  1. "So...to summarize...there are two main things you need to check to get the right size pump....pressure and volume."

Yep, that was the purpose of my original request - What is the volume of water in storage? My math may be all off! As to pressure, How do you get pressure without a pump? The pump is what supplies pressure - Yes?

Just in case you should check back in.....the volume issue is not how much volume you are storing....it is how many litres per second the pump can deliver....it is the rated flow volume of the pump.

To summarize.....you need a pump that delivers enough pressure while pumping at an adequate number of litres per second.

  2. The instigator and leader of a riot is warning others not to be violent???????????

Yes, of course, its his job to warn them, then it is his job to supress them if they turn violent...thats how it works. Seems to me that its not difficult to understand. Riots are often instigated specifically so that the authorities will cause blood to flow which arouses the emotions of yet greater masses...its the martyr thing....sick...but sometimes effective. In case you don't know...the way the game works is that if he doesn't warn them then they can say the violence came without warning...but since he's warned them he can feel free to act and then after the violence he can say, "I warned you!" That's the way the game is played......maybe you don't like this game?....if not then my suggestion is to not follow current events so closely...if you follow current events closely in Thailand it is almost inevitable that you will see this game played...if you don't want to see it then don't look.

Chownah, you caloused idiot...you talk as if this was a game and you are a cheerleader...how insensitive you are to the awful treatement blah blah blah....and besides your not really striking enough to be a cheerleader.

Sorry to seem so flippant....this is serious business....but it is not a secret how it works so might as well try to keep a clear mind free from emotional disturbance so that one can see clearly what is happening and come to some understanding....or not.

  3. Thank you very much for your input, you apparently have never heard of Bangkok mass transit lines developments. It's been only about six months since bidding was officially opened. Is it a "significant delay" that warrants reconsidering all the plans from the ground?

I was replying to your comment which is, "There's no time for that. Projects currently in the pipeline have been through all of this already, for four years." I interpreted this to mean that there are projects that had already been completley developed and were waiting for four years.

So you have NEVER heard of mass transit projects proposed by Thaksin himself, it was a central theme of his Bangkok election campaign in 2004. You've never heard of Purple, Blue, Red and all other multicolored lines. You've never heard of Thailand mega sale campaign, you've never heard of Surayud's government approving the Purple line, securing financing from Japanese banks and opening bids. You've never heard any of it, yet volunteer with explanations.

Can you post about something you know?

But that is exactly what I do.....and yes, I volunteered information about some of the standard reasons why large infrastructure projects are delayed...and how in some instances delays are beneficial....this is something I do know about and this is what I posted. I was prompted to post this because one of your post seemed to indicate that you were not aware of the legitimate reasons for delaying projects...I might be wrong and maybe you knew this all along....I don't know....I even thought that there might be other people than yourself reading this thread and they might like some information about why projects might be delayed for legitimate reasons so that they could think about this issue and maybe view it from a more informed perspective to determine whether a delay might be legitimate....or not.

You posted, "You've never heard any of it, yet volunteer with explanations." I want to point out that what I posted can be applied to any major infrastructure development project which is being managed with modern administrative techniques....doesn't matter where they are being proposed or who is involved.......I really don't understand your incredulity.

  4. If the man speaking French appeared to be asian then he might have been from Laos and once when I was in Laos at a temple much visited by tourists in Vientienne I saw and heard a viscious tongue lashing administered to some tourists who were innocently taking pictures of themselves with their monk who was showing them around....but they were not placing the monk in a position which the irate onlooker felt was exhalted enough so he complained in no uncertain terms....another monk was showing me around and I could tell that he was a bit embarassed by the irate man's behavior.

You made an honest mistake...you might go back to the temple, apologize for having done the wrong thing, ask what it was since you don't want to do it again, and then leave a small donation...this will not only help you to learn what you did wrong specifically but it will also help the people at the temple see that even foreigners are willing to humbly seek correction for their missteps. (Be sure to wear modest clothing when you return, long pants or skirt, shoulders covered, loose fitting, subdued colors, etc.....might you have been immodestly dressed the first time you visited?)

has the formula..it works..i tried it

This formula calls out for alot of salt....salt is something you probably don't want to put in your soil. If there is adequate rainfall it will wash the salt out eventually so I guess the damage wouldn't be permantent....probably best to rule out using salt although my uncle (who keeps cows) tells me that if you want to get rid of all vegetation you can spray it with salty water and then graze the cows there...they love salt and he claims they will eat everything right down to the ground. So far I have not tried this....I kill vegetation in preparation for planting using tillage.

  6. You need to tell us how you will be using the water....will it be strictly household use?...or will you be doing alot of garden and yard watering?...if you will be watering a large garden or yard area will you be wanting to do that with large sized rotating impulse sprinklers?...drip irrigation?....what kind of shower do you like...a real large volume of water but at low pressure? or a really large volume of water at high pressure? or just the run of the mill shower? or low flow low pressure shower to save on water and electricity or for whatever reason? And finally how much will you be drinking (hahahahhahha).

    Chownah

Nothing is simple! Seems I left out a lot!

The water in the 2 storage tanks are for household use. Not for drinking although I have been considering a filtering system for the house. Showers - well, I take one shower a day for about 10 minutes, the wife and child usually 30 minute (!) showers. Pressure is not important as I plan to use 3/4" fixtures off the 1" supply pipe. I "think" I should have sufficient pressure with this setup. Yes, I know that some fixtures will have to be 1/2" but a 1/2" pipe off the 3/4" should suffice.

Water from well will be used for gardening. Do not expect a large garden plot! Recycle time for the water well, i.e. returning to the 5 meter level is about 8 hours.

Hope this will be suffiecient. And thanks again.

Providing a 1inch supply pipe will not increase the pressure if the pump you buy does not create adequate pressure in the first place....some westerners want a shower of a certain force and volume...if they buy a pump which does not create enough pressure to make a shower with enough force then assuming that the supply pipe is adequate what they really need isa pump that can generate more pressure.

A very similar arguement can be made for watering the garden and lawn....people who want to use the rotating impulse sprinklers need to have a pump capable of generating enough pressure to operate the size sprinklers they intend to use...a larger supply pipe will not make up for a pump which does not generate enough pressure.

Pumps differ on their operating pressure range so it is advisable to check to be sure that the pump you get generates adequate pressure for the use you intend. The pressure available at a shower head (for instance) can also be increased by mounting the pump at a higher elevation. This is an option which few people seem to utilize but is available never the less.

So much for pressure...now on to volume. For domestic use the major issue for volume is usually that when two people want to shower at the same time (in seperate showers...not showering together you silly goose) then the volume is inadequate and also the pressure drops (oh no...here we are back at pressure again!!). Even a pump which is capable of pumping to an adequate pressure can not supply water at high volumes at that pressure....what volume CAN it supply at its rated pressure? you might ask...the answer is that it can supply its rated volume at that pressure....the bottom line here is that if your household is wanting to use more volume of water (two showers or a shower and a flushing toilet or a shower and dishwashing or shower and washing the car...etc.) then the pressure will drop and the flow will be reduced for both people using the water.....so....you want to be sure that the pump you purchase can provide enough volume so that two people can be using the water simultaneously.....at my house if someone has the hose spigot open full outside then there is inadequate flow for the shower heater to work and the water comes out very slowly and COLD....something I could have avoided by buying a higher volume pump.

So...to summarize...there are two main things you need to check to get the right size pump....pressure and volume.

  7. I think you bought the wrong tester because the one you bought is needlessly expensive for the simple tasks which you say you bought it for namely checking voltage and continuity. Volt Ohm meters can be purchased here in Thailand for very low prices which will do those two tasks perfectly.....buying your tester for those two tasks is sort of like buying a complete set of surgical tools for shaving.

  8. Interesting post Pepe. Just goes to prove what 'not' reading the bible for yourself does. The woman who was a 'sinner' was not MM. The woman taken in adultry (not stoning for prostitution either!) was not MM and despite what history, legend, paintings or hearsay says MM is never refered to as a sinner or a prostitute!

It is true that there are 7 Marys mentioned in the NT so it easy to see how the confusion arises.

I don't have a copy of the Bible...do you know of a good website for looking up references or for reading it?

  10. Pad DOES want Thaksin to return and face the courts, they are protesting against government interference in the judicial process, it has nothing to do with elections. Separation of powers, juduciary and executive in this case, must be upheld no matter who is in the government.

I'm pretty much in agreement here. I think one of the big difficulties historically in Thailand has been seperation of powers...I think it is good that the PAD raises this issue. It is a difficult situation....I haven't seen where PAD really has a way to implement seperation of powers and in the long run it is not viable to have a group of citizens staging disruptive demonstrations as THE method for enforcing seperation of powers. The US constitution is sometimes pointed to as an example of good seperation of power but even there it is maintained to a significant degree simply by the fact that there are enough well educated people all across the political spectrum who understand its importance and will drop their ideological urgencies and join together to maintain it. But even when seperation of power is firmly established it is subject to erosion which some people claim is the problem in US politics today (please let's not get into US politics...this is just presented as a possible example).

I guess my view is that PAD's tactics while in support of alot of very good ideals do not really do so much to achieve those ideals. Their previous demonstrations helped a military dictatorship to come to power which so far doesn't really seem to have accomplished much. I guess the hope is that "this time" there will be more people getting involved and that increases the chance of a good outcome...but realistically getting more people involved in the struggle (remember there are two sides to every struggle) might lead to an even more disasterous outcome......I don't know. I just try to support the democratic process and sometimes it difficult to know what helps and what does not.

I was replying to your comment which is, "There's no time for that. Projects currently in the pipeline have been through all of this already, for four years." I interpreted this to mean that there are projects that had already been completley developed and were waiting for four years.

In this case if the plan was to have the bidding open for six months then there is no need for a review of the project....however if the bidding was expected to last only three months and the fact that a bid hasn't been awarded in over twice the expected time (for instance) then this is usually expected that there is some problem or irregularity somewhere which is causing the unexpected result (or non-result in this case) so typically where I administered projects (in the US) if the bid can not be awarded within the predetermined time period (time period set by size, complexity, and character of project) then the offer to bid is automatically recalled and a review process automaticaly starts in order to see what the problem is.....here the problem might be some political problem or some corruption problem (or a problem with a lack of corruption)...or who knows what?...I don't know...in fact I don't even know if the bidding has gone on beyond its expected time frame.

I'm not trying to take sides here....I'm trying to give people an idea about why projects should be delayed in some cases....I'm trying to help people understand better how administering large gov't projects actually works.....for all I know Samak is the devil himself and is plotting the doom of civilization as we know it....or he is Gabriel's right hand man at the pearly gates handing out get out of he77 free cards....I don't know ....my post has nothing to do with politics...it is a non issue politically...this is how administering large gov't projects works in my experience.

  12. I'm an organic farmer and I know the importance of insects as member of the ecosystem...but....the primary work of the farmer (whether organic or not) is to alter the environment so that it favors their crops over animals and other plants. I do kill insects and rodents too. I avoid it as much as possible but if they pose a problem then I take action. For instance...I don't go out and kill every insect I see even if it is a "bad" one. No need to kill them all since having a few around attracts the natural predators which keep them in check. Rodents eat a portion of some of my crops...I allow for this to a degree but if the population gets out of hand and takes too large a share then I put out poison. When taking action to kill insects and rodents I often pause to think about what I am doing, to give a respectful thought to the animals I am killing, and to think of my own mortality....and allow that if I should be dealt with in the same way then that is only appropriate and fair.

  13. he got his diplomatic passport back already - on which grounds?

The arguement they used to justify giving him back the diplomatic passport is that all the ex-primeministers are allowed to keep them and he should be treated equally. Those against this move argued that he was charged with a crime so his case was exceptional and so it is just that he not have the diplomatic passport while those in favor of the move countered that he has not been found guilty and should be considered innocent until guilty according to Thail law....to this those against reinstating the diplomatic passport said that there is a warrant out for his arrest for not showing up to trial so denial of diplomatic passport is justified and to this arguement those in favor of giving it back countered that death threats were made against him and public security officials publicly stated that they could not be held responsible to protect him adequately if he did return so clearly he was not free to return for fear of his life......

I'm not expressing an opinion here....just trying to answer the questions "on which grounds".

  14. There's no time for that. Projects currently in the pipeline have been through all of this already, for four years

Projects whose plans and specifications were ready four years ago but not implemented need to go through a re-vetting of all documents and a rethink.....the larger the project the more important this becomes. The economy (both local and international) has changed appreciably in the last four years as have many other things so it is standard operating procedure (and in some cases in other countries mandated by law) that if a project is delayed by a significant amount of time that it should go through an examination and reconfirmation of its acceptability. This would take some time for large projects (6 months perhaps) and depending on how complicated the project is and how many difficulties are encountered it can stretch out to quite some length of time until in some instance it is decided that things have changed so much that the best approach is to scrap the old plans and draft new ones.

I am not trying to say that Samak won't stall for some reason...I'm only pointing out that a re-evaluation of delayed projects is pretty much standard for engineered public works projects.

    Chownah

P.S. I might add that if a delayed project is not re-evaluated and is implemented straight away then any place in the construction where there is a "changed condition" encountered there will be the need to negotiate a change in the contract as the work contues and these "change work orders" and "contract addeneums" have traditionally been a place where corruption is rampant because these sorts of negotiations tend to occur in construction offices and in pickup trucks where noone but the two conspirators are around so its really easy for them to make sweet deals and plot their tactics.

To the best of my knowledge the roots of eucalyptus do not provide fertility...there are trees that do this to some degree but I have never heard it claimed that eucalyptus does this...I think this statement is wrong....unless this new breed is a GMO.

  16. I was not aware that you not only come across as a supporter of this present band of undesirables, but by your above observation / comment, are seemingly coming across as a member of ( This Government ) of whom i am clearly aiming my remarks to.

It is my belief that anyone who thinks that I support the present gov't has not read my posts carefully enough and is assuming things which I have not written. An example of this is my reaction to the opinion article.....I would have commented in much the same way if this had been an opinion supporting the gov't....people who support this gov't are just as likely to create an opinion article of much the same flavor as the one you asked me to comment on. I think that a careful reading will show that my comments did not address the political position of the author but rather they addressed the way the article was constructed and organized...and I stand by my final comments 100% which is that in an opinion article it is important that the reader should work to seperate the facts from the opinions.....and my view is that this goes for any opinion written from any political perspective.

Also, you are mistaken in thinking that the post under discussion contains anything which I took personally....if you think I am wrong I invite you to send me a PM to explain how my post indicated that I took a comment of yours from that post personally.....but really I think we are off topic and should only continue this discussion by PM.

  17. The photo is interesting....what does it mean. The fact that Samak stood next to someone at some time in the past has really no significance in itself at all. I'm sure that Abhisit has stood next to Toxin....etc. etc....should we make a list of everyone who has at any time stood next to the mentioned personage...and assume some kind of guilt for them too? It would be interesting to know more about this photo. Until there is more information about the photo then it establishes nothing. It is a matter of inuendo (perhaps) that journalists say that "Samak becomes pale when shown his picture taken with Prapass"....it implies some kind of guilt or else why would he turn pale?....the journalists were looking for any sign of guilt on Samak's part so they very well may have interpreted a look of bepuzzlement or innocent surprise as a paling of the face...or maybe they fabricated it entirely as a way to create the inuendo...I really don't know if he paled or not or whether he paled from indegestion or simply poor health and standing for too long on a hot day.....I do know that many journalists are constantly grinding an ax for Samak.....I don't really know for sure if this photo has any meaning or not now because there is no information about why, where, or when it was taken........on the other hand the simple comment has created a "guilty Samak" in the minds of many who read it.

This picture with unknown meaning has stirred the emotions here most definitely.

I,d like to know what you think about the present governments performance since coming to power instead of your continual mischief making on the threads, relating to covering many of the self rewarding actions they have taken, against the wishes of the majority of voters of the last election.

    Marshbags,

You presented a news excerpt and then commented, "How certain posters seemingly think this is good for democracy and more importantly for Thailand and it,s citizens, apart from the chosen few, is beyong comprehension"......so......I offered to help you to comprehend how certain posters might seem to think that way....but you do not specifically refer to which things in the excerpt which you presented....I like to try to keep some kind of continuity in the thread so let's clear this up first. Is there some topic in the news article you presented about which certain posters seem to think is good....and this is beyond comprehension?...if so then please tell me what it is...if not just say so and the issue will be closed.

I am surprised and flattered that you are asking my opinions on the present gov't's performance....especially surprised since you describe my posts as being mischief....it is not beyond comprehension why you would describe my posting that way and I take it as an indication that at least some of my ideas are sound and well presented. Do you want to hear my views on this issue so that if I don't agree with you then we will argue? This sort of thing happens only too often here and I really would like to avoid arguements. This post of yours to which I am replying has some elements which seem to be begging for an arguement....emotional terms with pejorative implications like "do not give a <deleted>"....this sort of rhetoric makes me think you want to argue with me. Maybe I am wrong.

You think my interests are dedicated to some region or political party? At first I laughed out loud when I read this (chuckled actually).....then upon reflection a more serious thought came to mind....it seems to me that you really have either not carefully read and thought about what I have been posting all along or you are so overwhelmed by your emotional response to politics in Thailand that you are unable to understand what I am saying clearly.

As to the article....it is clearly an opinion...the author is giving a personal opinion. It is not so much more clever or more insightful than many many similar opinions which one can find. Preconceived notions are peppered throughout which is not bothersome but it seems (just like in many of these expressions of opinion) that the author is totallly unaware of these preconceived notions which shape the presentation...and then to these preconceived notions the author adds assumptions about future actions which result in dire predictions.....and all of this is mostly constructed from a factless base. Again....I find the presentation of opinions to be a valid journalistic endeavor but it is of primary importance that the reader always remember that it is opinion and not fact...or it is fact with opinion...but the reader must untangle the two....sometimes people forget to do this...they forget to disentangle the facts from the opinions.
