"Since I came to Thailand, it seems that overdrinking is accepted here way more than in western countries. I work with a few chaps who are gettig drunk regularly and it is condoned. Back in my home country, they would be suggested to seek some type of recovery. I feel uncomfortable saying something to these guys like, "you know you are slowly killing yourself and ruinning your life so you should really get help." One of the guys attended AA for a while but he said he couldn't take the religious angle of it all.

Has anyone else found that there is way to much Religion going on in AA?"

    Fixed it for yeh.

  2. Am I missing something? Where are the taxi mofia there? There is the AOT taxi desk by the luggage carousel, which is the only licensed and insured private cars and then there is the metered taxi cue outside where one pays a standard airport fee plus the meter charge, I have never heard of them turning down destinations. Buses, mini vans and sky train downstairs. If people cannot do some simple research before arriving at the airport I have no sympathy for them as there are taxi touts at every airport in world. Suvarnabhumi is not like what Don muean was like, or how Phuket airport is now. Seems like just another day where the junta is trying to put out their positive daily spin.

They should try cleaning up the Tuk-Tuk mofia around the tourists areas, they are the real problem.

I have to agree, I have never had a problem with the Taxis at Subarabhumi in nearly a dozen arrivals. I assumed the article was about the AOT limousines because they are so aggressive in trying to get you into their cars and their rates are triple or quadruple the taxis. I go down to the bottom level and get my taxi at the taxi stand. I had no idea there was a 50 baht fee. The taxi driver must be paying this for the customers who arrive at the stand, because I have never seen anyone else pay a fee either. You are handed a numbered piece of paper with your destination, so the driver would not dare to give you trouble as his taxi number and id are recorded to match your receipt.

I have no troubles at DM either, but I have to admit that I always use the little trick of going up the escalators to the departures level and jump in a taxi that has just unloaded passengers.

  3. I don't know much about the low wage sector of the Italian economy; but it makes sense to me that Italy should embrace these people in the style that the Americans do with people who live there illegally from Mexico and pretend they are not there, so they do not have to provide any benefits. The USA economy has relied on this system for decades, and at least until very recently, the U.S. was some sort of economic super power. ;)

  4. That would have been H2S that killed them most likely. As many have stated the use of a hand held gas detector before entering, proper ventilation before entry, and re-checking of the oxy level & H2S could have saved their life's. No proper procedures were in place with proper safety equipment with a rescue plan by trained people was also a problem. Anyway too many issues to list here. Everywhere you go people are working at heights without fall protection, using ladders or scaffolding that is not adequate, and correct personal protective equipment is not being used.

    RIP Gents

would Not have been H2S in my opinion. Just saying.

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 6A using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Why not H2S i am interested?

Me too. I can't see it being anything but H2S. Very common in sewers, and in doses that kill or mame, it is completely odorless. The rotten egg smell is only evident in very low ppm concentration.

  5. This report flies in the face of what airlines are actually doing right now to serve the Asian market on international flights. Air Canada has just broken a record for cramming the most people into a 777 extended range, high density aircraft. They have just put 4 of these brand new Boeings into service. Two of them service the Vancouver to Hong Kong 13 hour flight and seat 458 passengers!!

These aircraft have 17" wide seats in economy. No that is not a typo. Seventeen inches!! 10 people wide in a Boeing 777 !!!

In all my years of flying, I have never been so dissapointed a flying experience. When you consider that these aircraft are brand new, which usually lends to a better experience; these are very dark days for air travel indeed. The reality so far is that the high growth in Asian travel is leading to more condensed seating and much lower value for the flying consumer.

17" is a common seat width. And consumers have spoken. We'll put up with almost any level of discomfort if it saves a few bucks on the ticket.

I think that's going to be the legacy of the newly emerging Asian economy traveling class- stack 'em deep and fly 'em cheap. Not what I would call "setting the standard"- at least not without biting my tongue.

I'm wondering if Euro to N American travelers are experiencing the same phenomena, or is it only the Asian market where they can get away with it?

Other than some very tiny regional jets, these seats on these 4 B-777ERs are the smallest seats that Air Canada offers.

  7. My advice. Buy local. Don't get too caught up in product. A dealer nearby could possibly be the most important thing about buying your bike. Especially if your Thai lady friends have any trouble while you are out of town. Get it serviced there once in a while and it will be great piece of mind, and you are showing your respect for the community.

If that dealer is a Suzuki dealer, it is usually the lowest priced non-Chinese product there is. I priced out a Yamaha Spark 115 with elec start at a dealer for 39900 cash price. Thought the price was awesome until my friend's dad up in Issan bought a Suzuki Smash Revolution for what she said was 20,000 baht. I assume that it was the non elec, w/o front disc brake, and the price was more like twenty something thousand baht, but you get the picture. You will not likely be able to negotiate that, but full list price in 2012 was only 34500.

Want Off pavement performance and bullet proof reliability? The shifter models are the way to go.

  8. I agree that what the captain did was probably determined by proper procedure rules. I'm not sure what engines the A320 uses but I have anecdotal evidence (my son-in-law's word) that the engines in the 777 are very tough indeed!

It's too bad Boeing hadn't tested having someone sit 13 hours in the 3-4-3 seating arrangement used by AC in economy flights from Vancouver to Hongkong in the Long Haul 777. A real step back in comfort from a 767 with 2-4-2. (sorry for getting off topic... but I am still hot about it)

  9. Anyone know if NBC Sports works. I want to see the Grey Cup (Canadian Football Championship game) on Nov 24 (Nov 25 here) but I can't check it right now as I am in a remote location with slower than dial-up speeds until the 21st.

Any advice would be very much appreciated as I have to make a decision to change some flights if I can't get this solved.
