  1. Well, i got this notification from SCB of the cancellation of the exemption last week.

today, i passed by a SCB branch and explained nicely how inconvenient it was for me.

they called the call center, give me the phone and told me they will give an exemption until September. I asked them, ok but September what will happen after? She said because it has been scheduled by SCB to implement the face recognition for foreigner with passport in September. If it not happening in September, we will contact and extend again the exemption.

few minutes later, i got a notification for the renewal of the exemption.

I've always found one eventually but it can be frustrating especially as everyone double parks.  A lot depends on the time and whether it's a busy holiday period.

I've given up on the idea of long-term parking as no one seems to know anything about it.  Will take a taxi.

I tried anyway last night. It was ok but bit stressful indeed. I tried the parking zone 4 and it was very pack. Turn around 20 minutes but luckily found someone who was leaving. I was already considering what would happen if i missed my flight…

so i think, i will keep using the taxi as my schedule is always very tight.

  3. How is it easy to find place available in the short term parking? I am traveling a lot for short trip domestically and international. My main concern is about the time to find a place to park.

for example, i am going to Phuket tomorrow evening, come back to bkk Sunday evening, then going to Philippines Monday afternoon and coming back to bkk Tuesday night.

i am doing such trip very often and bored using taxi.

  4. I have one of this Mee Tai Dai account since few years. Open in the branch, not online. I am not to remember but I think when I open it that time, the interest were up to 1.5% for max 1 million, then drop to 0.9% above 1 million.

I went to the branch recently and they me that now, for this account (not online), the 1.5% interest is for max 100k balance. The online one is restricted to Thai only.

At the meantime, i have the similar online account with SCB (I think it's easy something) when you get 1.5% up to 2M. No bank book. The interest are paid monthly. Better than nothing...

My WP issued in 2014, like @Ralf001's WP was very "specific".

However, someone showed me a more recent WP (cannot remember the issue date or when I saw it, but I think it was after 2019) that did not have all of those specifics.

And, if I remember correctly, the change to the law was not "just do anything you wish".

I seem to remember that it required approval by your primary employer and some other conditions.

But it did allow you to work for someone other than your primary employer.

Or work for your primary employer, but at different locations and in different capacities.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can confirm...

I got my work permit today in Bangkok (BOI).

It does not specify any address or province. Only the company name and the position i am working (right of work).

    It's digital work permit

  6. I did that 2 months ago. Got a new passport in my Embassy in Bangkok. They cut the corners and stamped cancelled on the old one.

Left the country few days later. At aiport, the immigration stamped a new entry on the new passport (even I entered in bkk and exit in Phuket) and wrote the non O and extension was on the old passport. They reminded me to make sure to carry my old passport when I come back.

I was on Non O with 1 year extension retirement

  7. So this is always open? I will exit Thailand at Suvanarbhuni next week and i need a multi re-entry permit as I just enter with brand new Non-B (IB actually) single.

My flight (to Hanoi) is at 07h45am, so little bit early. I guess boarding time will be 07h00am, so I be at the re-entry counter at 06h30am at last?

Or to be on the save side, should i go to CW to get one?

  8. Well, the good thing is you can stop the subscription anytime.

I have been subscriber of Netflix for very long time and use it a lot. 2 years ago, I also purchased an Ipad and enrolled for the 3 months free with Apple +. I ended the subscription at the end of the 3 months as I was not convinced. I prefer the interface of Netflix and I found that Netflix has more selection on movies and series.

Last week, as I couldn't really find what to watch next on Netflix, and saw some interesting trailers on Apple + (some apple production), I signed up again on Apple+ (basically as they have already your apple ID, they only charge your credit card). I give it a try again and watch what I am interested but my stop the subscription after 1 month or 2. At the same time, I keep my Netflix subscription running as my wife use it too

  9. I got a new passport last month in my embassy last month (the old passport was full). I was on 1 year extension + multi re-entry. I didn't go to immigration but exited Thailand few days later. At airport immigration, with both passport, they stamped the last entry stamp to the new passport (I entered in bkk and exited in Phuket) and stamped that the extension was on the old passport. They told me to make sure I carry my old passport when I re-enter next time.

I re-enter few days later without problem. They only wrote on the new entry stamp that the extension was on the old passport. I have actually done that many time as I am travelling a lot.

  10. Thanks all for your feedback. And your feedback is actually a confirmation of what i told the agent. Even the HR in my company agrees with me.

The points you highlighted are correct. 1/ my actual extension expired on 7th June. As i didn't process the renewal, I need to leave tomorrow

2/ my re-entry permit (multi) is linked to my extension and valid with my extension. I won't be able to use even if i re-enter on the 8th of June

3/ my original non O and extension is based on retirement. I was clearly confirmed by the same agent that i need to get a non B to proceed work permit and extension as it won't possible based on the non o that I got.

Anyway, i have a flight tomorrow to Vietnam and if I don't take it, I will be on overstay and I don't want that in any case.

    Thanks all for your feedback

  11. Maybe some experts here can advise me on this case:

I am on 1 year extension based on retirement. I have a also a multi re-entry permit. This extension is valid until 7th June (Tomorrow). Last entry in Thailand was 31th May and i was stamped with permission to stay until 7th June (As per my extension validity). I am flying to Vietnam tomorrow.

It is clear for me that as I have not renew my extension, my next entry (next week) will visa exempt.

At the meantime, my company is relocating from Vietnam to Thailand. They are proceeding now the necessary with the BOI to provide me the necessary documentations to apply Non B in Thai embassy in Vietnam and further extension and work permit.

They are using one agent to coordinate with BOI.

Now, the agent is insisting for me to go immigration the day i am leaving Thailand (tomorrow) to get my Non O cancelled. It said it will create problem when applying the next extension based on the Non B.

But i am getting confused as I have not proceed any extension renewal and my extension will expired tomorrow in any case, same as the 90days Non O that I got 1 year ago.

  12. Let me give some input here based on my personal experience.

As BritTim stated above, we need to be very between Visa and Extensions of stay. Also, on the actual situation.

For me, I divorced from the Thai mother when my son was still very young and I got the full parental rights by the court during the divorce. Since my son has been living with me in the same house. I actually purchased the house but in my son name (he owned the chanote and is the master in the blue book).

As I have working in SE Asia for the last 20 years (Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar), I was very frequently travelling between those countries and Thailand to come back home.

The justifications to travel very often to Thailand was obvious for the immigration and as soon as I provided the Thai birth certificate, the copy of the tabien baan, I was granted a Non O 1 year multi entries based on my son.

I did that for many years. The last Non O of this type was granted to me in 2019 from the Thai Embassy in Yangoon. My son was already 20 years old.

In 2020, as this 1 year Non O was expiring, I was in Thailand but due to Covid, my next trip abroad (Vietnam) was delayed but I got a 60 days extension at the immigration (based on my son). I left Thailand within the 60 days and this visa expired while I was in Vietnam. I went to the Thai Embassy in Saigon in 2021 to get new Non O but they explained me that they were not issuing anymore 1 year ME Non O and advised me to go for a 90 Non O and get 1 year extension based on my son when I will be in Thailand. The requirements a bit higher, asking a letter from school or employer (either he was still in school or working already)of my son, photos inside and outside our house with both of us, and i think 400k in the bank (can't remembe)....

I could get all of that of course but as I was over 50 years old, having sufficient funds in the bank (800k), i decided to go for the retirement extension instead as it was faster and easier. But my son was already 24 years old and there was no issue about that.

  13. I don't know about Chonburi but for me, I have one and got few already before from Phuket DLT.

Easy to get as long as you have the 5 years Thai driving license:

    - certificate of residence from the immigration office

    - copy of your passport main page

    - copy of Thai driving license

    - you pay few hundreds bahts (can't how much exactly).

    That's it.

I read in the DLT website and these are the main requirements. However, as usual, it can depends on local DLT offices.

I don't drive in Europe, US...for me it is mainly for Taiwan and Korea.

  14. My company is relocating from Vietnam to Thailand for work.

As the title said, I have a Non-O + 1 year extension based on retirement valid until June 2024 in Thailand.

The BOI agent asked me to cancel my Non O as soon as I will be back to Thailand in order to proceed Non B application at the Thai Embassy in Vietnam. I am travelling frequently (mostly every week) between the 2 countries).

My question is: how do you cancel Non O / extension?

I was on a Non-O based retirement extension for one year. I then converted to Non-B, then work permit extension for many years. In October 2023 I exited to Cambodia, returned on a Visa Exempt (US passport), obtained a Non-O for retirement in Thailand at CW, then got my retirement extension in January 2024. So, in my case, there was no issue with the Non-O, other than needing a lease, being 50+, and having 800K in the bank.

Yes, I am thinking the same. Unless they change drastically the requirement for Non O, I don't any issues even if I need a trip outside to get a new Non O and restart the process.

Again, my original question was if I am already on Non O + 1 year extension, do I need to get a non B outside Thailand to proceed the work permit application. And i understand from the previous feedback that yes. As I am in Vietnam now working for the same company, i will need to remind them this point before they ask me to relocate permanently to Thailand.
