  1. To answer the OP. Unless you have learned to religiously discharge your battery regularly, you have already succeeded at achieving double the average life.

With each new battery and laptop, I have improved my attention to full discharge and charge without prolonged periods of not using the battery and can finally say that I am over 3.5 years on one battery. Nearly 2 years longer than my best prior experience.

  2. I would have thought a fast ferry link to Bangkok more profitable, a fast seacat that can take containers (without tractors), bikes, cars, vans & trucks, with 2 40Kt/75Kph High Speed cats that could be 3 sailings a day each way, (450Km Samui to BKK). if good were palletised they could be unloaded at the Samui port and shipped in smaller vans or lorries to final destination.

I would love to see such a ship.

  3. Always a good idea to keep an eye on the French. :) While I am busy bashing the French, I will share this little joke I read somewhere lately.

An elderly Canadian of 83 arrived in Paris by plane. At the French Immigration desk, the man took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry-on bag. "You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked, sarcastically. The elderly gentleman admitted he had been to France previously. "Then you should know enough to have your passport Ready." The Canadian said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it." "Impossible. Canadians always have to show their passports on arrival in France!"

The Canadian senior gave the Frenchman a long hard Look. Then he quietly explained. "Well, when I came ashore on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find any Frenchmen to show it to!"

  4. If you check the history of my posts I said "when the rice scheme was first proposed that it was government getting involved in something they should not be involved in.

Now having said that I just do not get it when they say they are criminally going after Yingluck because of Dereliction of Duty. This witch hunt is all politics.

It you can get someone because of dereliction of duty then Obama would be servicing a very long sentence. And the fallout from this is very very bad

If there are good Thai people that can be a good leader as MP or Prime minister why in gods name would they want to run for office in Thai politics ?

A lot of you here on Thai visa react out of emotion not reality . Think about it are children running around school saying I want to be Prime Minister when I grow up

    I think not .

That is a sad state of affairs

I raced to comment and realized that there were several pages already. Thinking - ok, I'll bite, and read some garbage before posting. Thank you for only having to read a few posts before finding yours. Refreshing... I could not say it any better than you sir about what was on my mind.

  5. I have no strong opinions on Khun Prayut; good or bad. But pushing for major projects should probably wait until there is an elected government. I am saddened by the fact that Thailand still has not been able to join the world's economy in the way that it has so much potential to do. I believe that after the Viet-Nam war that the U.S. did Thailand a great disservice by not doing enough for Thailand. (There was a period when no one in America wanted to talk about SE Asia).

I believe that if handled properly in those post war years that Thailand could have become a Singapore on crack and by now would be heavily influencing China. Instead we are left with the other way around. Just my humble opinion.

  6. Subsidiary Nok Air? Thought that got sold off to another company and subsidiary is Thai Smile?

Thai smile is their 3rd division. It is not a low cost airline. It is a targeted mid cost airline for domestic routes (14 A-320's) with 2 class seating.

  7. They need a international budget airline like qantas has jetstar. Flying to australua with three full meals is a waiste. Can fly jetstar business class for the same price as there economy.

They have one in their subsidiary Nok air which competes directly with Air Asia on domestic routes.

  8. There's no market for 747's anymore unless they convert the plane to a cargo carrier. Any bids?

Africa might be interested if theycan pay for it on the never never system.

I bet the gov wont disclose how much theyre selling all this old junk for.

Actually the 747-400 has one of the biggest current resale markets there is for commercial planes. The market is not too bad for A-330's either. The A-340 on the other hand has the lowest resale value compared to initial cost. Several reasons for this.

  9. This is arguably the most successful airline in recent history and placed the largest ever single deal for airplanes ever announced with the manufacturer that most of you Euro lovers like. ( hint: not Boeing ) and you guys are trying to slight him. I read the first few posts and couldn't believe the comments from those who have the gaul to call some thai organizations ignorant. Then on another thread I read about A-340 responses that identified more ignorance. Really? I am guessing... no not guessing, a little research proves that these posters really have no idea. Where in the <deleted> did they earn their money that allows them to live in a paradise like Thailand??

  10. The first story I read on this, I thought was a media joke. Now that I see that it has persisted.... it must be true. The Junta had a great first 6 months, but it's inexperience in politics has come to this and the dozens of other stories in the last few months.. I suspect another coup is on it's way. It could be a long time before Thailand is able to secure new substantial International investment.

  11. I really can't see any company outside of PTT or Chevron who has the experience and at these prices, having the capital already at work, gives both of them even more advantage. Of course new leases would involve farm in with PTT, but outside of Chevron, no one has shown much interest in long term development in these fields. Thailand's position of having to import half of their NG means that these fields will certainly be developed.
