Automatic immigration gates for PR holders at BKK airport

I have been told that at Suvarnnabhumi Airport the automatic passport check gates are now in service again for Thai nationals.
Previously PR holders were able to register to also use them.

Any one knows if this possible again and what is required to do so?

I just asked them. It is not possible yet for foreigners with PR to apply for autogate. He said they are waiting for an upgrade at the moment. He could not say how long it will take.

Anyone is aware of any update on my favorite topic?

  2. it’s seems the authorities are going ahead to implement by June the much discussed tourism tax of 300 THB for arrival by airplane (lower fees for arrival by sea and land)

details on how this’ll be collected have been conspicuously absent.

with regards to who will be exempt of paying this :Thai nationals, foreigners with diplomatic passports and those holding Thai work permits. No word so far how PR holders will be treated, especially those that do not hold a work permit

obviously by definition PR holders are not tourists, but the question if the authorities will take the same decision …

any news you have on this please share

I have been using attached for years and complete them in advance. No need to make appointment and it takes about 5 minutes for IO to check forms, documents, receive money, take fingerprints. Never more than 2 people in front of me in the queue.

    Thank you very helpful.

Once I got my pink ID card about 12 years ago, I replaced the passport number on all my Bank accounts with the ID card number. Made sense, as the ID card number is for life, and the passport number, in my case, only lasts for 5 years. My ID card number (which is the same on my house registration and driver's licence) is used for tax purposes. I don't have social security.

Did you encounter any pushback , ignorance from the banks.?

for me k bank was utterly at a loss when I presented Pink ID. They insisted on passport as official document

UOB was the only bank that accepted PInk ID number a local as reference when I got a mortgage to buy a condo from them.

For information departed SVB yesterday and autogates are not in operation for Thais and PR holders. I did not bother reregistering for what would have been the third time.

At arrival there are automatic gates for Thai nationals. PR holders can go through the manned counters on the far right side in the section for Thai passports..So far no queues here.

on departure I have been going through the Priority Fast track close to TG business class check in counters showing my reentry permit stamp in the passport. Staff usually don’t know what it is but let me through.
    interested to hear other’s experiences…

Thanks. I hope I might get a chance to try the autogates again in the not too distant future.  I don't need to travel and will not attempt to fly anywhere until COVID abates and we have vaccines in Thailand. Could be a long wait.

I flew international from Suvarnnbhumi last week and auto gates were not in use neither for Thai nor for foreigners.. As expected there were absolutely no queues, I was able to to walk up directly to the counter

  7. Tabien baan is required at the end of the process as IO will prepare letter to police in the Amphoe where your future official residence will be, and where the red book will be issued after PR is officially approved).  Process with that letter is (valid 1week only) you need to go the local police to get red book issued and with that to the amphoe where they will include you into a blue tabien baan. amphoe can also issue the pink ID (not legally required but nevertheless somewhat useful in my view).

when I got later a local mortgage from  UOB, they updated my pre PR account using the pink ID number (from passport number previously) to identify my account. Other bank where I had account also pre PR (and does not offer local mortgage to PR holder) did not know what I was talking about when trying get them to use pink ID number also. They insist on keeping my passport copy as record of my account ID ignoring PR status.

I know of several cases where applicants not using lawyer where asked for”tang duang” to facililitate/accelerate the process. They settled at around 30k each.

The 5 cases cited were all in the last 3 years. To avoid this it seems to help to be accompanied by your Thai spouse/partner when going to CW, especially if they are able to keep the IO “honest” and on their toes throughout the application process. In this specific case, the topic of Tang Duan was never raised.

  9. I have a life insurance policy with Prudential which I took out just to take advantage of the tax benefit.  I was not asked to undergo any medical tests and wouldn't have bothered with the policy, if they had asked for that, because it was not essential to have it.  The sales rep came to my house and I remember asking her about medical tests and she said they sometimes asked for but it wouldn't be necessary in this case without further explanation.

A friend had a very similar case to yours. His Thai wife applied for a mortgage for a house and the bank insisted on life insurance with a firm that asked her for medical checks.  He got so irritated with the bank for being slow and giving conflicting information and the insurance company that he told both he would blow them off, if the latter still insisted on the medical checks. Miraculously the insurance rep came back to him and told him that he no longer needed the medical checks.  My understanding is that these medical checks are not compulsory in every case at most insurance companies but they try to get them, if they can, to reduce their risk. However, insurance reps make a fair bit of upfront commission on life policies and, if they see that about to vaporise in front of their eyes, they may put pressure on the boss to waive the medical checks.  Perhaps they have to agree to a charge back of commission, if the insured then kicks the bucket from AIDS in short order.

Thanks good to hear there seems to be some flexibility. Insurance contract, mortgage contract and condo contract are signed and their request to test came after that. Will sit it out and see what happens

  10. If they ask for it simply give it to them or look for a different company.

The insurance is tied to a bank loan I took out so not easy to change company.
In any case I consider this discrimination and in breach of the Gender equality act in Thailand if indeed this is applied to gay customers.
Has anyone had similar experience with Prudential or other insurance company here?
