that are not "theirs". The phone manufacturers can override this and many do. The bundled " file manager" app should be able to do everything/anything with the SD card for example. Sony apparently has reintroduced the ability to move apps onto the SD card (officially taken away in jelly bean) in their latest KitKat builds (which, because its Sony, is not evenly distributed across their product range)

If they're having to sell in short bursts, that exhausts supply in a couple of minutes each time, their factories might not have enough capacity to expand to many more countries any time soon?
-
we don't know if they are using it for personal use or transporting other customers under the table.
my guess would be "both" :-P
To the suppliers who have contributed; an idea / possible feature if it is available.. a camera to see who is in the minibus at any given time? See if they are our guests or someone else's...?Hrm. I think if I were a passenger in a bus... I'd be happy to see a camera recording what's going on inside. In fact in the US many school buses have this already.
What are you going to do when the system starts mysteriously breaking down though? I'm sure the drivers will complain that rats just love to chew through the wires.
Suitable mobile SIM internet package for occasional live TV streaming?

Weekly too. There are two weekly packages with DTAC, one with pretty low high-speed ("fair use") allocation.
Anyways per your other thread, I really don't think it's that hard to cancel a package...
